RE:  Misrepresentation of Cash Advance Service by MBNA Bank

DON'T REQUEST CASH ADVANCES FROM MBNA BANK!!!

I find it highly unethical and despicable that MBNA dareS to offer its clients alleged cost-free and finance-free cash advances and neglects to tell them that if they continue to use their card, their payments will be applied to the cash advance balance and not to subsequent purchases even if you pay thousands of dollars a month and more than the minimum payment.

Before I took the advance over the phone I was assured  by two different representatives that as long as I paid the minimum balance each month, and missed no payments or made no late payments, no finance charges would be assessed against the cash advance balance.  I asked the representative this question several times and she assured me this was the case.  Now I realize that the finance charges you have been assessing against my account are being applied to an ever increasing "subject to finance charge" balance, contrary to what was represented to me twice by two different representatives.

MBNA'S practices are despicable.  They will get theirs. Remember Enron?  The bigger they are, the harder they fall!

Have account with MBNA.  Has never been late and always paid required amount.  Intrest rate jumped 12%!!!.  Contacted MBNA they stated I was being penalized for making only required payments.  MBNA will allow you to charge and if you have good payment record they jump up the rate to get more finance charges from the good customers.   Then the person on the phone had the nerve to ask if I wanted more credit with them and a loan to pay off the card.. UNBELIVABLE...

MBNA beware all. . they are out to stick to the good customer... Terrible company

Complaint:   If you take the offer of a Platinum Visa/Bass Pro card tell 'em to stuff their free rewards promotions.  Got a box containing 7 "free" DVD's (weighing between 1# and 2#'s total) then roughly 2 weeks later, while checking my account online, I noticed the S/H charges of damn near $70. for that one package.  MBNA response: Didn't read the fine print eh sucker...sorry, but pay up.  My comeback: Hey, lesson learned, send me my "final" invoice....adios banditos!!!  Where's the FTC when you need them?  Ripped off by the "system" at both ends.

MNBA:
I recently reopened an account with this lousy company, my first mistake.  I used this card for one month and used it several times for cash advances.  After I received the first statement, received a form letter stating that my acct. was now "under review" and that I should phone them.  I did, and on the other end, was the most interesting representative of MNBA or any company that I have ever encountered.  First, I was penalized for making only the minimum payment, then she informed me that I should be paying more and why did I continue to have other dept store cards that I had only made the minimums on!  She continued to use information on me that shouldn't have been known - let alone had nothing to do with this company - and, was only my business.  She harrassed me until I was in tears and I hung up on her.  I called back the toll number and she had lowered my credit limit one-half!  I was so upset that I called and asked for "Billies" supervisor and actually talked with the supvr.  After I recited my "rights" - she reinstated my credit line.  My advise to all -- watch MNBA or any of the other listed bad credit card companies.  They are training their "pinheads" employees to be nasty to all who sign up!  I intend to close this account asap!

Complaint: MBNA raised the rate on my card from 7.9 % to 17.9%. There was never any late payments and always made extra payments. They said my credit report justified the rate raise but my crediot score had actually improved form the time I originally got the card. What a scam. They didn't even notify me of a rate change. I used the original rate to transfer high balances and now stuck with their high balances. WATCH OUT FOR MBNA

Complaint: MBNA is the worst credit company I have ever dealt with.  I took out a 5 year loan on their gold account and was told my interest would be 9.99% for the full five years.  You can imagine my disgust when I opened this months bill after paying on time and over the minimum and the interest jumped to 16.88%.  When I wrote them about it, they sent me back a nasty letter, saying they didn't like the way I handled my account.  What didn't they like?  That I was going to pay it off sooner and they'd get less interest off me.  SPENDER BEWARE, DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH MBNA.

Complaint:
On 4/2003 i opened a credit card account with MBNA at 7.90% and was given a credit limit of $10,000 all went well until 4/12/04 and they raised the interest to 17.98%. How ever i did not realize this until my 7/12/04 statment because i was over seas and had pre wrote checks out for my son to mail in each month while i was gone. When i rturned and looked at my 7/12/04 statement with a balance of $6,015 and found the interest changed i gave them a callon 7/19/04. I talked to Debbie and she said they sent me a insert in my Jan statement telling me of it witch i did not see or may have throwen out . She said she wanted to do a up date on my records and i gave her all the info and my income has not changed since i applied for the card. She also said in a review they did some time in Jan my credit report showed i had a lot of credit available and i should get a credit report to which ihave gotm and don'tsee that to be true. After the review she said they would offer me a 9.9%inte!
rest rate i accepted it and hung up.
After thinking about it over night i called MBNA again the next day and talked to Daniell and told her i could live with the 9.9% interest but they would have to adjust the last four months of interest that they charged me 17.98% she said she could not do it so I CLOSED MY ACCOUNT
Then on 7/22/04 i called MBNA and asked to talk with a supervisor and was put through to Christine I asked her to look at my records as i was not happy as how MBNA treats a good customer.
1. In 14 months they raised my credit limit to $11,700 ( I nver asked for it ) and 4700 of it after the letter they sent me increasing my interest rate because i had to much credit available.
2. I have ALWAYS made my payments on time and paid way overthe minimum.
3NEVER wet over my credit limit.
4 SEVEN times they said on my billing statements i only had to pay $15 minimum this month I IGNORED IT
She said the best she could do is take off $94.86 in interest and give me a 9.9% rate I told her NO THANKS and make sure my account i closed and i would send in a checkto pay off my account which i have done.
Then on 7/22 and 7/23 i recived NEW Promotional letters with three credit cards access checks each ( Total of 6 checks) to use at 3.99% i ask why would a bank do this after they think i am personwith to much credit available.
On 8/03 Tabitha called me and said she was from the presidents office of MBNA Bank amd wanted to go over my letter i sent to Better Business Bureau .She said MBNA was operating with in the law and i was a good customer and did not want to lose me She said if i lowered my balance they would offer me 9.9% I SAID NO and my account is CLOSED and the payoff is in the mail and i would do everthing i could do to inform the public of how MBNA treats a good customers.
Now on 8/03 after talking with Tabitha from the MBNA presidents office i received that afternoona new letter saying on the first day following your statment closing date in Sept. 2004 iwill have a vvariable APR which are higher than you current APRsand is now 19.99% ( this is NOT going to happen to me as i have closed my account and paid it off ) there NOT going to rip me off again.

Complaint: I have been a customer with MBNA for years.  I had a great interest rate of 5.9%  so I transferred balances from higher accounts to my account to lower my payments.  I was told through their company that the rate would not be changed unless I defaulted.  I never was late on a payment to date.  On August 18th, 2004, I called to find out my balance and to my surprise they increased my rate without notice to 19.99%, raising my payment from $84 to $254 a month, which I cannot afford.  I spoke with a supervisor and he told me that because I didn't respond to a flyer by July 21st stating I would not use my account anymore, the new rate would take effect.  This is a scam.  I never received a flyer, I check my statements carefully. They told me I was at risk because I haven't significantly paid down $14,000 in 6 months.  Well now, I am definitely at risk because of them raising my interest so drastically for no good reason.  I know they can changed it but they refuse and !
so now I am taking legal action.

