I would rather be declined ,than to find out later that Im over my limit by 3.00 and now because you are such a good customer you will be charged 35.00 penalty. They signed me up for a master card that i did not give them authorization to do so, along with that they signed me up for there insurance without my signature. i have 5 different numbers to get rid of 2 charges. recieved a letter from one of there departments stating that they were reporting that i missed bill payments when i did not. the department that sent me the letter has no phone number and can only be contacted by phone. no one department appears to know things from the other department. i am getting the run around. if this could be done over again i would have never used it to purchase a computer at best buy. it is the best buy credit card. worst thing that you could have. i did not recieve statements for 2 months because they had my wrong address yet, my best buy rewards card and best buy sent me mail with the correct address and it was all from one form

Complaint:
My issue is with Household Bank Credit Card. I received a card unsolicited, but, kept it anyway before using it one day 3 months later.

The bill payment policies for this company are deliberately deceitful and designed to exact late payments from card users.

The payment for example is due on the 16th of the month. If you make the payment "on" the 16th your payment is considered late and a $35 late charge is sucked out of your account. They claim it takes 2 days to "post" which is not unusual in the industry. However, you are not "credted" with making the payment on time.

Its the semantics they use to deceive. "Post" means the payment you make will not "reflect" the payment for accounting purposes so that you can visually see your payment result for 2 days or whatever. That is common on all my banking accounts and other credit card companies where I have accounts. You ARE however CREDITED with the on time payment when the payment is paid on the due date it is paid.

They tell you the payment is due on the 16th. Thats a bold face lie. It is due on the 14th or they consider it late. If they need the money on the 16th why deceive their customers by telling them its due on the 16th when they know it will be considered late? Tell them the payment is due on the 14th.

This policy puts the consumer responsible for their internal accounting procedures.

SUMMARY

It is the general trend in financial institutions that are steadily stealing away rights of consumers, which now is approaching outright deceit and obvious policies "designed" to cause consumers to pay late fees through misunderstanding.

Its commonly known these credit card companies make the vast majority of their profits on late fees and interest payments. They have a natural incentive to further profits by policies that increase late fees and interest payments. This scurolous practice by Household is transparent and netting them millions by this deception.

Does it bother anybody that these blood suckers actually charge a fee for the privelege of paying them money you owe by paying over the phone?
Who protects the public by letting these people get away with deceptive policies like this?

Complaint: My exwife got a household bank credit card (best buy).  I paid the bill twice with one of my checks.  Although my name was not on the account nor on the application.  They continue to apply notices to my credit bureau of late payments.  I disputed this and they sent me a copy of my check that I had paid them.  They say this assumes ownership.  I have asked them repeatedly to provide the application to show my name was on the app and they refuse.  I have had to acquire and attorney to try to get this resolved.

Complaint:
My wife and I had a BestBuy Credit card years ago.  We paid off the balance, and they didn't apply the payment to the account for two weeks after they received it.  Why?  The person was on vacaton that handled it.  RIGHT!!!  Well, this was supposedly taken care of back then, but a year later, we were contacted about "our delinquent account".  We paid the balance in full.  These calls kept up for months when we finally agreed to half of what the computer showed we owed them.  We ended up "settling" more than one time.  After the third time, I told them that I was not going to pay any money to them.  The account was paid off!!!  I wasn't about to give them more money.  Well, they left me alone for about a year and a half.  At that time, they turned us to a collection agency.  I faxed all the info to that agency, and they must have turned the account back to Household Bank telling them they were in the wrong.  Since then, every 9 months to a year, we get a new collection agency calling us.  For 5 years now, I have been fighting and arguing this account with them.  I even have a check stub proving the account was paid with a consolidation loan we did to take care of it.

I no longer purchase anything from Best Buy.

Complaint: I canceled my credit card w/ Household Bank (twice) and paid my last bill of 559.30. I owed them 522.11, 29 for an overdraw fee, and 8.19 as a finance charge the bill was due on August 10th. I first canceled my card then paid the bill on time. They are still posting my information on their web and billing me like I did not cancel the card and tried telling me I did not pay the over the limit fee. Then they charged a fee every month, now stating I owe them over $103. They are calling at work and at home. I will not pay them I paid this card in full.

Complaint:
I received a bill for an annual fee from Household Bank for a credit card I've never received. I called them and said that I don't have any such credit card and want this account terminated immediately. Two weeks later I received a letter saying this account has been closed. Then, another two weeks later, I received a bill for the original plus a late fees.
I called them up and it went straight to their collections dept. who hung up on me twice. The third time they said "Oh, only one thing wasn't done in cancelling your card." And when I asked to speak to a supervisor, they hung up on me again.
God knows what they've reported to some credit agency.

This company needs to be shut down!!!

Have you had any complaints about a collections agency called Corporate Receivables, who does collections for Household Bank?  They made a settlement offer with me back in Jan. 2004 for 70% of my balance (this was oral over the phone).  I agreed, sent the check for the agreed upon amount by certified mail, as was requested.  It was credited to my account, but not as payment in full.  Mike Saunders, who made this agreement with me, kept promising a letter showing that this was payment in full.  He never followed through, even though I would call him every month when I received my statement.  Each time he would assure me that this account was paid in full, he would get the letter out to me.  And each time, nothing would happen.  In June, my account was sent back to Household and sold to another collections agency.  At that point, Corporate Receivables would not talk to me and I have not been able to anywhere since.  I have contacted an attorney today.

I am curious to see if there are any other cases out there like mine.

Thank you,

Complaint_against: Household Bank Gold Mastercard

Complaint: I acquired a small balance credit card for my teenage son.  When the card reached its credit limit ($300.00) I started to recieve statements that reflected a minimum payment that turned out to be insufficient to bring the balance-owed below the credit limit, even with no other charge activity.  The reason turned out to be a mid-billing cycle assessment of a overlimit charge assessment.  Thus, the minimum payment would change in the middle of the billing cycle by this mid-cycle addition of an overlimit charge assessment.  The billing cycle for the overlimit charge assessment was different than the statement's regular billing cycle.  This had the effect that when I timely mailed the current payent due, an overlimit fee would invariably be charged on the account each month.  Operating that way, the account appeared to be designed to remain at the credit limit forever.   In two months, I paid $70.00 in overlimit fees alone.  When you calculate the "effective rate of i!
nterest" produced by these monthly fees, the card's real rate of interest jumps to in excess of 120% per annum.  I wish federal authorities would enact a statute that limits the relative percentage of earnings that a card issuer can earn on a given account not to exceed 40% per annum.  Over limit fees and late charges would then be limited to no more than around $5 to $10 per month for an account that has a total credit limit of $300.00.  I paid the account off and closed it.

They forced me to pay for it. Their "Customer Service" will not listen nor let me talk, they wanted me to deal with my problem that someone else created. Just imagin that you have to pay for something you did not receive and their is nothing or nowhere you can go to get help, even with a company you do bussiness with for 8 years. It's really painful. I'm going to cancel this credit card and to people that carry this card, you have to be careful because you on your own. They are the worst of the worst.

Complaint: I was signed up for an auto club as well as a travel club without my consent.  Household Bank sent out $5 checks, and if they are cashed you are enrolled in the club.  I never cashed these checks, but was enrolled anyway and charged over $200.  In addition, I was charged overlimit fees.  Household would not assist me in removing these charges and insisted I deal directly with the merchants.  It has been a couple of months and countless phone calls have been places. Still I have not been able to have all the money credited back to my account.  Obviously Household has some arrangements with these companies, which is why they were unwilling to remove the fraudulent charges.  I strongly advise against doing any business with Household Bank.  I closed my account at once when it became apparent that Household does not care for helping their customers.

Complaint_against: Household Credit (Union Plus Credit Card)

Complaint: This has to be the biggest pack of crooks and thieves I have ever dealt with. When I was laid off in December last year I contacted the company and they agreed to put me on a lower interest/lower payment program for 6 months to help me through my unemployment. This sounded like a great deal but beware: A stipulation in the agreement was for me to agree to allow them to automatically withdraw payment from my checking account at an agreed date. I did agree to have payments automatically withdrawn. Well, they didn't withdraw the required amount for 3 straight months and when I discovered what was going on they had charged me 35.00 late fees and upped my interest rate to the maximum rate allowed. This eventually put me over my limit costing me overage fees as well. When I tried to contact them to dispute this disparity they denied ever agreeing to automatically withdraw the amount. What we have here in this country is a pack of legal loan sharks running around being p!
rotected by our government representatives thanks to all the lobbying money being thrown around.

Complaint:
Curious how Household Bank continue to operate.  I got an account that I never even asked for, and have been trying to pay it off for two years, but each month I end up with some excuse that it could not be posted on time. Each time I got a $70.00 fee for late and over draft.  Even though I paid the card down, they took the money and turned me into a company called Universal Recovery Systems.  This company sends a statement and so does Household Bank, both with completely different due dates for payments.  When they were questioned they refer back to the org. agreement for the card, which does not stiuplate that you must pay 10 days before you cycle date or you get the fees.  It should be noted that Universay Recovery Systems has been taken to court by several folks including the United States for discrimination and unlawful practices.  Also Household Bank has also faced charges.  At this time I urge everyone to file a complaint against this credit card company and Universa!
l Recovery Systems with the FCC and the Federal Reserve Bank as well as the BBS and your local State Attorney Generals Office.  If we all do that we stand a chance to stop them before someone else is hurt.  It is too late for my credit which they have distroyed, but we can help others.  Also FYI  ACCORDING TO BOTH HOUSEHOLD BANK AND UNIVERSAL RECOVERY SYSTEMS YOU MUST MAKE YOUR PAYMENTS 10 DAYS BEFORE YOUR CYCLE DATE OR YOU WILL GET ADDITIONAL FEES.   FEDERAL LAW REQUIRES ANY CREDIT CARD COMPANY WHO TAKES A PAYMENT OVER THE PHONE FROM YOU CHECKING ACCOUNT TO CREDIT THAT PAYMENT THE SAME DAY.  So again I say fight them, the more who complain the more we stand a chance to stop them.

Complaint: Household offered 0% interest for 6 months!  Of course I took advantage of this but when I wasn't receiving a bill in the first month I got online and it showed I had a late charge!  I hadn't even received a statement yet!!  Needless to say, this automatically voided the NO interest for 6 months.  Household was kind enough to reverse the late fee (BIG DEAL!) but they can do nothing about the finance charges I am now accruing at a dandy interest rate.  My statement eventually showed up ONE week after the payment due date.  Good scam!

Complaint:
I have had an HSBC credit card for 3 years with acceptable APR. Last month HSBC raised my credit card APR to 30.24 %. This is criminal usury in the state of New York where I reside. The maximum usury rate on credit cards is 25%.
I called Household Bank (HSBC) and asked them to lower my interest rate. I explained that I had never been late on my account, I owe less than 50% of the value of the card and that I have been a good customer. They told me to stuff it. I asked to speak to a supervisor who told me "Tough". I asked to be escalated and I was told that I would be put in the Supervisor's Supervisor queue to receive a call back, I've never heard from them.
How can a bank from Hong Kong Shanghai get away with this??
Who can stop them and protect me as a consumer?

