Michigan
Complaint:
For the past 2 years I've made the payment on the same day of the month
(Quicken). I haven't missed a payment in over 3 years (when I lost my
job).
A couple of days ago I got a phone call, on the day when my payment normally
arrives, demanding immediate payment (claimed they had my checking account
info to make it easier). They claimed I was 2 days late (Sunday???) and
therefore the card was suspended, a late fee of $35 was charged, my interest
rates jacked, etc.
Worse than the collections agent (who actually apologized for having to
follow his script) the Customer Service Rep (in India) was more demanding
and even nastier.
Fortunately, I had enough cash to pay it off. The check clears tomorrow and
I'm outta there.
Their problem is the same as Providian - they are being pressured to dump
"substandard" credit card debt, and the best way they can do it (in their
minds) is to be nasty to the customer. Don't believe me?