  California MBNA Customer

Complaint: I have been an MBNA customer for 15 yrs.  After using their cards and paying timely they jumped my rate by 10%!!!!!  They said they alerted me to this fact by a "letter" of some sort that "I probably missed in my mail".  (They have even admitted they no longer alert custumers this way due to the fact that many people complained of missing it becuase they designed the "letter" to look like a junk mail offer).; they now alert you in your monthly pay coupon --- but IT STATES NOTHING TO THIS EFFECT ON THE COUPON ITSELF!!!!.  It says to look for an insert for important news.  They then hide it (in my opinion) among the 4 to 5 color mail inserts selling all sorts of stuff.  They make it VERY clear, however, on the coupon when the rate goes up (I am sure this is because it is federal law).  If they REALLY want to let us know of the potential 10% rate increase; wouldn't they put that wording on the coupon, where the customer looks???  They wait until this "letter's" expir!
ation date expires then jack up the rate.  When I called back upon seeing the 19.98% rate!!!!, I admitted to missing this "letter" and since I was a customer for 15 years; I who like the courtesy to "go back" 19 business days, before the "letter" expired and allow me to excerise rejecting the 19.98% (WHICH OF COURSE I WOULD HAVE DONE HAD I SEEN THE DAMN, HIDDEN NOTICE).  They have been giving me the "BS" since and I am waiting to talk too a higher level person.  SAVE YOURSELF SOME HEADACHE -- DONT' USE MBNA!!!!!

Complaint: About a year ago I acquired an MBNA credit card at 7.9% which I was very pleased with. After a year of use ,and at a moderate limit and regular payments, never a late payment, I noticed that my interests rate had increased to 19.98% I contacted MBNA and asked why the increase? I was told that I was not aggressive enough in reducing the balance. At times I would make larger payments even to the point of paying it all the way down. I pointed this out the representive but in made now difference. I stated that increasing the % was not a very good business practice in my opinion and that I would surely cancel my account if they insisted on imposing this penilty, they said that my account could be reviewed again after the balance was reduced. This in my opinion is outrageous and against the terms in which I orginally agreed to. I purposelly asked for a low limit to avoid any chance of over extending myself but MBNA chose to impose there own tactics to KEEP ME IN CHECK..!
I did in fact cancel my account but unfortunetly I am stuck with paying off the card at the high rate of 19.98%. Shame on you MBNA and good riddance...

Complaint:
MBNA Credit Card Company is ripping people off all over the state of Florida and probably the entire country. I have had an MBNA credit card since 2002. My intro APR was 2.90%. The APR which the agreement said was 8.99% afterwards. Everything was good for about a year and a half, I thought. I checked in the beginning of this year and my APR was 17.98%. I did not understand what had happened. I am very busy with work and had just bought a house so I had no chance to contact them. A few months later, my APR was raised once again to 21.98% without my knowledge. I then had had enough and called them and asked what is going on. They asked me a few questions to see if they could lower my APR and the lady came back on the phone and said they could not do anything about it. They said they had done a credit inquiry for me even before I had called and said I had other outstanding debt that led to the increase. But, here is where the lies start. I got my credit report and no!
such inquiries took place.  I had a fixed APR that should have stayed at my 8.99%. They changed it to a variable rate which I had not agreed to. My credit report shows no late payments ever and I even paid a week ahead of time sometimes. I didn't just pay the minimum payment either; sometimes it was double what the minimum payment was. My credit is also pretty good for a recent graduate and new homeowner. Recently I got another letter that they wanted to change my fixed APR to a variable which would go up once again to 24%. They keep raising it and raising it.
The same exact thing has happened to my mother. She had around 3 - 4% APR, never late and paid more then minimum payments.  MBNA raised her APR to 17% for no reason whatsoever. She cannot even afford to pay for groceries most of the time. She is sick to her stomach. Now with this payment, she is in trouble.  I am sure 1,000's and 10,000s of people have had the same problem. Please contact me if this has happened to you with MBNA. I have contacted my state rep, the governor, senators, newspapers, and TV.

For the Love of God, stay away from MBNA.  They offered me a loan @ 9.99% interest for 5 years, nine months into the loan, they reneged and upped my interest to 16.88%

I was also foolish enough to have a platinum credit card from them.  I paid my bill via web on the day it was due and they charged me a $30 late fee.  When I wrote them and complained, they wrote me back saying the charges were valid.  My bill was due on the 12th, if I had sent them a check that landed on their desk on the 12th I wouldn't have gotten a late charge.  What is the difference if I pay via web on the due date or via snail mail.

I have taken out a home equity and paid those thieves off.  I have contacted the FTC, carbon copied MBNA, now they are calling me begging to speak to me.  NO WAY!!!

Complaint: MBNA bank just sent me a notice telling me that they have changed our agreement and now they will determine my payment due date every month.  This means it could be as soon as 20 days after the past bill and as much as 45 days.  This means if you use a bill pay service you can get screwed.  Also if you plan your bill around your paycheck you can also get screwed.  This is the most disgusting practice I have ever come across.  This is nothing more than a scam to get more late fee from customers.

Complaint: had an account with MBNA. the APR i had was 7.99%, which wasn't bad at all. so i trasferred some other balance into this account and had paid on time. not even one late payment with this account and other credit card account as well. but about a year later MBNA raised my APR to nearly 20%. i of course called them and the funny thing was---the rep gave me a lecture about the difference between having a long term loan and a credit card balance which supposed to be paid in full every month. the rep told me that i handled this MBNA account like long term loan so they were raising my APR!! i had balance kept in there because as everyone else would think it offered a good APR!! i was a good customer of MBNA without any late payment. i wonder if anyone with one late payment with this company,,hmm,,they will rip you off..STAY OUT OF THIS COMPANY. AND LET US NOT DO CREDIT CARD DEBTS FOLKS AND GOOD LUCK ON BECOMING CREDIT CARD DEBT FREE!!

10/16/04 I just found this website, and I am very sad I didn't learn of it earlier.  My Complaint too is with MBNA bank.  This unethical bunch of weasels have done me the same thing as other customers.  I have never paid late, always paid minimums and more on two of their cards.  We got suckered in on low interest offers on transfer balances and when that expired our rate on the MBNA cards were very low.  I got a notice that our cards interest rate jumped up to a criminal 24.9% rate.  I thought I was a victim of identity fraud.  I paid for a full credit report from Equifax and my credit was totally clean and never paid late on any lendor or credit card revolving company during the full history on file! I will absolutely tell everyone that I meet about this desperate bank and how they fraud the customer.  I own a small business and personally handle all credit card transactions for my customers!  That is a lot of folks I will pass the word on about this company.

Complaint:
I have many years of on-time payments to a MBNA credit card on which, regretfully, I have a balance of approximately $23,000. About four months ago I was two days late on a payment, and the company increased the APR to 19.99%. I attempted to negotiate with MBNA twice since then. The first time I spoke with "Brian" (he would not disclose his last name) who said if I agreed to transfer a balance he would return my rate to the promotional 4.7%.  I transferred an additional $6,000 balance to MBNA, but the rate has remained at 19.99%.  Subsequent efforts to negotiate with MBNA have been fruitless. I was told over the phone by two of its agents my debt to income ratio is "higher than MBNA likes to see" so they refused to lower the interest rate at all.  I believe the company representative "Brian" flat-out lied to me over the phone, and because I transferred another credit card balance to MBNA, it is now collecting almost $400 per month in interest charges alone from me. I feel I!
was purposely misled over the phone, and believe it is all but extortion to suddenly charge me with such a high interest rate after an otherwise impeccable history of on-time payments. I might as well be doing business with the Mafia!

On a positive note, I have held a USAA Master Card for over fifteen years. This is one company you can count on for honest, fair business practices. I hope all honest American consumers will reward companies like USAA while forcing those like MBNA out of business... permanently.

Sure do appreciate the sounding board here.