Complaint:
Household Bank made the decision to jack up my interest rate despite three years of consistent on time payments and credit increases. They made this decision based on an Equifax report riddled with errors (including addresses I've never lived at and they also had my employer incorrect).

Household didn't allow me the time to dispute the information nor did they allow enough time to change the information before instituting the change in rate. They also were rude in discussion (although I will admit I got a little touchy when they started getting argumentative with me).

Any credit card company should allow long time customers sufficient time to dispute a charge before changing interest rates. This is unethical and it is predatory in nature. If there is incorrect information out there on a credit report it is the obligation of a credit card company to allow the customer the change to respond and correct it before jerking them around. It seems to me that Household uses this as an opportunity to get you further in debt and then jacks up the interest rates to increase their profitability.

Complaint:
Bought some TV's on the "same as cash" deal that Best Buy does from time to time. I get the bills and make a payment much higher than the minimum. Works great for a few months and then HSBC decides to "hold" their mail until after the due date, thus $35 late charges are posted. June bill was sent June 12th and posted June 21st, 2 days after late date. July bill was sent July 10th and as of today, July 20th, it has not been posted. Late charge has!

I tried to get them to re-direct earlier payments to the minimum payment, thus taking their options to hold mail to trigger a late charge out of the equation, but Artie( a real winner of a customer service rep) said they can't do that over billing periods.

I think I'll send in separate payments for a week and ask that they hold them until due for the next 5 billing periods........:):):)

Found out that HSBC stands for Hong Kong Shanghai Bank Corp........must be the initial Chinese invasion?  :):)

What a bunch of unscrupulous buffoons!!!

Oh, and I've switched to Circuit City from now on.......so bye, bye Best Buy!!!!!

Complaint:
Whatever you do, DON'T OPEN A CREDIT CARD ACCOUNT WITH ORCHARD BANK. I opened a small credit line about a year and half ago. It was only $200 and was secured. I wanted a few small lines of credit as I was trying to raise my credit score. Anyway, after a year and a half of perfectly on-time overpayments, I decided to close my account. At the time I had a $36 balance, and I was told that that amount would be deducted from the $200 and I would be refunded the difference. I thought that was the end. Oh no. Ten days after I closed the account, I received a statement saying that I was late and I owed $66 (this included the addition of a $30 late charge). I thought for sure it was a mistake. How can they charge a late fee on a closed account; after it was closed??? That makes no sense. This was a secured account? They have MY money? Also, the interest rate on my statement now showed 67.198%. I called them and was told that although I had closed the account, I would still be charge!
d fees until the closing had been complete (apparently a 30-day period). Of course this was never explained to me. Perhaps it was written somewhere in the size 6 font. Anyway, I was furious to say the least. I was told that if I didn't pay the money, I would be over 30 days past due and would be reported to the credit bureaus. I knew how long it could take to dispute the issues with the credit bureaus, so I felt I had no choice but to pay. I felt blackmailed truly. Who is protecting the consumer against these credit card companies? We are being greatly taken advantage of. 67% interest? That's just robbery!

Complaint: Household Bank / Beneficial might show up as HSBC on your credit report.

I have a Master Card with them and I might have used it 5 times for a grand total of like $500.00 balance. I seem to get billing statements once every three or four months. I got a Bill in the mail that said my balance was now like $1,200.00 Dollars. Thinking someone got a hold on my Credit Card account number and used my card without my knowledge or consent. I want to dispute the chanrges on the account. I contacted the customer service number and asked for a copy of all the account activity since the account was opened, but as of 07/28/06 I have not received anything from Household. I called them back in January of 2006 and nothing. They have turned my account over to a collection agency (Accounts Receivable Management Inc out of New Jersey). These clowns have called me at work, after I they had been told not to call me at work.

Ten Things Bill Collectors Don't Want You to Know

   8. They Can't Take It All
   9. They May Not Know a Thing
  10. You Can Pay Student Loans in Installments
  11. Side Bar--How They Find You

For many people, the cold call from the bill collector is an intimidating and even humiliating experience. They are unprepared to deal with collectors, who are trained to handle every type of response. Relentlessly assertive, collectors focus on "the close" -- your commitment to pay.  The less knowledgeable you are about your rights, the more confident a collector becomes; the more worried you are, the less concerned the collector becomes. Collectors know that it's easier to manipulate a conscientious debtor into a payment plan that benefits the collector, not the debtor.  You'll be in a better position to resist collectors' pressures, and negotiate a sensible repayment plan, if you're prepared for the tactics they're likely to use.
Here, then, are ten of the best-kept collection secrets.
1. The More You Pay, the More They Earn
Collectors get commissions -- usually 30 to 50% -- on money they bring in, which often double or triple their salaries. This means they have a strong incentive to press for a big "down payment" from you, even if this deepens the cycle of debt.
Collectors hoping for a big commission may claim that the boss insists on a big down payment. In fact, blaming it on a mythical manager is designed to deflect your anger away from the collector.
2. Payment Deadlines Are Phony
Payment deadlines set by collectors are meaningless. Collectors simply want to create a sense of urgency, because the longer it takes to get you to pay, the less chance there is of collecting the debt.
3. They Don't Need a 'Financial Statement'
Collectors often claim they need a "financial statement" from you, so they can work out a realistic repayment plan. You'll notice, though, that the information they ask for -- bank account numbers, references, place of employment -- is far more than they need for that purpose. They're fishing for information that will help them find you if you move or sue you if you don't repay the debt.
4. The Threats Are Inflated
Collectors always graphically detail the disastrous consequences of failing to pay a debt. "Your credit rating will be ruined," they warn. (Not mentioning that it's probably already not so good, since a collection company is after you.) "Your personal possessions, including your car, could be seized and sold at a public auction!" (Never mind that this virtually never happens; it's illegal in some states and impractical because of the expense.) Probably 95% of the time, collectors go after only bank accounts and wages.
5. You Can Stop Their Calls
You have the right, under federal law, to tell a collection agency to stop contacting you. Just do it in writing, and contacts must stop, unless they're to tell you that collection efforts have ended or the agency is going to take a specific action (like filing a lawsuit) against you.
6. They Can Find Out How Much You Have in the Bank
A collector who has your bank account and social security numbers can probably easily find out the balance of the account. Because big banks now have automated account inquiry systems, the collector doesn't even have to speak to a human being; all it takes is a phone call to the automated voice-mail service. When the account number and social security numbers are punched in, the computer promptly supplies an up-to-the-minute account balance.
7. If You're Out of State, They're Out of Luck
Collection agencies routinely call out-of-state debtors to demand payment. But if a creditor has sued you and won, you are probably safe from enforcement action if you bank and work outside the state where the lawsuit was filed. That's because to collect, the collection agency must transfer the judgment to your state, which is prohibitively time-consuming and expensive.
8. They Can't Take It All
Certain income, such as social security, pensions and 75% of your take-home pay, is exempt from enforcement action. You can file a claim of exemption from a garnishment of the other 25% of your wages if it would cause you or your family severe hardship.
9. They May Not Know a Thing
Sometimes a collection agency lawyer, trying to collect a judgment debt, sends questions on a court form asking about your income and assets. (These are called "post-judgment interrogatories" or "information subpoenas.") This is good news for you -- it means that the agency has no information and is hoping you will be intimidated enough by this legal questionnaire to complete it. Many people do, because the forms list sanctions, such as fines, for not doing so. But normally, it is too expensive and time-consuming for an agency to go to court and force compliance.
10. You Can Pay Student Loans in Installments
If you are behind on student loans, you can apply for what every collection agency hates: "reasonable and affordable payments" under the 1992 Higher Education Act. If you can document financial hardship, a collection agency must accept as little as $10 per month for at least six months. As long as you make the payments, you are eligible for Title IV Student Aid, and you can continue the payments unless your circumstances change.

Thanks and take care...

I applied for a personal debt consolodation loan online.  I was then contacted by Denise Matthews on 7-20-2006 and said that I would be able to get a $5,000.00 loan. She also state that there was credit insurance to pay by Western Union of $750.00, in total $808.99.
She sent me the loan papers which I faxed back with a copy of my drivers license, social security card and the signed papers.  On 7-21/2006 I western Unioned the money needed.  I was told that in 24-48 hours the funds would be in my account.  When no money was there i called and they said I needed the wiring instructions for the bank.  After I supplied that it would be another 48 hours to get my money.  It never happened.  I called back again, this time the lady told me they would research it. After 24 hours i finally got a call back and they said that i would need to pay $600.00 more or request a refund.  i have faxed my request starting on 7-31-06  I still have note yet gotten MY money back.

Complaint:
I was with Orchard Bank for almost two years with a $2,000 credit limit, 18.40% APR, no annual fee.  I received a change of terms notification that they were raising my rate to 27.9%.  When I inquired about the reason, they told me it was based on information in my credit report.  My credit score was higher than when I opened my account with them and, by their own admissions, I was an excellent customer with perfect history with them.  I complained about this and asked that they not change the terms.  They not only refused to not raise my rate, they would NOT review my credit and credit history to give me further justification for the rediculous rate increase.
Suffice to say, they scammed a perfect customer and I am now paying a rediculous APR on the card.  Rest assured, I am paying more than the minimum and will pay the card off when I get my annual bonus in March of 2007....and will cancel the card and NEVER do business with them again.
BTW: Even though they would not budge on the APR issue, they were courteous enough during our discussions.

I have never had a card with these people.  About two weeks ago, I began to get dozens of phone calls from HSBC asking for a particular person, whom I had no knowedgle of.  Apparently, he gave them my cell number fraudulently.  The calls came frequently.  Twice, I asked them to remove my cell phone number from the list.  But they did not do it.  I kept receiving calls.  I was only able to learn who was calling me by looking at caller ID, which listed 800-684-8429 as the caller's number, and calling the number back.  My advice is: don't do business with HSBC.  Their data systems are so messed up that they can't seem to delete a phone number from their system.  If they can't do that, you don't want to work with them.

Complaint: This card has been nothing but aggravation.  I set up an online pay schedule with them and they changed the due date TWICE without any notice thus making my automatic payments late and charging me heft late fees.  The first time this happened I called and had it resolved to which the represenative told me that everything had been fixed and my billing cycle would be put back to its original date.  He also took entered my new e-mail address in their system.  Three months later the same thing happened to which they replied "You must have called and requested it to be changed".  This is criminal.  In addition they claim they sent me a notice to raise my interest rate from 19% to a whopping 29%!!!!!  I never got such notice.  That also raised my minimum payment without any notice.  Something has to be done about this company.