Respectfully submitted,

Complaint: I have have had a credit card with MBNA since 1985.  I have a balance of $2335.49 on that credit card.  I have been making payments faithfully.  I have a minimum payment of $51.00 and I have been making payments of $100.00, $200.00 and $300.00 a month.  However, last month, suddenly my interest rate soared from 11% to 19.98%.  I called and complained to MBNA and their response was that they audited me and have since decided that I am a "high risk."  I would like to know what kind of "high risk" I could possibly be since I only have one credit card and that is with them and that has been paid, on time, every month.  During that phone call they agreed to lower the interest back to 11% but this month, I just received another bill from them and this one has the annual percentage rate at 19.98 again.  AGAIN!!

Complaint: MBNA / AAA    I was offered an MBNA card with AAA 'Diamond Rewards', a 5% gas purchase rebate and a fixed 7.9$ APR.  Within a year all were changed, and not for the better.  The 'Diamond Rewards' program and gas rebate were degraded severely though still nominally in effect.  The APR was changed to a significantly higher variable rate.  I will pay this off and never do business with MBNA again.  Shame on AAA for associating their once good name with these scoundrels.

2nd Complaint:
Update to the complaint below that I entered a couple months ago......
I called MBNA and explained that I can understand the gas rebate going away and accept the AAA 'Diamond Rewards' also going away, but the interest rate jump was unacceptable - this was no longer the card I'd signed up for.  To their credit, MBNA reduced my APR to fixed 8.5%.  I had transferred other  balances to this card, so I will accept this, pay it off and close the account.  MBNA were very agreeable and cooperative on the phone.

Complaint:

My AAA (auto club) visa through mbna is a scam that need to be shared. I have several cards and only a couple that are honorable and ethical in there dealings. The AAA card through mbna is not one of them. They enticed me with a promise of 5% rebate on gas purchases, then after I got the card recinded that offer. Now it is up to 5% rebate on gas purchases. They have hiked the interest rate to 15% form the teaser rate they use to suck you in with. The way the scam works is they entice you you with convenience checks, low rates rebates then when you start to use them they say you arn't pay it back fast enough (even if you double and triple you payments. Its a scam, don't be a fool and do business with credit card companies like mbna. I also will be changing insurance companies because they allowed these crooks to use the AAA name in soliciting my business. Bank one(Formerly First USA)is another one of these credit card ripoffs. Take my advise avoid them like the plague, the w!
ill steal from you and strive to get you into a position where you can only make payments on their exhorbate interest rate, while never gain on the pricipal debt.

Complaint: MBNA punishes good customers.  After having a world points card at a fixed 5.9% for two years, I received an "amendmemt" to my card agreement stating that my rate would be going up to 15.99% variable.  I've never been late on a payment, and routinely pay about 10-15 times the minimum payment.  I called and the rep and she said that there really was nothing wrong with my history, but all she could do was offer me a 7.99% variable rate.  UNACCEPTABLE!!  I've since rejected the changes in writing and cut up the card.

Complaint:
I have excellent credit. My credit score is in the mid 700's. In October of 2005, MBNA raised my interest rate without notice and in violation of my contract with them.
My contract clearly states 8.9% fixed, no if's and's or but's!
(I have never made a late payment to them, or any other person I have do business with.) I called and confronted them about the rate increase. After  a lengthy argument, they agreed to change the rate back to 8.9%....But not before putting me through an extensive tit for tat about some "notice" they allegedly sent out, informing me of the change and my options to protest. They also went on about some "deadline" I failed to meet, regarding the "alleged" notice. At one point in the conversation, they said  " We reserve the right to change our contract with you at any time" Then proceeded to offer me a new "contract" at a higher fixed rate.
I of course declined.

Complaint:
On March 17, 2005 I called MBNA to inquire about a credit line increase. I have received several automatic increases over the last two years and I know many companies have "secret" limits that do not require a new credit check.  I was not informed that they would check my credit report again (before they actually did so). Instead of simply denying a modest increase, they actually reduced my credit line by 22%.  And I was explicitly told there was absolutely no way on Earth to prevent it. I had not been informed that an unanticipated, unrequested reduction of the line was even a possibility. After the fact, I was told that if I had not talked to them, nothing would have happened.  I find their rambling "reasoning" and pseudo-parental attitude insulting.  I tried to find an email contact to write to the company, because I fear speaking to their reps or snailmail may result in further punishment, but they have none.  The message is clear: Don't risk talking to MBNA (!
unless they've already screwed you and you have no choice).  Close your account with MBNA and don't let anyone you know deal with them!

Good day Folks,

I am a former employee of MBNA.  I worked 8 years with MBNA in various Mid Atlantic offices.  Before leaving the company I was most recently a Credit Analyst, making the decisions of approve or decline, credit limits, and yes, forwarding accounts for 'Risk" review.  On more than one occasion I could not sleep at night knowing what I did on a daily basis was 'just not right'.
You probably are aware of their practices, all legal though seemingly unjust, but if you've any questions I would consider a response.

Complaint: Like so many others, I had a MBNA WorldPoints credit card with a 5.9% fixed interest rate and a high credit limit. I used the card for home improvements and also opened up so other "same-as-cash" accounts to purchase other things for my home. Suddenly, without notice, they raised my interest rate to 16.45%. My monthly payment jumped from $90 a month to over $250!! When I called they said I had to much revolving credit and they were raising my interest rate. I have never been late on a payment and always paid more than the minimum. They say everything they did was within their rights and I was notified of the increase, however I never saw any notification.  Stay away, there are no ethics at MBNA!

Complaint: I was contacted by MBNA over the telephone two years ago offering me a loan at 7.7% interest.  I was told that this rate would stay the same over the five-year term of the loan.  I stupidly believed the jerk on the other end of the line.  Now my rate has increased to 17.98% as of March 2005.  I phoned MBNA on 3-30-5 and was curtly and rudely told that I was informed in my January 2005 statement about this increase.  I checked my records and found nothing about an increase!!!!  Just when you begin to lower your balance, they spring new charges on you and raise your rates!!!!

Complaint:
I had an LL Bean Mastercard through MBNA for several years.  Even though I had an excellent payment history, they raised my rate to 16.45%.
I immediately called and they told me it was an across-the-board increase that was going to thousands of customers, although they could offer no reason why. I cancelled the card that day, and the next thing my rate was raised to 17.24% If you have a credit card with these people, make sure you check you statements every month, especially the interest rate!!!! Better yet, if you have a card, cancel it and transfer the balance to a company that offers lower interest rates.  I will never do business with these people again.

Complaint: I would like to add my experince to the already posted complaints. I to have been duped by MBNA who issued the card through AAA. I transferred balances for the 5.9%. After a year of making very large overpayments I noticed yesterday that they had increased my interest to 17.9%. I called and was handed over to a supposedly higher up who stated my financial picture had changed and they would consider negotiating a different intrest rate. I asked what had changed and that my overpayments were automatically paid by Bill Pay electronically twnty days early for the last year. She ignored my information and again offered to see about a different rate. I told her to forget about it and ask her how she can sleep at night. I am fortunate enough to have the funds to pay them off but how can someone on a limited budget absorb such a hit.

Complaint:
I've had multiple problems with MBNA.  Among other things - unlike other credit card companies - their 0% APR offers are basically a "bait and switch."  The service reps (when you can get a live person) are almost always rude and patronizing as well as highly resistant to providing escalation points or information.   The web site is poorly designed and doesn't tell you that payments won't be posted for two days.  And so on.   MBNA's customer service process is a prime example of "service avoidance." It's virtually impossible to talk to anyone willing (or able) to resolve a problem.

You can, however, with a bit of Internet research, find the home addresses and phone numbers of most if not all the senior MBNA executives.  You can also call the president's office at 800-441-7048.  However, I am not encouraging you to harass anyone at home. Just info for last resort, particularly since MBNA could ruin your credit even if when you're not at fault.

I also encourage you to not just give up and pay balances and charges you don't owe - you can almost always ultimately win if you document your efforts.  Don't just vent - document, know your rights and persevere.

I've had great service and support from Discover card.  I highly recommend you switch.

Complaint:
We have just had the same experience many others have discribed here.  Our most recent statement from MBNA showed a 10% rate increase to almost 26%.  The increase was applied to our existing balance of more than $20,000 so our payment went up almost $250.  We were sure it was a mistake and called them.  They said it was no mistake.  We spoke to several different representatives and were given a different reason by each.  All the reasons were not true.  My wife is an account and pays all our bills early.  We had always paid more than the minimum.  We just got a credit history because we were going to apply for a car loan and it showed no late payments to anybody.  We do have a high debt to income ratio, which is why we had such a high initial interest rate before the increase.  We think the increase was triggered by our shopping for the best loan.  We had three credit checks done within a week by the three companies we were comparing.

As it stands, we are stuck with the new rate.  They offered to "negotiate" a new, possibly better rate but we declined because we didn't think they can get away with changing our contract like that and feared agreeing to an increase of any kind before we gave up on getting our original terms restored.  Like others, we are positive we got no notification of any kind enclosed with our statement.  This week we just had the same experience with our other credit card.  It went up 7%.

Apparantly what one of MBNA's reps said is true: "we can do anything we want to".  There's no limit on interest rates in Delaware where they are based and recent court decisions say you have to follow the law of the state where they are, not where you live.  It's obvious they didn't give Fair Disclosure initially.  Who would agree to a contract where the rate on your past purchases could be raised any amount for secret reasons, you have 15 days to close the account or accept the rate and the notification can be hidden anywhere they like?

These banks that are showing record profits again this year have bought themselves a new bankruptcy law with their campaign contributions. This new law is going to trap most people who get in over their heads into 5 years of court administered payment plans leaving them with no more than $100 per month over essential expenses.  They're pushing very hard to peddle the cards to college kids - our 19 year daughter gets 2-3 offers every week.  I've complained to the Federal Reserve but don't expect any action.  Lawsuits against these giants will take years.  It's a disaster in the making.  What a shame.

I usually pay my credit card monthly without looking at the interest rate. When I opened my May 2005 statement I noticed that my interst rate on old purchases was 13.74%. I then found a statement from July 2004 and noticed my interest rate was 9.99%.  I tried calling the number on my statement and credit card 1.800.896-3698 and kept getting the electronic run around without being able to speak to a live person about the reason they raised my rate 3.75%. I then called the item dispute number 1.866.266-0212 and after the electronic "push this number" index. I finally connected to a real person who sent me to another real person. When I told the person Jim about the 3.75% increase, he told me they did that back in September of 2004 and that is what they do. He started asking me questions like I was applying for credit again. I then questioned why he needed that information and he stated that is how they determine my credit. I told him I have excellent credit have never missed !
a payment in over 10 years and never had any credit problem. Then he told me that the federal regulators came in and audited MBNA books and told them they needed to raise my interest with a bunch of other card holders. I told him that makes no sense for the federal regulators to tell a private company to raise the rates on past accounts so they can make more money, especially when I have an excellent credit rating. Jim then put me on hold for a few minutes and came back stating we can lower your rate to 11.1% and that is the best we can do. I asked him if it would go back to my Sept 2004. Jim from MBNA stated no it starts next month, no rebates.
My complaint is can MBNA just raise my rates?

Complaint:
They unfaily raised my interest rate form 9.99% to 19.00% at first.  They said it was because I had to much unsecured debt.  I WAS NEVER LATE WITH THEM, ALWAYS PAID ONTIME.  I then got a home equity loan and paid off over $20,000 in credit card debt.  I then told them I lowered my unsecured debt and asked them to lower my interest rate.  Instead of lowering it they raised it to 23%.  I asked them why they said it was because I owed them to much.  I told them with owing them over $23.000 and that high of an interest rate I would never be able to pay them off.  Could they lower the rate so I can get them paid off.  No they didn't they raised it again to 23.24%.  My credit is in the good range.  ALways pay my bills ontime.  I started paying them $100 extra for a few months.  My reward for paying extra was raising my rate again to 23.74%.  I recently sent them a payment of $3500.00 bring the balance now below $20,000.  I won't ask them to lower the rate again they might raise i!
t.  MBNA is unfail and because of them I am having a hard time affording buying my baby food and paying for childcare.  They don't care about noone but themselves.  They even LIE to you.  They told me if I paid the bill as soon as it comes in I would save on interest.  One month I paid it 2 days before due date, the next I paid it 13 days earlier and the interest I paid was the same.  I didn't save any interest.  They lied.  I don't have any way to get the money to pay them off.  I WOULD LIKE TO TELL EVERYONE NOT USE MBNA.  GO WITH SOME OTHER COMPANY.  I can't get a home equity loan.  If anyone has has any suggestions about what to do.  Contact me via email at littleprettykitten@yahoo.com

Complaint_against: MBNA Credit Card

Folks,

I've read through every complaint on this board.  I won't bore you with my story but ditto on the lame excuses to increase APRs, unethical card consolidation practices, ambiguous "notifications" of increases and total lack of accountability on MBNA's part.

This sums up MBNA practices:  If you use the card, gotchya.  If you don't use the card, gotchya.  If you attempt to apply for a mortgage or refinance your current one, gotchya.  If you paid a bill 2 days late 5 years ago on an unrelated account, gotchya.  If you're fool enough to not move your card to another lower rate competitor, gotchya.

Do some research on how much money MBNA donated to the last presidential campaign and the 2004 Super Bowl ad; that's where they're using OUR hard-earned money.

I've tried the Better Business Bureau with little luck.  I've also read we can complain to our Congressmen or the Federal Trade Commission.  BUT THESE AGENGIES ARE NOT THE ANSWER.  YOU, the American consumer, have the the ability to say NO to that big screen TV and shopping spree.  Stop letting the media shove this materialistic culture down your throat.  Stop living beyond your means.

I'm not saying don't carry a credit card.  By all means, 2 cards is the magic number according to my loan officer.  Keep the credit limit low.  Never use more than 30% of it.  Prevent credit report inquiries.  Pay over the minimum and before the due date.  Never, ever be an hour late on any bill. Sound impossible?  EXACTLY MY POINT.

I paid off my MBNA card with a home equity loan and closed the account.  I consider myself fortunate to walk away without filing for bankruptcy.  I will never take my finances for granted again.

Good luck to you all.  Thanks for giving me this forum to vent and inform.