BEWARE stay away from HOUSEHOLD BANK, HSBC, ORCHARD BANK and DIRECT MERCHANTS.  They are thieves and that is why they have to have so many aliases.  These are the same people just different names on the credit cards to fool consumers.
Household Bank has made a habit of holding payments to ensure they are "past due" so they can charge an additional fee.  Three months in a row, I paid well in advance of the due date, only to see on my next statement that they were ALL applied to the account one day past due. I have been making my payments electronically through my bank which is a Credit Union.  I have proof from my bank that the payments were made well in advance of the due date.  I have contacted Household and asked them to refund the late fees. I got the standard we didn't receive it before it was due please see the terms and conditions....BLAH BLAH BLAH generic programmed answer from someone named Kamalesh ( I swear) no last name either just Kamalesh. I am SICK of these companies treating their consumers like we are stupid and stealing from us. I am paying off this credit card and telling them to stick it.  If you receive offers from any of these companies mark them return to send and mail it back!!!!!

Complaint: I send my payment well in advance to HSBC at their City of Industry, California office.  I then check the account on the internet to see if it has posted.  It usually takes ten days or more. We send mail to North Hills, California all the time and it only takes three days for it to arrive.  Often, an email is sent to get them to post my payment.  I will transfer my balance to another company and close this account as soon as possible.   Section 609 a and b of the Fair Credit Reporting Act states they must post your payment promptly.  If it weren't for constant checking on the internet, they would probably get me for a late fee charge by holding up my payment until it was past due.  I would recommend this technique for those who have the internet available to them.

Complaint:
It is interesting to see so many credit card complaints with Orchard Bank (AKA HSBC Credit Services).  This company is clever--no doubt about it.  I, too, am in the process of rebuilding my credit and mailed an offer by HSBC Card Services through Orchard Bank to receive an unsecured credit card.  I received the card and was not charged an annual fee--I have paid the card in full each month (for the last 5 month).  I recently received a notice from Orchard Bank indicating that my fixed APR interest rate is going from 14.90% (which was bad) to a variable APR of 29.99%. I have never been late and have never exceeded my generous $300 line of credit, et cetera.  Yes, SallySue (who sounds like a PR person working for HSBC Card Services), I read the user agreement.  But tell me where it says the service agreement states that there are 10 to 14 day holds on CASHIER'S CHECKS (with notes on them indicating the same).  The user agreement also doesn't let you know that their CSR's are inept--I mean, this company should be on a Saturday Night Live skit.  Whoever runs their Call Centers should be fired.  I am also canning my account.  Buyer beware--you need to really watch this credit card company if you agree to one of their credit cards.   I agree with several of the other people who have written in--go to your local credit union or bank and dump HSBC Card Services, Orchard Bank, or whoever they call themselves this week.   Happy Hunting

I took advantage of thier zero financing option that was available for six months. Most payments were processed correctly, but when it got down to the final month of the zero financing, a payment was mailed on 10/28/06 and not posted unil 11/8/06. All other payments were posted within five days on average.  They held the payment until two days after thge due date (or 12 days). A $39 fee was charged and the interest rate was increased to a default interest rate of 17.49%.  When I called customer service to ask why they held the payment for so long they denied it despite the facts. I promptly transferred the balance to another credit card offering better terms hoping that companies like this will lose customers and go out of business from criminal tactitcs.

I have an account with Orchard Bank and will be closing my account ASAP.  We had a death in the family and had to pay final funeral expenses for a 21  year old daughter.  I contacted Orchard Bank to make payment arrangements on our over the limit amount.  For the last three months I was charged over limit fees and a check by phone fee of $12.50 for each months automatic payment.  So for the one phone call to make payment arrangements three months ago I was charged $12.50 per month for them to automatically take money out of my checking account for the last three months. $12.50 x 3 = $37.50 + over the limit fees for three months.  I tried to talk to them about taking the check by phone fees off and was told once they have been posted to my account they can not take them off my account.  WHAT A RIP-OFF ! ! !  I called the customer service department and as far as I know I was taking to someone over on the other side of the world as they could not even understand me and I could not understand them either!!  Most answers sounded like canned responses.  WHAT A JOKE  !  ! !
My account will be CLOSED ASAP ! ! !

Complaint: Household credit gave my account to a collection agency called Arrow Financial Services. I called Arrow Financial services and they told me they have passed my account over to Bay Area Credit Service. I called Bay Area Credit Service to see how much I owed and to whom. The representative told me that I would not receive the discount if I hung up the phone with him, which he offered me to pay off my debt for $400 instead of the $482 reported on my credit report. I felt their practice was irregular so I told them I wanted to confirm my debt with Bestbuy first. I also told Bay Area Credit Service not to contact me whatsoever. A half a hour later, Bay Area Credit Service made several calls. On the third phone call, I picked up and told them not to call again because it was 8:00 P.M. Pacific. The fourth phone call, a gentleman from Bay Area Credit Service name Steven answered the phone and started cussing at me with profanity. He said, "Listen to me you motherfucker." !
I felt extremely threatened with his comments. I told him not to call me again and hung up right away. Bay Area Credit Service then attempted to call me 3 more times consecutively. Please help stop this harassment. Thank you.

Complaint: Household bank is the most unscrupulous, skullduggerous lending institution out there right now. 18 months ago they said I was late for 1 payment- They couldn't prove it - I pay electronically - then they didn't raise my rate until 6 months later. butt ehy raised it to 27.99APR. I tried many tiems contacting them and I always get the same automated response from their email - from either Pradeep, Krishna, Manjeet, that says they reviewed my file and it was the best rate they could offer. I finally got them on the phone - and the lady said they couldn't change m y account because it was closed. Well I never closed it. I was a customer in good standing for 5 years! They closed it when I complained about the rate. Then The customer service manager said she would reopen it and if I paid it for 2 straight months They'd drop the rate. I did. They sent me a note saying - sorry. They couldn't reopen a closed account! What kind of crap is this? Now I'm going to have to sue!
them in court - which I will because their customer service is so poor- automated with exactly the same responses - but from a  different (never American) name. Complete crap. I ask for a call to discuss and they wont call you. You have to call them and then they have no rec ord of your problem and you have to start from the beginning - after they place you on hold for 20-30 minutes. If I don't pay - other credit cards will see it and all raise my rates- This is Racketeering isn't it? Anyone else had inexperiences with Household?   Anyone considered going after the banks for racketeering?

Complaint_against: HSBC aka: Orchard Bank Rip Off Card

Complaint: I have the card, but will never use it again. I had a balance of $278.00, just under my $300. credit limit all of a sudden change to $302.00 from interest. This turned into a $30.00 over the limit charge and then when I made my payment from the statement another over the limit charge, plus late fee of $30.00. Before I knew it I had over a $422.00 balance. Turtles move faster than this company. They make most of their money off poor slobs, who are trying to re-establish credit and they know they can rip us off. Another rip off example is their taking three days to process a online payment. All my other online bill payments are done in less then twenty four hours. Another way for them to make money. Hold off long enough so you payment is late, even though you made it 3 or 4 days early and voila, a thirty dollar late charge and hopefully you didn't make a large enough payment, so over the limit charge again. I'm really not sure how they get away with this kind of Unf!
air Trade Practices but they do. They need a good class action lawsuit to straighten them out, since the government doesn't seem to care.

Complaint: My experience with HSBC has been horrific. First, I fill out their online application. Then, they send the card. I activate it. I try to use it at a store. It gets declined - I'm humiliated. I call and am told it is on a "security hold" because they want me to produce several pieces of "proof" that I am who I am. The specific documents they require are impossible for me to produce, as those bills are not in my name. I can produce plenty of documentation proving who I am; however, they'll only accept what they want. I'm all for security, but this is ridiculous.  I called today to just have my account canceled. They told me I CANNOT CLOSE MY ACCOUNT UNTIL I PRODUCE THE DOCUMENTS. I informed them that they are holding my credit hostage and they just don't care. You need to research HSBC because there are a lot of complaints you can find online about them. Do your research. I wish I had.

Complaint: I had 2 accounts with household bank. One a Gold Mastercard and one a Visa Priveledge. I called because I made a payment to the wrong card. The Associate advised me that I can conver my accounts into One Card to avoid any future mistakes. Before this , I confirmed I made an error and asked that the amount of 500.00  to be transferred to the Privledge card because of the overpayment to my gold account. So before any conversion began , I asked the associate to make sure the transfer was cancelled. She comfirmed nothing showing on the system . So we were at a go, I was advised that the Privledge would be cancelled and to stop using it for 11-14 days . So at that time I simply cut it up. She then advised the good history I had on my gold account and transferred me to an accoouont manager for a limit increase. At this moment , I could not ask for a better card. This was on Feb 7, 2007. Feb 16 , I log on to my accounts , my gold card is overdrawn 900.00 . OMG! Why would!
they allow my account to overdraw . Simply because that transfer request was never cancelled. So what now. .. I was told.. this is an attempt to collect a debt.... Now I am treated like this? So i get this account manager , her name is Sherry , after explaining the whole situation to her , she says " So Exactly how can I help you"? Whats done is done??? WOW , So much for being a great customer. Then as my heart rate is incresing by the minute on this horrible call. I am then told the request the customer service associcate did on the 7th of Feb, was not approved.... I never knew there was an approval. I was dumb founded on how great I was to how horrible I was in a week. So now im fed up . My credit rating is decent , I dont need these cards. So i call to close them out. In the mean time my Privledge card now had an Overpayment because of the 500.00  transfer that took place to my account. Would you believe the agent advised me that she cannot tranfer that money back to my !
household gold card , there is no way it can be done , and it was confirmed by a manager who is going to mail me this 250.00 check that was overpayed so I can cash it to only pay them back to the gold account. Well if this was a policy , how did they allow a 500.00 transfer to take effect to the Privledge card , when the check clearly stated it was payable to my master card gold account... shady dont you think. So now im just exhausted. I called household to close my account s, I didnt even care about the cash back rewards, i didnt care about lower rates , I was just fed up. The attutides changed so much in a week , its like a bi-polar facility. So where is this great customer appreciation. Still I am stuck with an overdraft fee that never happens on any of my accounts, and i am stuck with household reporting a high balance on my credit report, I 700.00 max credit limit is now close to 1,0000 that was not even supposed to happen. Funny thing is , there are notations becuase !
I told the banker to note them. I had this company for 4 years. I would advise anyone interested in a house hold account to be careful of who they talk to , and who advises you for something this is not even true. Dont let this happen to you. Thanks for reading .

I opened my Household Bank card 3 years ago, have since never been late on a payment and always pay 3 times the minimum amout due.  Today,  I called them to ask for a lower A.P.R. and they told me that my acount did not qualify for a lower A.P.R. because of my payment history and being over limit.  The whole time the customer service agent was talking to me it was so obvious that she was reading from a prepared script... She kept repeeating the same thing over and over and kept saying there was no one else there that could help me and would not allow me to speak with a supervisor.  By the end of the day I will be a former Household Bank card holder.