Complaint: I have read over many of the complaints already posted to this site against MBNA and I have experienced almost every single situation. First, I too have been granted extended credit limits without my request and all that it did was negatively affect my credit rating as credit available builds to excess of resources. Secondly, they sent a notice that my APR was being raised from an original 9.9% to a whopping 24.5%! I followed their protocol and write to reject the change. Guess what I got -- 19.74%! I, too, have been a long-time customer and sucker that I am, actually have two cards from them. The last straw came today. My billing cycle runs from the 13-12 of the month and due dates are on the 8th. On my April bill I was charged an overlimit fee of $49 for having a balance $60 in excess of my limit. I made my payment (triple the minimum) to ensure that I took care of the excess balance, the overlimit fee, newly posted interest, and the month's minimum due. My paym!
ent posted to my MBNA account on the 4th. Today I recieved by May bill and lo and behold there was another $49 overlimit fee charge! The truly cynical thing is that for the fee, the transaction date was 5/3, but the posting date 5/12. I called MBNA to complain and the representative said that there was a small disclaimer on the bottom of my April bill saying that they needed my payment within 20 days of closing to avoid another overlimit fee. What a crock of @#$%! I don't even typically receive my statements until 8-10 days after the end of the billing cycle. There was no reasoning with this lady. I told her to close my account and as far as I am concerned, this company is completely corrupt!

Complaint: I owed about 13,000$ and paid over #3000 to collection agency but after the colletion agency transfered my debts to another collector, the balance remain the same.  I think the moneys I paid the the collection agency are stolen by the agency and that makes me not to trust any collection agency and I will not pay to any agency other than the creditor itself.   Anyone have this issue?

Complaint: I have never sent in a late payment, and yes I was for a year not sending in more then minimum, at times a little more then the minimum, but never late, they raised the percentage rate to 23.65, thats loan shark rates. I called them for a lowering of the percent rate and they said no way. I was able to transfer my balance to another credit card at a reasonable rate. STAY AWAY from MBNA.

Complaint: Warning! MBNA are thieves! I originally took the card with a low teaser rate which went to 7%. After a year and a half ,(never a late payment and often paid more than the minimum), I paid my balance in full($5500). Next statement I noticed they had raised my rate to 28%! (4x the previous rate). I immediately called and asked for a explanation and was told I was under "review". I then closed the account as I will not pay usary rates and sent them a check for the balance. They then  refused to honor the 6000 "World Points" I had accumulated as my account was "closed". Of course,  soon after a bill arrived for $17 worth of interest, apparently that part of account was still open. How greedy are they?

Complaint: I got the AAA credit card because it gave a discount off my gasoline purchases. For the first time in three years, I missed a payment deadline (I mailed it June 9 - it was due on June 10). MBNA charged me a $39.00 late fee. The amount of money I have saved with the gas rebate is about $7.00 a month. This late fee has wiped out about half the rebate savings for the year. I will never use it again - instead I am going to use my American Express card.

I was lured into balance transferring $16,000 to my MBNA card for approximately 6 months of zero interest.  I was blindsided by a $480 service fee for this transfer--then shocked beyond belief when my offer expired and they began charging my an annual interest rate of 24.24%!!!

I have an excellent credit rating, and with interest rates still at historical lows--this completely unethical.

Tear up your MBNA offers and cancel your cards.

Complaint: I want to warn others about a new scam.  This is for people who try to pay off their credit cards every time which I usually do.  One recent month, I was late paying it off and expected to pay the late fees for the month and did. However, they had written one of their "hidden notes" to say that not only have they the  right to charge you late fees on the part that was late but also on the amount that you charge the next month. I was totally shocked with those tactics.  I was going to cancel my card but they waived the late fees for the second month. I still carry the card but am very wary of using it.

Complaint:
I used my MBNA card when in Europe.  When I returned, they had a 3% surcharge on each credit card charge in Europe. I challenged them and sent them a table that they had sent me when I had signed up for the card which was a "summary of charges" that did not mention such a surcharge.

I also produced a document sent to me by them while I was in Europe which claimed a right to charge a 1% surcharge.

I sent it to them.  They refuse to listen and just keep repeating: we charge 3%, you were notified, and you have no recourse.

I spoke to a manager who told me that the other credit card companies hide the 3% in a different exchange rate.  Since I had charged money on several cards that same day in Europe I compared exchange rates between the MBNA Fidelity visa, a mastercard by Wachovia, and an Amex. Identical rates.

MBNA was just plain making it up and lying.

My latest letter from them, from Individualized BankCard Services, just repeats the same BS.

Complaint:
I am an EX-customer of MBNA.  I was with them for over 10 years.  During this time, they jacked up my interest rates 3 times for no apparent reason other than that they just want more money from you.  I could have either turned down the rate hike and not used the card again or use the card at the "new" rate, which is always higher than the previous one.  I turned the offer down and kept my old rate and closed the account.  When I called to get my rate decreased from 19.9%, the would not do so.  They offered to increase my credit limit instead.  I told them to just close the account and I'll transfer the balance somewhere else, so now instead of getting 19.9% or less, they are getting nothing.
But I guess I should thank MBNA because of the education they forced on me to take better hold of my finances.  You see folks, if you look at their financial statements, you will see that MBNA brings in over 75 MILLION in interest in 3 months time!  Thats just interest alone, people!  I knew that over $10,000 of that large amount was money that I personally paid to them, and then I get to watch it being squandered on Super Bowl ads, large needless "corporate" events, and excessive advertisments, etc..  That was enough to make me mad...But not at them, I was mad at myself for allowing that to happen with my money.  And check this out, MBNA had been paying their investors over 20% year after year according to their annual financial reports.  Thats the same amount of interested I was paying to them!  So I decided right then and there to pay off the debt, and then buy shares of stock in the company, when it was at a good price, and now they pay me 20% interest. Thats how it has!
to happen to flip the tables on them.  Stop being a loaner and become an owner. Because of this episode with them, I have become much stronger financially than ever before and will never again place myself in such situations.

Complaint:
I closed my Master Card account with MBNA in March 2003 the balance was $23,000 USD. I paid by auto pay where the payment came out from my checking account automatically each month. $300 was paid automatically each month for 30-months a total of $9000. In addition to the automatic payment, I made four payments two of $5,000 and two of $3,500 since the account have been closed in attempt to reduce the balance and pay off the account as soon as possible. In November 2004 while payments made by auto pay and I was never late in any payment in my history with the bank they increased my interest rate to 17.85%. When I called customer service and requested a lower interest rate they told they couldn't because the account was closed. When I asked why the interest rate was increased while the account was closed I was told that they had the right to increase the interest rate even if the account was closed.
MBNA claims that I still owe more than $10,000, but they told me they would accept a settlement of $5,000 to pay off the account. I don't understand if the balance was $23,000 when I closed the account and I made all these payments why I still owe more than $10,000? When I requested a written document to confirm the settlement agreement they failed to provide me with a written agreement to confirm that settlement.
MBNA is trying to destroy my life and my career. I borrowed the money to pay for my college education and my daughter education who is currently attending Purdue University.
I am harassed by phone calls and threatening letters. They call my work consistently and threaten me.
I had to borrow money from other banks with lower interest rates to make all these payments and MBNA balance was never paid off no matter how much I borrowed. It doesn't make sense.

I was called by MNBA with an offer of 5.99% (they say it "may have been" 7.99% but I would not have been interested in that rate) and no interest on balance transfers for 6 months.  After a month, I received the card and looked on the information sheet for the interest, but couldn't find it.  One month later I got the first bill, showing a 9.99% interest rate.  I called in and they said that for the "as low as" rate, you need a perfect credit score.  My credit score is excellent and I've always been able to get low rates on whatever I've applied for.  They could not review it, they could not offer any explanation, and they could not find the credit report that they had pulled.

I have other credit cards with a 9.99% rate with much higher credit limits, so I am sure that I would not have responded to this offer had there been any indication that the rate would nearly double.  In the month before I received the card, I did not receive any communication with the new rate, nor can I find it on the sheet that came with the card.