Do not apply for their credit card! I applied for a HSBC credit card 1 year ago with a promised rate of 0% APR. After one year I was told that they would then charge me finance charges. Fine...no problem. Now, when I looked at my statement, they are charging me 21% APR. When I called to find out why such a high charge, the rep stated that I was told when I applied for the card that I would be charged the prime rate plus an additional 12%. I was never told this. The rep did nothing more to help me and it was over. DO NOT APPLY FOR THIS CREDIT CARD!!!! They have horrible customer service and are really ridiculous

Complaint_against: HSBC Bank-credit card

Complaint:
I recently cancelled a card in December 2006. This request was mailed, in writing, with the final payment on the account. As a result of not being able to cancel auto payments through online accounts, a credit balance was formed. I called the company, again requesting a cancellation on the card and a refund of the credit balance, and to cancel the online payments. The next month, there was another automatic online payment, resulting in additional credit balance. I again called the company to verify cancellation and request refund of credit balances.
Eventually, I received the refund, but received another bill for the exact refund amount. I disputed the charge through the online link and called customer service again. I was told that the company made an error in refunding "too much" and we were to return the amount. Since when is a customer responsible for the company's mistakes? Now, I see that there is a $35 late charge on the account and it is showing delinquent, affected my credit status. The only balance is the disputed amount and I am not supposed to get charged for that amount, which I also confirmed with customer representatives. In fact, the account balance should be $0 and I should not be responsible for company errors.
Each time my wife called to handle these issues, I have had to give permission to add her name as a contact so she can take care of issues in my absence. Is there no documentation done with each customer service contact? The site specifically states to add an authorized user. "In order to process your request, please contact us to speak a Customer Care representative".
I cannot tell you names of representatives. They have been very difficult to understand due to them not speaking appropriate English. Are they not an American company? Automated phone message indicates to "press #1" for Spanish, but they don't have anyone speaking English. This terrible service does not support the company mission."That's why we look at all our customers individually and strive to provide them with personalized service and credit products that fit their specific needs."
We have not been able to get adequate service on this issue, the account is closed, and I should not be responsible for any balances resulting from your company errors. I have been an excellent customer with this company, and I have been getting nothing but irreprehensible service, just to cancel an account, no less.

Saw a complaint here against HSBC / Direct Merchants Bank regarding Saturday due dates.  The same thing happened to me, they are thieves.  I filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau and the Comptroller of the Currency (Treasury Dept) HSBC's primary regulator.
HSBC Bank Nevada N.A. is fraudulently misrepresenting payment due dates.  They will bill a customer stating the due date is a Saturday.  When the customer pays on Saturday he is charged a late fee of $39.00.  HSBC's response for the late fee is that they do not post payments on Saturdays.

I applied for a 0% balance transfer 3 months ago with HSBC.  First problem, they did not transfer what I requested. They transfered a much smaller amount.  No good for me.  Now I just have yet another payment to make.  Seondly, got my first bill well after it was due.  I called, got the late fess reversed and then went through a lentghy discussion on when the payment swill be due.  Next month, I paid in plenty of time even though again, I didn't have my bill yet.  They took at least ten days to process my last payment and still weren't showing my second payment.  They were not charging me fees this time.  I called them several more times discussing at length when the payments would be due,  how soon I would them mailed (automaticall) so that they would consistently get my payments on time.  And also how the devil long it takes them to "process".  This went on three months.  I still had 0% interest, but I did not want to go through worrying about their questionably practices!
of "processing anymore.  I researched them online and found a lot of folks with problems.  So I called them, told them to cancel my account.  I wanted to know the exact dollar amount I owed and sent the payment right away with a letter reiterating I closed my account.  Now I get a bill still showing I owe, but my 0% interest is now 19.99.  No record of late payments and I was supposed to have 0% for several more months.  I call.  i now have an extra $30.71 in interest to pay.  I call and after a lengthy discussion and sent to the "cancellation" department.  What this really is..is the you can't cancel and let us ignore your pleas.  I spoke with that representative who told me a) no notes on me canceling, b) they don't accept letters, c)  they can waive me $30.71 if I keep my account open and will REDUCE my interest to 13. something interest.  Reduce?  It was ZERO!  I insisted they close my account and get rid of the bogus interest.  I was told they can raise my interest.  I!
next talked to a supervisor who again refused to close my account.  Denied they don't accept letters and refused to waive my interest fee saying it was impossible.  I said, well, if I keep my account open, and the previous lady waived the interest, then I have a zero balance.  Then close my account.  He said no, I would have terms that would require my account open.  Fine, for how long?  I just won't use it?  Never got an answer.  So I once again insisted he close the account.  I literally had to start screaming "CLOSE MY ACCOUNT" about 7 or 8 times before he would agree. At this writing I still have an interest fee.  Now it is clear they did get my notice to close my account, why else would they suddenly decide to charge me interest?  Yet they denied getting proper notice.  One last thing.  They said between March 10th and April 4th, they recieved three payments from me.  And because I had paid in full, not by the end of the month, they can charge me interest.  WHAT???  Then I got the corporate address.  Said they couldn't give me a number to call, that corporate only communicated by fax.  sigh.
Unbelievable.  I am now going to report them to every government agency I can find.

Complaint: I called the above creditor with a complaint that the APR had gone up too much - to 18.9 percent. They stated that they could not do anything - and was quite rude in telling me, which influenced me in closing my account - with a small balance - Wouldn't you know it, they raised my APR to 39.9, yes 39.9 no typo here, for the remaining balance of 1k. I suggest that everyone watch out for this creditor so you won't get screwed.

Complaint: I got a statement from HSBC saying I should pay $45 becuase my annual fee was coming around in the next month. I mailed them a check for $65 so I could cover the fee and my usual payment. My balance was $225. I start getting calls about 3 weeks later saying my balance was $505 and asking how I wished to pay down my balance. I politley asked who they thought they were pulling a fast one on. He said they hadn't received payment. My annual fee had posted amd put me over my credit limit. (I refuse credit limit increases when I get them because I KNOW I overspend and the low limit makes me use cash instead) BUT at this time they added the 29 dollar late fee, and a 35 dollar over the limit fee, as well as the 45 dollar annual....then added another over the limit fee and lots of other trash. I told the girl I'd pay the $200 payment if she'd kick the fees...I DID send the check and have ALWAYS paid on time for over 2 years now, have no other deliquencies on any other card!  ...or loans. They knew they were wrong. After 2 hours of arguing, she took off all the fees but $15 and I did make the payment over the phone but was charged $14 for that also. I am not dealing with them and the account is paid down to $12 and will be cancelled when I close on my house with my husband next month. The payment that I sent posted to my checking account in the amount of $65 less than 2 days later...(they had the payment but chose to hold it to see if they could pull a fast one on me) I REFUSE to deal with companies like that and don't suggest it for anyone else.

Complaint: I have had a Best Buy credit card for several years- I purchased a flat screen tv High Def in 2006.  Best Buy automatically put me on a deferred finance plan. I paid off the deferred finance charges of over $1,600 in series of payments ( all made in one statement period) in April 2007 by the deadline. They charged me all of the finances charges anyway. I called customer service and spend an hour on the phone with a representative and his manager.  They apologied and removed the charges.  May 11th the charges were reapplied to my account- without any explaination or notification.  This is the most unethical and predatory company out there.  I was just ripped off by $1,600- paying a lot more for my TV. I will never patronize Best Buy again.

Complaint_against: Household Bank (Credit Card)

Complaint:
If you get an offer from Household run, don't stop until you see the name Household well out of your sight.
Received a credit card offer with 0% interest, $750.00 credit limit.  Made payment online, Household accepted payment online, did not post any "late fees/overlimit fees" when payment was made to and accepted by Household.  The next day, after payment had been accepted Household adds a $35.00 late fee and $35.00 overlimit fee.  That's right, after payment was accepted online.  Make note that there was no notice or postings that payment was "LATE" or OVERLIMIT" when payment was made and payment was accepted by Household.  They came up with some lame excuse that they could add these fees "at their discretion."  That's an additional $70.00 added to an account "AFTER" payment was accepted and when there was no mention of payment being late.  Household SUCKS big time.
Additionally, less than a year after my 0% interest card was received, my interest rate jumped to 29.74%.  When I questioned Household Bank about this sudden jump in interest, with no notice, they stated that it was based on my credit report.  So I go and pull up my credit report and of course Household "NEVER" inquired on my credit during the time in question.  It's one excuse after the other with them.
Household needs to be put out of business big time and sanctioned and fined for each and every consumer they have "RIPPED OFF."  It does no need to complain because to Household they are always in the right.
Household does not comply with the FCRA and it's sad because we, the consumers, must suffer for all the unscrupulous acts that Household is able to get away with.
It's time for the government regulators to do something about the sneaky tactics Household gets away with.

I have two acc.'s with Household Bank and Orchard Bank which are owned by HSBS. Send both payments to same address. Payments for both card were $15 each. I sent a Check for $100 ($50 for each acc.) With check I put in a note the acc. #'s and that $50 was to go to each a acc.  Two weeks later a get a phone call from some where overseas by a person that could not really understand, so I called right back to find out the problem.  The problem was that they took the check and put it all in one acc. So on one acc. of $278 with a %9 interest rate and a payment of $15 I was charged $35 late charge. The late charge put me over the limit, so I was charged another $35. In the end I'm paying $75 on a $15 payment that I sent in and HSBC put in another acc.  Their come back was was sent in one check and payment at a time. Who do they have working for them monkeys.  I'm trying to correct my credit, but I won't be able these people or should I say rip-off artist. I also find that you never talk to the same person and that you also get a different story

Complaint: It is unreal what this company does to its customers. I have been charge so many late fees that I can't count them and everyone has been from fees they have applied to my account. You make your payment before your due date and it does you no good at all. They will come up with some fee to rip you off. I have both cards and I have to say the Orchard Bank is by far the worst. I even spoke to a supervisor who looked at my account and admited all the over the limit fees I had been charged was do to their tricky charges. Dealing with them is a no win situation! I cut my card up and will struggle for a long time to get rid of them and try to save my credit. Anyone who is thinking of dealing with them better listen to all the warnings here. They are all true and hopefully will protect you from being a vicitim of theirs.

Complaint:
My creditcard number was stolen and tried to used fradulently. company warned me and told me that they are cancelling my account against fraulent activity. Probably due to mastercard blunder that cost 4 million credit card numbers.

Because due date was coming I tried to pay my bill. I always used internet beacuse I do not believe that I have to pay $12 for a check payment, which I believe is a clear definition of highway robbery.
I could not use my online account to pay my bill. I called customer service, tried to tell the situation but rep tried to tell me that only option is to pay $12, just to be able to make a payment.(this is not the payment, this is the fee to be able to make a payment, otherwise $35). I asked for a supervisor. She helped me alot!! and made a discount, %50!.I have to still pay for the payment. Which  I could be able to do it free, days before. Now because they cancelled my account, without informing me that I would not be able to post my payments, I am thinking that this is a scam to rip more money out of our pockets.
I told them to charge me $35, and will cancel my card. Orchardbank is a lousy, pickpocket company be advised. If anybody knows that they cannot do this, i do not care about the costs of legal action or whatsoever, please letme know. I already decided to pay full and close the account and took the $35 late fee charge.

Complaint: I started receiving emails from Orchard Bank several months ago telling my my payment was due, then late, then Thanking me for my payment.  The problem was I have never HEARD of Orchard Bank and never done business with them or any of their affiliates.  I called them and they wanted my SS# to verify my account (which I don't have).  They wouldn't give me any info they had regarding me, but wanted me to give them all my info.  Every time I received emails from them in the future I would reply that they had the wrong person.  I finally got ugly in my replys, but they just kept sending me statement info, with no account# info.  I finally got them for HARRASSMENT because coincidentally everytime I responded to them I would be bombarded with Lotto winning notifications.  They refused to do ANYTHING to solve this problem without my SS# or my home address and personal info!  I DON"T THINK SO!!  Then I finally read these SCAM REPORTS and their name is a regular on all the!

I too have been a victim of Orchard Bank.  I had my account paid off and tried to close the account because of the high interest rate.  They talked me into keeping it and gave me a lower rate.  The only problem with that is, my card expired and I never received a new one.  I called and they said it was in the mail.  It has been in the mail since July of 2005.  Everytime I call they tell me it has been sent. The excuses vary every time I call.  Once it was there was a problem in their mail room.  The last time I was told they ran out of plastic but the situation has been corrected.  That was a month ago.  In the meantime they have charged me another annual fee.  I tried to close the account but they told me I couldn't do that because my account does exist.  I can't use it because I have no card.  Talking to a supervisor doesn't help.  They just keep repeating the same thing without an result.  I have just written my last check to them.  I just received further email correspo!
ndence from them telling me I can call and make my payment for the annual fee over the phone with an additional charge of $12.50. As soon as my check clears I am going to contact the State Attorney Generals in all the states that they have addresses in and file a formal complaint.  These people have been so difficult to deal with.  I think they are committing the biggest fraud going.  They are charging customers for absolutely no service whatsoever.  Annual fees are paid in advance.  So far I have not had the use of a card since July.

Complaint: Honestly, does anyone read what's called the "terms and agreement"?   Credit card companies do not send these out to just be thrown away.  They are to be read, you want to know what you're agreeing to.  Annual Membership fees on the credit cards are supposed to be charged in advance.  ALL of the Mastercard companies did have a delay with plastics-- that is the truth.  Where the credit card companies purchase there plastics from ran out because of the holiday rush-- not the credit card companies fault.  The check by phone fee should be waived when a customer is having a problem paying a payment over the internet due to their account number being changed (unless it's the customer's error).   The 12.95 check by phone fee is in place because it's a convenience option-- you're going to pay more for a cooked pizza, then a frozen one from the local supermarket.  Plus, for all the calls customer service receives to process a check by phone, that customer service represent!
ative needs to have a paycheck as well.  When you wait to pay your bill at the last minute, it's going to cost you extra.  There's plenty of other payment options that cost either .39 for a stamp or online for no cost, plus now you can pay at any branch.  No one can say they don't have a local library nearby to go online.  The internet is everywhere.  Also, not a one of the customer service representatives would refuse to close an account.  They have to, it's plain and simple.  If you state you wanted to close your account, they might ask why to try and save your business-- but they will close it.

I have an account with Orchard Bank and I was aware of thje annual fee up front, so that was no surprise to me however they also told me they "ran out of plastic" what was suppose to take my card 3 days to get to me ended up taking 5 weeks.... They did credit me back the express shipping charge but wouldnt budge on anything else.
The MAIN thing that makes me want to leave this company is: I made a payment by money order in the amount of $350 to pay my balance in full.
They recieved my payment on the 7th, today is the 12th and it's showing as posted to my account however the money will not be available to me for 14 days !!!!!
It's bull**** If i make a payment on my credit card, as soon as they get the $$$ it should be available to me, I do understand if it were a personla check they were waiting to clear, but they also do the same thing with checks, it will clear your bank account in 2 days but you must wait 2 weeks for it to become available to you.
I already paid my $80 annual fee, so i will stick it out the rest of the year but after that I'm definately leaving this company.
If i'm doing the right thing by making my payments on time as well as paying the balance off why should i have to be penalized for the ?

They lost my $250.00 payment made by money order. The package was sent Fed ex overnight - FedEx shows that the envelop containing my payment was recieved and signed for by a K. English. However, Orchard bank refuses the fact and says they never recieved the payment. The stub of my order does not help them find it either. They require COPIES of the money order front AND back to "find" my payment. What a crock!!! NEVER NEVER EVER GET A MASTERCARD FROM ORCHARD BANK> Try Capitol One or another more reputable service. These people are scam artists and have ways of getting more money out of you with mid-cycle over the limit fees, lost payment fees, etc. Etc.

I had the card for several years to rebuild my credit.  For the most part service was OK, but certainly not great.  I recently switched to a  card at my local credit union and paid off the Orcahrd account through them.  Orcahrd claimed to have never received the check, so I put a stop on that payment and made an on-line payment so it was on-time.  Although the card was torn up and tossed and the account closed for several motnhs, they keep adding fees and claiming I owe them money.

Simply closing the account is a nightmare and they simply keep sending e-mail's saying they were for balance transfers and cash advacnes (neither of which I've ever done).

I think their customer service is out of the country and I am forced to file formal complaints with the State Banking Commission and the State Attorney General's Office.

I've always paid on time and did not beleive the goffiness of this outfit.  Do not do business with Orchard Bank or HSBC, especially if you are trying to save money and rebuild.  Go to your local bank or credit union.  You may not get pie-in-the-sky, but they won't screw you either.  Avoid this disreputable firm at all costs.

I've tried to pay off my credit card in full TWICE.  The first time the check by phone was rejected.  Orchard Bank mis-keyed my checking account information.  Problem was the number they keyed in was so far off base that they said it was MY fault because they read it back to me.  I remember the person who took my payment didn't speak english well and they even sounded like they could be overseas.  So I ate a $70 charge.  Tried to pay again by phone--the full amount.  My bank statement and balance have roughly 8x the amount I'm submitting for payment.  I paid again on the 6th. It is now the 13th and my on-line account information says the payment HAS BEEN REJECTED and there is another $70 FEE!  WTF!
I will call them this morning and trying to figure out why they can't do their job!  This could negatively impact my credit and it IS THEIR FAULT NOT MINE. :(

I canceled an order that was purchased using mu orchard bank card. After about 2 weeks of not receiving a credit on my card i contacted the company issuing the refund. They provided me with a copy of the transaction of the cancellation. After contacting Orchard Bank the customer service tells me that i was to receive a credit but it will not show up until next month. I call again later and a different customer service rep tells me that the issuing company never contacted them an I would have to wait 30 days to dispute the charge.(Meanwhile i still get charged the interest)

Orchard bank fraudulently will not issue a refund credit so they can charge extra interest. If anyone is filing a class action law suit I will gladly sign up. Just say NO to orchard Bank. They are fraudulent scam artist.

Complaint: Went over the limit by $1.90 one month, got a statement dated June 26 with a payment due date = July 21. I sent the payment in on time and it included the minimum payment and the $35.00 overlimit fee. Trouble is these modern day scam artist add another overlimit fee to my account on July 14, one week before the bill was even due. Another thing to be aware of if you are thinging of hooking up with this company is the lagtime in their mail. They printed a notice for me, letting me now they were screwing me twice in one month, dated July 14 and I got it in my mail box on July 27. That's 13 day's. Now I know the USPS, even during holiday's, has never been that slow. I'm telling you, these people at HSBC Card Services are "in the business of charging you $35.00 fee's". Complaint_against: Orchard Bank AKA HSBC Card Services

Complaint: I too have had problems with Orchard Bank And Chase. You call their phone number to see how much credit you have and they tell you on the automated system. And yet when you use it. your over the limit and they want to charge you.  So far they have taken off the fees, but it still isn't right. And also the yearly fees put you over the limit. So you have to watch every bill to see when your fee is to be taken out. I don't believe the fees should put you over the limit. I don't believe the interest charges should put you over the limit either and then be charged extra for it. And if you cancel your cards they charge you a fee every month greater than the yearly fee.

Complaint:
Also, having problems with Orchard bank.  (I have two accounts with them.)
Complaint # 1:
My employer paid me my  1/1/07 paycheck early.  (This is customary with this employer to help with the Christmas Holiday expenses.)  On December 16th I mailed much larger than normal payments to each of these accounts and one of the payments would pay off all the balance in one of the accounts.  The automated system confirmed receipt of both payments on Dec. 22, but the account with the paid off balance was saying I had only 95.00 credit available.  I immediately contacted a CSR (Wendy) to see if this was an error.  She said the payment actually was received on 12/23, but that large payments go through a 2-3 business day authorization process to make sure the funds are actually available in my bank account.  I called again on 12/27, and the story was similar.  Now I was told the authorization process would take longer, because of the holidays.  (This was rather fishy, because my bank was showing the check clearing as an electronic check on 12/26 and they told me electronic !
checks clear same day and that they show availability of funds that day.  Why was it not put through when they received it on 12/23/07?  And why was it not posted to my account until 12/28/06 after clearing my bank as a electronic check on the 26th? My total Orchard Bank balance on that account did not become available to me until 12/28/06.
Complaint # 2
( I was attempting to decrease my number of credit.) On Dec. 23, I called to try to get these accounts merged into one.   I could not get a straight answer about the interest or credit line.  The sales person was pressuring me greatly to process this request without giving me information about the rate of interest or the credit line. (Why could they not just merge the two credit lines?)   I finally told them not to process it and hung up.
Complaint # 3
I talked to a CSR, because a statement of my account was not sent for this billing period.  (This has happened on several billing periods since my account was opened.  I give them updated info if I move in a very timely manner and my mail is forwarded with the USPS.)
Complaint # 4
I made a payment by mail on my other Orchard bank account on 1/20/07.  ( Yesterday I talked to the CSR to ask for a statement for this billing period and I noticed that my payment has not been posted on this account, yet.  (My payment is due 2/3/07 according to the automated information.)   I asked the CSR to note that payment had been sent on the 20th.  The CSR pressured me to call by 1/31 and post a payment online to avoid a late payment if had not been received by then.  I am fearful that the payment with be posted late...since ...they were so late about posting a payment in December 06.  I do not want to give out info to pay online, and why should I have to make a second payment or pay over the phone fees to pay by phone.  I wish they would just be more honest about when they receive payments.