I don't know if this "perfect score" scenario is common, but MNBA needs to be more forthcoming in their sales pitches. And consumers should be told that there is very little chance you will be given the lowest rate.

Complaint: I went to the Consumer Credit Counseling because I was over my head in credit card debt.  To be able to inclued my MBNA balance I have to include all Visa/Mastercard cards.  One of the cards they insisted that I include with my Consumer Credit account is a Bank Of America Mastercard that belonged to my auntie (she died a year ago).  The card was issued to her but I could make purchases with it.  I have been paying off the balance.  They have been kind and are not charging me interest.  The account closed and not available to me.  I also have two Capital One accounts.  One open and one closed.  They also insist that I include these accounts as well.  In a nut shell I now will have no credit card account for emergencies.

I can't believe MBNA has done this to so many people. After reading all of the comments, I see that I'm not the first to go from 9.99% to 20.49% after six years of no late or missed payments. They said they sent me notice of this increase in January which I don't even believe.

I filed a complaint with the Federal Reserve Board today. MBNA couldn't even give me a reason specific to me. They listed general reasons like delinquent payments that didn't even apply to me or more overall debt than when I first opened the account. In the end they said we can lower it to 15.99%. That's still an increase from 9.99%. I told them to close the account.

What's up with them offering this one-time $15 reduced minimum payment? I ignored it and still sent 130.00.

MBNA offered cash advances at 0% interest for 6 months w/max $75. fee.
what actually happens is that they late mail statement (no postmark on envelope) then raise the interest rate when payment is recd late.  last statement took 8 days to arrive (this is per company who states that are mailed the day of end of period, if true was mailed on 3/6 arrived 3/14) if assume same 8 day return, then leaves 3 days to pay and put in mail or will be late again.  called compant and spoke to "tyler" re this and was met with "is there a reason you called today ?".  OBVIOUSLY THERE IS this appears to be nothing more than a clever scam by mbna to make sure that payments are late, by doing so interest jumps from 0% to 19.98%.  BEWARE OF THIS TRICK FROM THESE SLIMY OPERATORS !

I received a notice from MBNA offering a variable rate loan of prime plus 2%, current rate was 7.4%. I spoke to them in length, applied for the loan, was approved and used it to pay off higher interest rate loans (9.95% & 10.79%).

I just received my first statement and was absolutely shocked. I was not only charged $150 check processing fee for each check,,, I had a rate of 20.79%.

When I finally got to speak to a real person they tried to tell me that the rate really didn't matter since I could pay off their loan faster than I could my old loans because of the way their payments were calculated. Now, I'm not a rocket scientist but I am an accountant, and that is just plain old bull. According to them I am an exception to the norm since I don't normally make minimum payments so their program probably can't help me.

Now I've got a major problem. I closed loans at much lower rates and transferred them to this wonderful 20.79% loan. I am now off to my bank, to grovel and plead for help in getting some other type of loan in place.

I want MBNA paid off and out of my life forever. I also intend to cancel my business account, my husbands account and inform as many people as I can that MBNA is running some very dangerous scams. The kind that can really hurt peoples financial position.

I received a promotional letter from MBNA for an interest-free loan for one year.  Since I needed a loan for cataract surgery (not covered by my insurance) I telephoned to request a loan for $6000.  I asked the agent if there were any conditions that had not appeared on the promotional.  He answered NO.  When I received the first "Welcome letter" it showed the amount owed was $6180.  When I called again, I was informed that there was a "transfer fee" of 3% of the loan.

In other words, the actual interest was 3%, demanded in advance.

So much for "truth in advertising."  There's no one to complain to. You can't even yell at the person who set you up deceitfully.  The poor agent takes the hit, stoically. What I learned:  DON'T BELIEVE THE PROMOTIONALS.

Along with others who have posted their complaints, I too fall into the same categories. I got an MBNA card back in 1997 (8 years ago). I won't go into details of the account, but it started out with 4.9 or 5.9% apr.  I too paid all of my bills on time and paid every single month. I have kept all monthly bill receipts and checks proving what I paid and when.  I have every single bill which routinely showed a $29 late charge without fail whether the payment was on time or not. I have written dispute letters to MBNA so many times, I can almost rehearse them.  I have copies of everything.  MBNA's bloodhounds have, without fail, called my work number which is a federal government line despite repeated written and oral requests to stop calling since 2000.  Interest rates alone kept creeping up without all our consents, of course, to rates like mine from 5.9 to 22.98 thereby forcing the consumer to not be able to pay down balances, throwing accts into collections, arbitration, et!
c.  I took this account and one other and went with debt consolidation, and MBNA continued to willfully intimidate, harass, oppress, disgust me and the debt consolidation company; a third party. I was also referred to National Arbritration Forum and hired attorneys for MBNA to collect on judgment (I received a judgement on 4/24/06) requiring me to pay $13,000.  Since I work for judges, I am aware of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Federal Trade Commission, consumer law protection services, etc.  MBNA just doesn't get the point that many folks are as stupid, dumb and ignorant as they think.  Lots of folks do their homework in situations such as ours. Today, 5/1/06, I have sent MBNA a certified-return receipt letter demanding that they stop contacting me once and for all, restore my credit to $0 and remove all delinquent ratings from my credit report.  I have also sent a copy of this letter and all bills, supporting documentation to the following agencies.  I hope MBNA!
reads this posted material because I want the devil to know who I am. I want them to know that no weapon formed against me is going to prosper.  MBNA's business activities are illegal and we have been the victims of fraud, theft and identity theft; they're trying to take away our person, making us believe we are pure scum; that's typical behavior of real scum too.  I have contacted the following:  MBNA - this is your life down the toilet!

Delaware State Attorney General
Federal Trade Commission
Local television, newspapers in Winston Salem and Greensboro NC
Hired Attorneys for MBNA in Raleigh, NC

I am not filing a class action suit. MBNA has been out to get blood out of turnips.  Well, I truly believe, though, that all persons, great and small, who have been affected by MBNA and the National Arbitration Forum's willful illegal, fraudulent scams should show up on the doorstep of MBNA's doorstep and take the company by whatever force necessary.  DId you all know that the CEO of MBNA this year, 2006, will pocket your money to the tune of $125 million dollars in salary, stocks, bonds, securities?

Greetings all from the Land of 10,000 Lakes!

Just wanted to let everyone know I am no longer obligated to MBNA. I have read all the horror stories here

After I determined that MBNA was not consumer-friendly, I decided I needed to make sure they no longer had any of my business.

My partner and I have had a joint VISA card account for several years. After discovering that MBNA had been increasing the interest rate steadily over the past several months to 15.79%, I contacted their so-called customer service and asked if it was possible to have the interest rate lowered down to what was advertized on their website: 7.9%. The first credit analyst told me the best she could do was 13.99%. I told her that that was unacceptable. I indicated to her that I had just received an offer from Citibank MasterCard for a balance transfer rate of 3.9% for as long as it takes to payoff the balance, with no balance transfer fee. The analyst wouldn't budge! I thank her for her time and hung up.

Several hours later, I called back and spoke with another analyst. I explained the scenario and asked if she would lower the interest rate. She told me that, since the balance outstanding was over 50% of the total credit line available and there was a risk now associated with the account. I asked her if she was indicating that I was now a risk. She got very defensive and she said she didn't say that. I told her of the attractive balance transfer offer from Citibank and asked her again to lower the interest rate. She said she would not be able to do it. I thank her and hung up.

I then contacted Citibank immediately and initiated the balance transfer. Within a couple of days I noticed the balance had been transferred from MBNA and placed on my Conoco/Citibank MasterCard. As an recommendation, if you are transferring a rather large balance to another credit card, do it to another card you are not planning on using for a LONG time! Many credit card companies, including Citibank, will apply payments to balances with the lowest interest rate and if you start placing current purchases on that card, more than likely, they would be billed at higher rates!

Complaint:
Can someone help me with this!
I must say that MBN is not the company I would continue to be with.
Try this for size:
I have an old Sovereign Bank Credit Card, which was taken over by MBNA at 1.99%.
In the month of April MNBA requested a payment on the 1st of the month then again on the 30th of the month, I called to inquire about this.
My credit score and my wife's is over 650 each, The CSR stated we have a perfect account always paid what was asked for on /before the due date, and told me it was a billing cycle thing.
I then asked to lower my interest rate from 13.99%, which increased from 1.99% in Jan 06, after I transferred balances onto the card.  They gave me to a Senior Lender who asked some personal questions about my income etc.  I told him less then what I was making cause who knows where that information will end up.  They say they will not give it out but I really d/n believe that.
Next thing I know they closed this account because of my income to debt ratio!
It does not matter that I pay what they ask for and never miss a payment etc. or the years I been with them!
Our incomes total about 70K and up, without the rental income.
We have assets two houses one we rent, we have about 30K in banks accounts and another 25 to 30K in stocks and mutual funds not to mentions the pegged accounts and annuities and IRA's.
They were totally not interested in this and then demanded a full listing of liquid assets before they would consider reopening the account!
As if I would ever do business with them again!
I find this appalling and am furious.
The guy had the audacity to say after u pay some debt down we can reopen and continue to do business.
Anyone have any ideas that I could do to make them say they are sorry?
I am litigantly orientated!
thnx

Complaint:
I applied for a balance transfer of $4,200.00.   MBNA sent $9,200.00 to Providiann and charged me an extra $125.00 in balance transfer fees.  They refused to correct this error even though the transaction had not been completed.  I called MBNA to activate the card and to request status of the balance transfer and discovered this error.  The customer service person, "Rob", was very hostile and I even heard what must have been his supervisor yelling at me in the background that they could not read my handwriting.

I called Providian and I was advised that MBNA could put a stop payment on the transfer since Providian had not received it yet.  MBNA refused.

I feel like I was scammed at this point.

Complaint_against: MBNA CREDIT CARDS-- AVOID THEM LIKE PLAGUE!!!

Complaint:
AVOID MBNA LIKE PLAGUE!!!!!

MBNA has the worse fraud protection system on their credit cards. Any one can call in and get the information. All you need to know is the credit card number and the ZIP.
I recently received a MBNA perks credit card from MBNA in the name of my husband's ex girlfriend who has moved out 6 years back. The limit on this credit card is $7500. The worst part is that she has never had an MBNA credit card before.!!!
I do not need to activate this card to use it. I can simply sign on the back and use it. Also I called the customer service number on the back and all I have to do is put in the credit card #  and the zip code  and I can get all possible information on this credit card. (including balance, last transaction) etc.
This is absolute negligence on the part of MBNA because anyone who receives the credit card  can use it without the true owner ever knowing about it.. I called the customer service of MBNA  and they were least interested in the matter. Instead the customer service representative went on to tell me of how I would be committing a fraud if I used the card!!!! Also he said that customer service was only for customer!!! and His manager didn't have time for me.!!!

Complaint: I closed my account with MNBA. Then my secretary at work made a mistake and used my cancelled account to make a hotel reservation. MNBA should have denied authorization since the account was cancelled but they didn't and my trip was cancelled at the last minute by my boss. The hotel ran the charge through anyway. I called MNBA three times to tell them I wasn't going to pay them a dime since the account was cancelled and they should have denied authorization. Then they sent to a wonderful outside collection agency who have the manners of a dog. The guy I talked to called me a deadbeat who didn't pay his bills and he's been doing this for 25 years. I said I was surprised an novice like him lasted that long. I also told him that I only pay legally incurred bills and that started a few minute yell down partially because MNBA still can't get it that I'm not legally obligated to pay charges on an account I cancelled but also because the collection agency guy called me a!
deadbeat. MNBA's business ethics stink and boycott them anyway you can.

Complaint:
I was making payments on line during a promotional zero interest period running from Februraty to August 2006. I put a large balance to make use of this promotion. My payments March to July scheduled on line went well. My payment due Aug 8 I scheduled for Aug 4, 2006. I had gone on vacation to return home only to find that there was no posted payment of $1500.00 for Aug 4. I then check on line to find no trace that my payment was even entered into the system. I was also charged a $39 late fee for paying it late Aug 12 of course. My promotional zero rate was raised to 11.24% for the last month of the balance and I was hit with a $400 finance charge. I payed the balance off a few days later leaving a few hundred. I called them but got nowhere since I did not have the authorization number saved-my dumb mistake since I usually do this.
I just let it go since I did not cover my ass well enough. The next month things went ok, but my payment scheduled for Oct was again not in the system after a week had gone by-which did show on the scheduled payments web page right after I posted it. It also showed posted when I scheduled it back in July for the August payment. At least this time I caught it before it was due. I called them and told them in a rather pissed off voice that I thought they have screwed up computers( probably more likely human intervention). I also told them that there are probably many people out there with this problem and I will find them. She went off the phone and a few minutes later came back and gave me my $400 from the previous month back she said plus no interest this month. Humm sounds like someone has a brain over there. Moral of the story:Check your scheduled payments and make sure they stay posted and do not vanish. I don't think this is the end of this story by the way....

Complaint_against: MBNA/ Bank of America World Points

Complaint: I had excellent credit when I applied for this card and received a $2000 limit and a FIXED APR of 7.90%. After about a year of having the account, I had always made payments on time and done nothing wrong. They increased my limit to $3000 about 6 months ago. Now that I have a higher balance, they have decided to triple my APR to 21.99%. I called customer service and they said I was notified in my statement (surely in the fine print) that my FIXED APR was being raised due to a recent account re-evaluation. They said there was nothing I could do. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told by two different employees that there was no one else above them. While I was on hold, I heard about a customer service survey. I asked to be directed to the survey and I was never transferred. This company has terrible customer relations and they do not give a shit. I tried explaining to them that I am only 22 years old and my lifetime value is a lot more than the little bit mo!
re of interest their getting from me now until I cancel this card. This company is absolutely ridiculous and evil. Avoid them at all costs!

Complaint_against: MBNA Worldpoints

Complaint:Changing the payment due date - is this the new way for credit card companies to make money out of people who pay off their credit card in full, on time every month?
I have had a Worldpoints visa card for several years through M&T bank, administered by Bank Card Services initially, and by FIA card services for the last 2 months. The payment due date has always been the 8th or 9th of the month.
I checked my bill today and saw that last months payment was received on Dec 6th, but that I had been charged a late fee and finance charges. It was only then that I noticed that last months due date had been changed to 3rd Dec and I unfortunately hadn't noticed it. Ordinarily this would have been an on time payment, but because they had brought my due date forward 6 days it was now classified as late.
I called FIA card services, "Customer Satisfaction Department" hoping that when I explained the situation they would waive the late fee. I spoke to a very rude person who said that rules were rules and that a late fee couldn't be disputed. Late means late. I asked for a supervisor but the woman said she was a supervisor and that she would not waive the fee, that they were within their rights to make the payment due date whenever they liked and that it was up to the customer to keep track of it. I asked for a manager but was told that the only person senior to this supervisor didn't talk to customers.
I suggested that perhaps there needed to be a little flexibility in the rules as the payment would not have been late had they not messed with my payment due date, and that I had been a good customer, always paid in full on time and had never had a late payment before. Again she said it was up to the customer to get the payment in on time or pay late fees. I suggested that I might be forced to cancel the card if the fees were not waived and reminded her that she worked in the customer satisfaction dept.. but she didn't budge.
So, I have decided that I have no option but to pay the fees but will no longer use the card. I will make arrangements to use all the travel points I have earned and once I have completed my trip I will cancel the card. I do not wish to be made to feel like an errant child again and will not do any further business with this company.
Word of mouth and the internet will hopefully teach them that their "customer satisfaction dept" is anything but.