Complaint_against: Orchard Bank - Master Card

Complaint:
Orchard offered me a Master Card with a 300 dolars limit late 2005. I used the card a couple of time and paid it off.  I did not use the card for around three months, and when I tried to use again it did not go thru.  I called customer service and they could not tell me what happened.  I tried to use again around a month after, but the card did not work one more time. This is happening at the beginning of 2006 and at this point I noticed that I was not getting mail from them, therefore I am thinking that they closed the account and did not even inform me.
I moved to a new addres in August 2006 and have still as of today all my mail forwarded from my old address to the new one. Still no mail from Orchard.
In Feb 09 I called customer service to find out whatever happened with the account. Their customer service rep told me that the account was on hold because I did not pay the membership charges which were processed in November 2006, but yet the card is not working since early 2006 and I am not receiving any statement from them and they have no evidence of me trying to use the card twice or the conversation I had with customer service.
After talking with someone in the cancellation department, we agreed to me paying the membership fee when receiving the statement and all late charges were going to be romoved.
I just received a statement that indicates that I made a purchase for 140.46, which 13.26 are being charged on the same day I was talking to them on the phone for 4 statements copy fees that I did not request or received.  I did not have any balance with them, therefore I had no reason to order any statements.  We were discussing membership fee wich is $39.99.  I just called them again, and they say that is what I owe withoug explaining to me how is possible that a 39.99 membership that was "charged" in November could reach the amount of 137.95 three month later.  I guess their late fee is a 300+%, and the statement does not states that this charge is for the membership. Let's no forget the satatement copies that I did not received or order, and like if that wasn't enough, they sent the information to the credit report agencies. I have credit cards with CapitalOne and USAA and never had a problem. I regreat and always will, accepting this crapy credit card.
I you want to save money, your credit and a headache, DO NOT GO TO ORCHARD.

Complaint: Filled out the application through the mail, to build my credit. Had an annual fee-I agreed to it. Recieved a bill that had a 3.57 charge for "ACCOUNT SECURE PLUS" on it after the first month. Called to cancel it and tried to talk to a non english speaking individual, was pretty sure he canceled it, WRONG! Called again after another bill and was told to call the number next to the charge. Called it only to speak to another person that did not speak english fluently. Same charge showed again the next month. Called again and it was finally canceled for good but could not rather would not reimburse my account for the charges.  Card was stolen and I immediatly called to cancel, no fraudulent charges as a result.  Waited for a new card bout 3 weeks, never received a bill for the monththat the card was stolen, got online and accessed my account to find a past due payment and fee of 30 dollars. Called and spoke with a alien from outer space who tried to pass off as an In!
dia native who spoke a little english.  Told it that I had not received a bill in the mail, It told me to check with my posel ofise I told it you mean postal office right? He said yes. I said why would one bill not come but all the others including the new credit card and all of Orchard Banks junk mail?  He would do nothing until I paid the minimum payment so i did. Then he said he would take the 30 dollar charge off. Never did happen still have the 30 dollar late fee on my account. I requested a copy of that months bill it said no probleem. Look at my statement today and I have a 3.00 charge for copy of that months bill.  I'm taking this to the top and every employee affiliated with Orchard Bank that I encounter will want to quit their job and possibly commit suicide by the time I get off the phone with them.

Complaint:
We've had an Orchard Bank credit card for about 3 months.  The credit limit is $300.  We are using this credit card as a means of improving credit that tanked while we were supporting a parent until they recently died of cancer.  We've never been late on an Orchard Bank  payment and never come close to exceeding the credit limit.   In fact, every time we charge something on the card, we pay it down to zero the very next day, via the internet.
Yesterday morning my husband left on a business trip to Denver.  Upon landing, he checked in with the rental car company (Budget) and tried to pay for his car reservation with a MasterCard we've used for 2 years.  Budget told him that they considered the card a Debit Card and would not accept it as payment.  It had $500 available funds.  We've used this card at every hotel we've ever stayed at and at Enterprise Rental without a problem.
Although we had not intended to use the Orchard Bank card, my husband gave Budget the Orchard card.   Budget told him he was $24 short of having the $200 available credit that they required for car rental.  That actually was not correct.  We really had $300 available credit.  Orchard Bank, however, showed we had $176 available credit.  They had not credited the $124 internet (priority) payment we'd already made  - a payment that had already been deducted from our bank.
My husband called me collect (his cell wouldn't work at the airport) and asked me to call Orchard Bank and see if they would fix this.  I called them, explained that we had an emergency and asked them to update the account so that my husband could rent the car.  They said they'd have to talk to him since it was his name on the card.
My husband called Orchard Bank, explained the problem he was having and asked if they could update the account to show the payment that had already been deducted from our checking account so that he could rent the car.  They put him through to a supervisor.  The supervisor refused my husband's request.  My husband then asked if they could increase his credit limit by $24 so that the credit card would show an available credit of $200.
Orchard Bank refused to increase his limit by $24 so that he could rent the car.  He was stuck at the airport.
After several hours we finally got in touch with a friend who left his work in the middle of the day and pick up my husband.
When I found out that they did not help my husband, I called Orchard Bank and issued a complaint.  How could a supervisor leave someone sitting in a airport?  An emergency that could have been rectified by an update of our payment or $24 credit increase.  Neither of us want to be associated with a company who employs people who are either not authorized to deal with $24 or are so morally derelict that they cannot empathize in an emergency and act on that empathy.
Orchard Bank's only response to my complaint was that since my name was not on the card my husband would have to be the person to ask them to close our account.
Today, while viewing our account on the internet, I discovered that THEY CHARGED OUR ACCOUNT $10 FOR TALKING WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE YESTERDAY!  Oh, and 24 hours after we needed them to do so, they credited our payment.  Our available credit is, in fact, $300.

This is my latest communication with Orchard Bank:  Am thrilled to hear class action suits are being filed and am closing my account immediately and let them sue me...I am the one being defrauded! TO ORCHARD BANK  10 March 2007
I cannot believe that a letter sent from a Burlingame, San Mateo post office in California to Industrial City in California has still not arrived.  Now you tell me to allow 10 days but your information online says 7 days.  This is the second time I have sent a payment to Orchard Bank and it has not been credited to me.
You said the first online payment had the wrong number.  Please send me a copy of the transaction from online.  Now you tell me you have not received a payment using a check with the same number.  However, I have made a 424 dollar car payment every month since April 2006 on time, and a 1269. dollar rent check on time using those same checks and nothing has ever been disputed.
My checks are not returned to me because I do not have a 'paper' account. Does anyone?  They are simply deducted from my online account.
I cannot pay you online because you cannot offer a service like everyone else in which I simply give you my VISA card
number and pay that every month.  I gave you the number from the only checks I have and you said it was wrong. My name was changed from Hoegerle to Ferriter in October 2006 by a San Mateo court.  No other  banking institution seems to have trouble with that.  Perhaps that is where the problem lies with you.
I did not have bad credit when I applied for Orchard Bank's card.  I simply was considered as having had no credit because I had not lived in this country for more than 15 years and arrived on 8 March 2006 (at which time I deposted 50 thousand dollars in Bank of the West, then switched to Bank of America some months later...I could not get credit then either, probably because of my age...no discrimination in the USA...tell me another one! Welcome back to America...)
You are the only bank which literally gives me nightmares and although I joined Orchard Bank to get good credit, I fear you are the only one who will give me a bad rating!
It seems to me as though Orchard Bank earns from the horrendous extra fees it charges, rather than from the payments made, by making payment more complicated and confuse.  Please inform me as to what amount in total I will have to pay to exit your bank as quickly as possible and I will return your card to you.  If it had not had a labrador on it, I probably would not have chosen Orhard Bank. This whole escapade has raised my already dangerously high blood pressure, given me sleepless nights, and greatly affected my work. Bernadette Ferriter

Most of the complaints on this site are from idiots who either can't read or refuse to. While I understand there are legitimate complaints, like bad customer service...I have been a member for 3 years and I've honestly never had a complaint. Yes, I hate the high fees, interest rate, etc...but I also understand, that with my credit rating, it was all I could get. And my credit rating has gone UP since being with them due to being diligent to pay on time, keep a low balance and understanding how the program works. I appreciate that there are companies who will give people with bad credit...a chance to have credit and repair their credit over time. Since being a member, I've been given further opportunities to have credit...and this is accomplished by not taking an opportunity like Orchard Bank...and screwing that up, as well.
Yes, they exploit people with bad credit...but it's not THERE fault. It's the customer's fault for allowing themselves to be taken advantage of. Take some personal responsibility and know what your signing....know what you are paying...and take charge of your own life.

Like everyone else, I too found out that Orchard Bank sucks.  I have been making payments by phone and paying the $12.95 fee.  All my payments were posted to my account in 2-3 days.  However,  when I tried to pay off the card in full,  the payment was put on hold even though they took the funds from my bank days earlier.  I talked to an account manager and told her to close the account.  She tells me she will remove the hold if I keep the account open.  I refused and told to confirm that I chose to close the account and not them.  She didn't want to do this.  Fortunately, I convinced her to say the account was being closed at my request.  I then told her the entire conversation was taped.  She didn't like that SallySue.  I turned the matter over to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency for investigation and would advise every one to do the same.  They are the organization that oversees corrupt banks.  Please contact them so these scum--gs can get what they deserve.
I hope my account manager reads this so I can use the tape against her.

I canceled this card because they would hold my payments for ten days before applying them to the account.
At the time I canceled there was a $90  credit.  I assumed that like most reputable businesses, a refund would be forthcoming.  After 90 days I realized I still had the outstanding credit and had never received a check.  When I called today I was told that their policy on a closed account is to hold the credit until a refund was REQUESTED -- on a closed account!
Is it even legal to hold those funds like that? Regardless, it's an awful bad faith policy to retain funds that don't belong to them.

Complaint: Orchard Bank is HORRIBLE and they are scam artists. I had a Mastercard through Orchard Bank and fell behind on payments due to my husband being out of work. I had insurance on the card but it would not help with the payments, they found every excuse in the book not to pay. After I had been behind for too long they called and wanted me to do a settlement agreement which included closing the account.  I agreed to a settlement amount and agreed to pay them six monthly payments . These payments had to be debited from my checking account. All six payments were withdrawn by Orchard Bank. About one month after the last payment was made I received a letter from Orchard Bank that stated that I was late on a payment and the settlement agreement was no longer valid. What??? How could I be late when they were the ones debiting the amount from the account? When I called them to inquire about the letter they told me again that I was late on one payment so it voided the agreement. I argued with them that THEY debited the payments! They were uncooperative and refused to back off their claim of a payment being late. I started receiving constant collection calls from them again. Each time I would have to explain the problem and I would be transfered to a collection manager. I would have to explain the situation once again. The first few times that I discussed the situation with them they stated they would turn it over for correction but the collection calls only continued. The last time I talked to them they now have changed their story. They are telling me I never had a settlement agreement. They have added all the interest, late fees, etc. back on the account and want the money in full. I'm arguing with them that I did indeed have a settlement agreement and I made the payments for it. They are now trying to tell me it was not a settlement agreement but a "catch-up" agreement. I told them it most certainly was not as I had agreed to a settlement agreement and to have the account closed. This company is using shady tactics to keep bleeding people for more money. They are a very bad company to deal with.

Complaint_against: Account Secure Plus / Orchard Bank

Complaint: I would never ever recommend Orchard Bank or Acoount Secure Plus.  I have has an Orchard Bank Card for close to 2 years now and never missed a payment. I also insured the card with Account Secure Plus as offered by Orchard.  In December 2006, I went thru a job layoff and activated my Account Secure Plus Benefits.  I was told the review process would take 7-10 days that turned in to over a month.  I received a letter denying insurance on both my Orchard cards that were covered and was told I needed a letter from the State Employment Office that I had filed for unemployment.  I provided this and another month went by and they needed more information.  I called and had a letter faxed to me that I then sent to Account Secure Plus 2 more times.  It now May 2007 and no insurance coverage. I called at lease 40 times talking to Supervisors and was told that it is still being reviewed.  What ever happen to 7-10 days. Now each time I call in I'm told they will send in a referral to who ever is reviewing my case.  Finally on April 4th, 4 months later my insurance is approved but guess what, someone at Account Secure did not cover the other card that I have that was listed on the same application and same case number.  I called to talk to a Supervisor and told him that this was listed correctly on my application sent in December.  He claimed that my account number was list wrong however, I told him this was not true since I was holding a copy of the original application I sent in.  I even had confirmed this with one of Account Secures Customer Representatives.  During the whole time I was making minimum payments on my account and Orchard continued to charge me penalties for over the limit.  They also bumped me up to a 28% interest rate due to mistakes made by Account Secure.  Finally after many more calls my second card was finally approved on May 10th though I cannot understand why the delay since they were looking at the exact information from! my first card for approval.  Orchard or HSBC owns Account Secure and believe me, the insurance company is truely a scam.  I am back to work now but thought I'm approved, Account Secure Plus still has not paid on my credit card.  Just to mention, I have a Capital One Card that I insured and they were absolutely great in covering my card during this time.  I would highly recomment Capital One but never would I recommend Orchard Bank or Account Secure Plus insurance.

Just like some of you-their good at saying your payment is late and therefore their sorry that they cannot return your security to you.
I have written them-telling them to close my account and notify all three credit bureaus that my account is closed & paid by consumer.  Instead I noticed that they went into my credit report as an inquiry 4-5 times.  I received 2-letters stating that they cannot give me a unsecured credit card which I did not ask for.  I told them that I want my security back.  They have had it since 1996.
I am now going to an attorney and we'll see who wins.  THEY'RE FRAUDS AND A CLASS ACTION SUIT I WILL START!!!!

I signed up for online payments with my Orchard Bank Mastercard.  Since opening the card last fall to now I have had no problems with the card.  I enetered my bank routing number and account number correctly online, double checking it against my check and you also have to enter the information twice so both posts match.  I hit enter.  My due date was May 20th.  Payment made May 17th.  Confirmation of payment received May 22nd.  I paid the balance in full.  May 26th - I go to use the card for a small purchase; purchase denied.  I called my bank and they had not received any debiting information from Orchard Bank.  I called Orchard and after talking to several overseas customer service folks, was advised my payment did not go through and the informatoin provided was incorred.  I logged onto the website.  The last 4 digits of my checking account were off by one digit.  It was not the information I entered into the website.  I spent a few hours on the phone trying to find out what happened here and was advised I entered the information correctly, plus the customer service folks were definately overseas and you just cannot get anywhere with them.  So needless to say, I now have a $15 late fee for payment not received on time; $15 late fee charged because the information was incorrect and $12.95 to send in an instant payment which posted immediately for me, 7 days after my due date.  If  had known this took place I could have had the payment in on time.  They did not post this information until 2 days after my due date the the payment did not go through and I had no knowledge of it until 5/25.  No email although I have all notification email response choices clicked to receive all notifications of everything.  I am calling a supervisory person on Tuesday after the holiday is over to try to get this resolved.  I believe the numbers were changed on their end, either by their own system or when entered by them to initiate payment.  I stand firm by what!   I entered on line and had my husband here when I did it to confirm all entered information as correct, with a blank check righit in front of us for all correct routing and account numbers.  Has anyone run into a number changing situation with this bank?  I am amazed they put in for the payment on 5/17.  It would have been denied immediately.  They did not post the information on my account as to being "incorrect" until 5/22.  What does that tell you?  Did they delay it for two business days and the weekend to get the extra fees?

I along with numerous other customers have just been notified that Orchard Bank is raising our interest rates. Mine personally is going from 22.9 to 29.9%.  This bank knew I had past credit problems when they gave me a card 2 years ago, and now they are telling me that because of info on my credit report, they are raising my rate. My credit report is better than 2 yrs ago and I have always paid Orchard Bank on time.  I contacted the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), Customer Assistance Group (CAG).  CAG answers questions and assists consumers in resolving complaints against national banks.
Basically they told me that a bank can change your agreement at any time as long as they notify you. So the bottom line is that Orchard Bank can rip us off as much as they want as long as they put it in writing and notify us!
What a shame that we can be ripped off like this and there is no one that will try to help us or put some constraints on these people!

Complaint_against: Orchard Bank Master Card Billing

Complaint: Last year to re-establish credit I opened an Master Card Account with Orchard Bank.  Even though the membership fees and start up fees were large, I was told this was a one time thing and if I made timely monthly payments my credit limit would be raised every six months.  I use the small credit limit of $250.00 and have just made low steady payments this past year to create a good credit standing.  This past month I made my normal payment which was never applied on time.  It was applied a week late and my account was accessed for a late payment fee of $30.00 and all the origination fees were also placed againist my account at the same time.  When I contacted Orchard Bank they told me that those fees apply each and every year and to date they have never increased my credit limit.  I feel because these fees were due a week after my payment was due, that they held back the payment to increase the charges on my account.  I have never had a payment with them before and!
now I owe a minimun payment of $140.00 instead of my $15.00 to $20.00 normal payments and they are going to put a bad credit rating againist me also.  How do you fight something like this?  Who else can I complain to?  What are my options?  I have closed the account and asked they to drop these new fees this year but they have refused.  I feel as though they have committed fraud againist me.

Complaint: Under no circumstance should you ever allow Orchard Bank to issue you a credit card.  This is one of the biggest scams in the credit card industry and it gives a bad name to regular credit card companies. Process is to lure you into their card primairly because you have a hard time getting one anywhere else.  Usually low limit.  Penalities and charges are outrages.  Very dificult to get paid off when the cycle begins.  Expect to pay two or three times what you borrow if you can get out.  How about a $30 late charge etal etal.

Complaint:
I cancelled my card with this company last month - I should have done it a long time ago.  Shame on me.  I should have closed it when I notice that they took the 'left over' monies from my over payment to them.  What happend was this, appoproximately 10 months ago I received a statement from them and I was getting ready to go on vacation.  I receive my bills at home and paid them from the office.  Well I left the bill at home by accident and I was leaving for vacation right after work.  So, having read the statement I knew that it was more than $65 but less than $66.  So I paid the higher amount of $66 to cover the full balance owed.  I then received a statement from them reflecting my overpayment of $0.16 (yes sixteen cents)- a week later I received a statement from them indicating that the statement that they previously sent was erroneous and that my account balance was now $0.00.   Yes, they stole/took my $0.16 over payment.  I should of closed it then but I figured what!'s sixteen cents?  You can't even buy a postage stamp with sixteen cents.  Then, three months ago I received a statement from them with a charge on it to some 'pamper me club' service.  I immediately called and told them I wasn't interested in their service and to credit my account.  The charge was for $85.00 and it was the only charge on the statement for that month with a zero previous balance.  I had received written confirmation from this 'pamper me club' that they had credited my account and had received the same prior to my payment due date on the credit card.  The next month to my horror, there was a past due fee of $29.00, even though there was no balance due because they received the credit from the 'pamper me club'.  So I called them to inquire about the $29.00 past due fee; and was told that 'credits' are not treated as 'payments.'  Thus because I didn't make a monetary 'payment' on my account (even though the credit balance zeroed out my balance on account with them) they had to charge me the 'past due fee.'  Why would I make a monetar!
y payment on a zero account balance??  Prior experience has shown me that they were just going to keep it anyway.   THIS CARD IS NOT WORTH THE HEADACHE THAT IS ASSOCIATED WITH DEALING WITH THIS COMPANY.  So, if you have hours to spend on the phone with account representatives to miromanage your account (which is their responsiblity to begin with) then by all means - go for it.  However, if you can find better ways to spend your time - STAY AWAY.  SERIOUSLY, THE STOLE $0.16 FROM AN ACCOUNT HOLDER - WITH NO OTHER EXPLANATION THAN THEY MADE AN ACCOUNTING ERROR.  There was no "error" it was an over payment.

Complaint: My wife and I recieved a platinum card from this rip off company. We paid our bill on time for nearly a year. We missed a deadline by 2 days and our advertised APR went from 9.9% to 30%. I did read the terms and conditions,Ms. Customer Service Rep. No where does my terms state my interest rate goes to 30%. Also, because of the interest rate my payment amount skyrocketed and went over my limit by $2.00. Guess what, now they have a $30.00 fee for that. Oh yeah don't forget my payment is late so there is another $30.00 fee for that. Oh by the way, it's accuring 30% interest DAILY. What the????? I never signed up for this. Now that my payment is a week late, they are calling at my work many times. I closed the account and told them numerous times why. Now, there is a $5.00 fee a month for them handling a closed account....False Advertisement and their $8.00 customer service reps are now being snotty and rude to a customer who paid perfectly on time till now. HOUSEHOLD BANK credit cards are the WORST of the BAD credit card companies.  All that you have read here about them is true.  I ordered a picket fence from Fence Patrol of Lancaster PA, a BIG mistake it turns out, since the company failed to install the fence or return my calls.  I requested a chargeback of my deposit of $1,500, HBC declined after asking for document after document until they finally found something I didn't have, a "cancellation policy" (as if it would be my fault the company didn't give me a cancellation policy. These guys are BAD, BAD NEWS and you are better off with NO card than with them.