Complaint_against: AAAVISA  - MBNAandBank of America

Complaint:
I Need help knowing whether or not they can continue to charge $39 per month on the late fee of $39.00 from the previous month? I have paid for all my purchases and Have a good credit score in 25 years no missed payments on record. I closed my account with them for good.
PROBLEM: I have had repeated problems getting through to customer service and then after 20-30 minutes I get really poor customer service and a complete lack of follow through. I was waiting for a supervisor to contact me (they were not available) I was told it would take 48 hours. Weeks later I called and again people in their call center talk down to me. They are not about customer service. I have poor access to make payments and dont have the participating bank within 100 miles of me. In the meanwhile they are adding up late payment fees against me now up to nearly $100 even though I have paid for all my purchases....I have closed the account (I did this after waiting over 20 minutes again the 4th time I reached them) and have spent 2-3 hours on the phone--they are driving me crazy. I dont want to pay them anymore and they are saying that they will charge me $39 a month for the rest of my life ....WHERE CAN I GO FOR HELP?

Situation
I purchased something online called MYFICO for $89 with my AAAVISA card and then cancelled MYFICO, MYFICO took awhile to post the credit to my AAAVISA, I didnt make the payment because I thought the credit had posted. I called about the late payment fee of $39 and she argued with me stating that even though the credit posted later I was required to make the payment, she said it use to be that they would reverse the finanace charge and late payment fee when that happened but no longer do that. I decided to wait and call back and see if I could get ahold of someone else. but every time I called I was on hold so long that I could not wait. It turns out she reversed it but never told me, never communicated it to me. In the meanwhile I am trying to call and get ahold of them but I cant , if they answered the phone I could have found out and made my next payment. Now I had another late payment while trying and trying to resolve the first situation and WHY? because I try to pay my!
balance off in full and needed to still address the $39 late pmt charge. Now they are saying I have a late payment for the second late payment though all I was trying to do is resolve the first late payment still and it was taking forever to do that solely because they dont communicate with customers effectively. Over the Hoilday I was out of town and needed to call them to find out where to send my payment for December---they never answered the phone , I have records of being on hold over 80 minutes over my holiday and finally I gave up they charged me $39 for being late though I could not get through.
everyone i talked with was rude one person interrupted me repeatedly and everything was about me not taking responsiblity to make my payments on time and they did not reflect that for a moment I would have been able to do that if I had reasonable access to them

They are saying I cannot dispute late fees and finance charges and they are going to charge me a late payment fee for not paying the late payment fee......is this going to go on the rest of my life? do I have any recourse.... I have never hated a credit card instituation more in my life. Please help with some information of Places that regulate ?
Service requirements ? Where I can file a complaint? This place is in Delaware and I saw a complaint form against financial institutions in the state of De, I was going to write the AAAVISA card first but have no hope in that???I live in MICHIGAN, I mean we are really vulnerable to these extrememly mean and inefficent places , they are in DE there is little I can do from MI??

Complaint_against: MBNA

Complaint: Purchased a Gateway computer back in 1997, was financed through MBNA for 24 payments of $87.00 dollars a month.  We'll to make a very long story short, because of a few late payments and increased interest rates and any thing else they could add on, that $1800.00 dollar Gateway 486 computer cost me over $7,000.00 in payments to MBNA.  I paid them off two months ago in full.  They then sent me a letter stating I still owed them $4.84.  I guess if I don't pay it, that will be another $65.00 charge.  And if I don't pay that, that will be another $64.00 charge.  And if I don't pay that, that will be another $64.00 charge.  And if I don't pay that, that will be another $64.00 charge.  And if I don't pay that, that will be another $64.00 charge.  And if I don't pay that, that will be another $64.00 charge.  And if I don't pay that, that will be another $64.00 charge.  And if I don't pay that, that will be another $64.00 charge.  And if I don't pay that, that will be ano!
ther $64.00 charge.  And if I don't pay that, that will be another $64.00 charge.  And if I don't pay that, that will be another $64.00 charge.  And if I don't pay that, that will be another $64.00 charge.  And if I don't pay that, that will be another $64.00 charge.  Notice the pattern, but don't forget the interest.

Complaint_against: mnba/gmac/FIA

Complaint: I have been with gmac/mnba/FIA for many years and I took advantage of a special rate for fund transfers that was good for one year.  After the one year period my interest rate on the account was to go to 9.9% this lasted for two months then without warning gmac/FIA/mnba raised my rate to 23% even though I had never missed or was late on a payment and always paid more than the minimum payment.  When I called MNBA about this matter I was treated with a "debtors" attitude and was told that because this was considered an unsecure account I was now required to pay 23%.  Greed is not an adequate enough word to describe the unbelieveable way I was treated after many years of being an excellent customer.  My credit rating has always been in the excellent bracket and now because of this greedy treatment I paid off the account and will be glad to share my experience with all who will listen.   Customer beware!   Larry T.

Complaint_against: MBNA

Complaint:
I had a credit card with MBNA for 11 years with no problem, and then it began. In 2004, I had noticed on my bank statement that my two most recent payments to MBNA had not been cashed, and contacted MBNA. I was told that my account was in collections, and not to call back, and was hung up on. As I did not receive any information, I did immediately call back. I was told "Do not call back! If you continue to harass us we will report you to the authorities," and was hung up on again. I let it ride for a few days, and tried again, with similar response. Up until these two recent payments, they were receiving and cashing payments on time. I had a balance of $5800 and change, and had no idea how to make payments.
A month or two later, I began receiving calls from several collection agencies, each demanding payment in full, but refusing to provide information, particularly proof that they legally own the rights to collection. They also refused to provide me with a mailing address so I had no means to contact them.
I made a number of attempts to find someone to continue making my payments to, with no luck.
In March of 2005, I was served with papers from Columbia Collection Services in Sacramento California. I contacted them, and although initial contacts were civil, they demanded several thousand dollars beyond my debt of $5800, and I said I would not pay the additional amount. Later calls became not only hostile, but deliberately incoherent and meandering. During conversations, the representative would interrupt with bizarre exclamations of "Did you call the Police? Did you call the Police? Did you call the Police?" Leaving me bewildered, I respond, "excuse me?" And she replied "You said that you never made these charges, and your card was stolen; did you call the Police?" I had never made any such claim, and said so. All of the later conversations would be interrupted by these odd outbursts.
This led to an arbitration, requiring over $1000 to participate, which I chose not to do, as the impartial arbitrator was a David Makous who had handled over a dozen arbitrations for Columbia, and always sided in their favor.
Since then, I have been buried in paper hanging litigations from Columbia, most of which are decided in my favor, only to be hit with another demanding settlements in the tens of thousands. I have made numerous offers to pay $6,000 in full to settle the matter, and they have refused to accept. Be warned when dealing with MBNA, as this could be what you might encounter.tl