Beneficial / HSBC Finance Corp., is a major player in the credit industry and provider of predatory loans such as live-check loans which are mailed, unsolicited, to customers with bad credit.  The customer, simply by cashing it, takes out a poorly advised loan at an outrageous rate.  I suppose if you're desperate, an unsolicited check showing up one day for thousands of dollars, is like manna from heaven!  Out of nowhere one day, I received a collection call from Beneficial informing me that I needed to start paying back a loan for several thousands of dollars.  I informed the gentleman that I had never done business with his firm.  Apparently, someone who lives over 100 miles away from me had apparently received a live-check loan, and cashed it.  The check was in my name and tied to my Social Security number.  The collection agent was able to read me my own ss# and refused to listen to my claims of fraud.  I asked to whom had the live check been sent and when had it been requested?  He said it was in my name, gave some unknown mailing address and he told me that "no one requests these loan checks. They are mailed out as a "service" to those who are felt to meet Beneficial's criteria for such a loan...", without the customers request or knowledge.  Repeated attempts to get their fraud department to file a fraud claim met with lies from their staff, disconnects from being on hold for hours and refusal of their collection agents to say anything except "...when are you going to pay, sir..?"  The calls only ceased when I got the attorney general's office to contact them.  The whole mess took about 5 months to clear up and I still don't know how much damage has been done since they compromised my personal info.  The entire ordeal cost me about 48 straight hours of personal time to fix.  Nightmare.  HSBC provides credit cards for Best Buy, Bon-Ton, CompUSA, Costco, Helzberg Diamonds, Neiman Marcus, Saks, Sony, Yamaha and many more, so keep this in mind when you sign up for credit offers.

Complaint:
If you see Orchard Bankcard coming, RUN!  I had applied for one of those "Easy-can-get" online bankcard loans from Orchard Bankcard -- too much month left and not enough money.  I was denied.  Fine, I decided to tighten my belt one more notch, make do, and wait for the next pay day.  For those who don't know it, when you apply to one of these seemingly reputable banking services, they require your name, social security number, bank routing and account number, your right arm and leg, and your first-born child.  Armed with my personal information, Orchard Bankcard was able to do whatever they damn well pleased . . . and they did.A couple days later I checked my checking account and dicscovered an unauthorized Direct Debit of $500.00 had been made.  I'll give you one guess as to who made this withdrawal from my account.  You've got it!  Orchard Bankcard, of their own volition, had taken $500.00 from my checking account. Now even if I had been approved for the monies I had requested, I know of no reason or of no bankcard institution that would find it necessary to debit my checking account of any money at all.  I wasn't even asking for $500.00!  Orchard Bankcard fraudulently withdrew money from my checking account!I contacted Orchard Bankcard and they seemed to have no record of an account for anyone with my name, address, or social security number.  I "Googled" every variation of Orchard Bankcard I could think of, called every one of them, ane not one of them had a record of my name or SSN.  That was enough.  I called the Better Business Bureau.  They can take care of Orchard Bankcard.  In the mean time, I raced to my bank to close my account and open a new account.  (If Orchard Bankcard could make an unauthorized withdrawal from my account once, they could surely do it second time.) So the moral of the story is:     1) Budget and manage your money well.
     2) Stay clear of the "Quicky Loan" bankcard offers.     3) DON'T EVER trust Orchard Banking institutions of any kind. The frosting on the cake; the following day I received an email from Orchard Bankcard inviting me to apply for their Bankcard Mastercard.  Can you beat that? Buyer beware!

I have had this account since Oct. 06. My original APR was 14.9. I used the card a few times and I beleive in Dec. or Jan 07 I shred it. I have a $300 limit with a $79 Annual Fee. Everything was fine until about May 07 I looked at my bill and my APR was increased from 14.9 to 29.99. I have my payments automatically set up to debit my checking account a few days before the due date. I have never been late, never missed a payment and have never been overlimit, and have not used the card since Dec. or Jan. I also make more than the minimum payment. I have asked them why on phone call and by email and all I get is "You were sent a notice in the mail" I then asked them "Was there an introductory that I wasnt aware of?"
I also told them that if I find out they checked my credit after my inital application that it is against the law because I am not being offered nor an I requesting and increase in limit.
I'm not really getting anywhere with this company and my last email I sent them they responded...
"Dear Mary Williams,
We understand your concern regarding the interest rate.  This message is

We received your request for a reduced Annual Percentage Rate; however, a lower rate is currently not available.

I mailed payments to this card over 7 days ago, preparing to take a trip.  Never dawned on me that they would get the money, then still hold my account for another week plus!!!  The payments CLEARED my account 5 days ago, cleared, they have the money, not me.   Yet they REFUSE to credit my account.  So, they are earning interest on my money, AND olding off showing the payment so they can hit me with more interest fees.  I would love to know what else I can do, and who else I can report them to just to join the many trying to make their life miserable.  Talking to them does no good whatsoever.

Complaint: Orchard Bank (HSBC) continues to apply my POSTED payments as 'pending charges' (less $1.00) for up to 10 days.  As such, I sometimes cannot use my card at all as it adds rather than subtracts the payments, thereby putting me 'over the limit'.  On top of that, Orchard then reports the 'overlimit' status (derived from my PAYMENTS that are 'charged' to my account) to the CRA's.  This can't be legal, can it????

I purchased some jewelry at a home showing for Jewels by Park Lane (NOTE:  DONT EVERY BUY ANYTHING FROM THEM -- it is CRAP!).  Unknown to me at the time of purchase, Park Lane's policy is no cash refunds after 30 days.  My jewelry SUCKED -- 5 stones fell out of a ring within 5 weeks and they supposedly offer Lifetime Guarantee.  Yeah well I don't want their crappy a%% jewelry.  I sent it back and they refused to issue me a credit back to my Orchard Bank card.  So I filed a dispute with Orchard Bank and sent them all documentation and they dismissed my claim saying that I should have known the merchant policy! WTF????  I thought that by using my credit cards, I have some additional consumer protection!!  JEWELS by PARK LANE completely sucks.  Their stuff is 100% gumball machine stuff and they don't uphold their lifetime guarantee.  I sent their crap back via insured mail and have proof by USPS that they got it.  Now I am out $98 (thanks to ORCHARD BANK) and have NOTHING to s!
how for that $$.  I paid off my Orchard Bank card and clearly will never see my $98 from them again.
ORCHARD SUCKS and so does Jewels by Park Lane!

Complaint: BEWARE!! I recieved a promotion from them in the mail advertising NO BALANCE TRANFER FEE. I signed up online for the card for a balance transfer because the form stated if they could not pay off the whole balance they would contact me. Then I get a letter days later with the card saying they only paid "as requested" $850!! I NEVER REQUESTED THAT LITTLE!! I requested more like $7,700. I called them and they said not only could they not fix it but there was also a BALANCE TRANSFER FEE! But in the mail I saw there was NO BALANCE TRANSFER FEE. I have had a Capital One, Discover and VISA and have never had a problem with being ripped off. I trusted they would be similar but they LIE LIE LIE. I closed the account but not before hearing lame excuses and a ridiculous option to increase the limit on the card from 1,000 to 1,200.         NO THANKS!!

Complaint: I have been a HSBC cardholder since 2006. I called them today to request that my APR be lowered from a variable 17.99% to something comparable to my other credit card APRs (8.9%, 11.14%, 12.9%) and they refused. I have never been late on a payment, and tend to pay more than the minimum each month. Ended up cancelling the card and will be paying it off, I'm very happy that the other HSBC card I have (it's a Household Bank card) is PAID OFF... won't be using that ever again, and won't ever give HSBC any kind of business. It's a shame that such a huge company that has a ton of money has no interest in providing customer service to good customers.

Complaint: What ever you do, dont get an Orchard Bank credit card or HSBC. It is the most horrible company I have ever dealt with. I paid them 3 payments of 60.00 with in 3 weeks and they are holding 2 of them because they are waiting for them to clear, however they have gone through my checking account. I tried to call customer service which by the way is just as bad... the girl I was talking to said she declinded to release these holds even after I offered to fax my bank statement to them showing they went through. The customer service rep. told me that she couldnt help me anymore because thats the way it was and she couldnt do anything about it, I told her I wanted to speak with someone else and she said there wasnt anybody else to talk to and that she was going to disconnect our conversation because there were other customers on hold waiting to speak with her. I tried to email the customer service to get this issue corrected and they are just as bad too, no help what so !
ever. I also sent a letter the supposed corporate office but no response back yet. If anybody want to get a credit card whatever you do DO NOT go through ORchard Bank. I am nervous to cancel my account after reading other complaints about the problems they have had trying to cancel their accounts. ORCHARD BANK IS FRAUDULENT AND EVERYTHING ABOUT THEM IS HORRIBLE!!!!

Complaint:
I received a preapproval piece in the mail and decided I should apply since it was a 0% APR on transfers til 2009, I had a few cards I wanted to transfer the balances over to save on interest. I have a Cap1 with $20k CL, Merrill Visa with $15k, Chase with $10k, Citi with $22500 CL, and Bank of America with $25500 CL, all in very good standing and still plenty of credit left. My chase however is what bothers me because the interest went up like 18% and more than half of my minimum due each month for chase was interest alone. So I thought I give Household Bank a shot and hopefully transfer my chase balance over and close my chase account.  Well, after applying online using my pre-approval code, and me having a credit score well above 770 and making over $100k a year, I thought I was going to get a good CL. What I got was a joke. They approved me of only $750, hahhahahaha!!! I'm gonna call them and just laugh, not say anything, just laugh, hahahahaha! Cause they are a joke, as soon as the card gets here, I'm canceling it. Sucks how you can't find out your CL until after applying. I would've never applied for this P.O.S. knowing how low this CL was going to be.   So in my opinion, this is a piss poor bank, an absolute joke. I'll just transfer my chase balance to one of cards even though the transfer APR isn't 0%, as long as its better than the rising 18% card. hahahahaha Household Bank is such a joke, don't even bother with them. PLEASE just stay away from them, for your own good. hahahaha $750 CL with a credit score near 800.

Complaint: I recently applied for a credit card from house hold bank and I requested a balance transfer from my discover card for 8,500.00. household bank only approved me for a credit limit of 1,000.00. so there was no way to transfer 8,500.00, but they just went ahead and transfered $850.00 all on there own without even asking me first, theny just sent me a letter saying that it has been transfered, so I called them to tell them they made a mistake and they need to fix it and they said there was nothing they can do about it. they never had my premission to do the transfer. Isn't this illegal to just authorize something like this without getting the card holders premission first??????

AN OPEN LETTER TO ORCHARD BANK:
Thank you for issuing me a card a few years back when my credit was low.  However, since then my low $500 credit limit has stayed the same as well as my industry high 31% interest rate.  Trouble is, my credit score has gone from the 500's to now 720.  I was told time and time again that my account would be reviewed and adjusted.  It never was.  Sorry losers, you don't have my business now.  Your "retension specialist" didn't even do too much to keep me around.  Basically, I'm a number to you, aren't I?  You're not interested in building lasting business relationships are you?  Well, suffice to say I'm very happy with my new card...A $12,000 credit limit at 12%.  Too bad, so sad, bye bye. Complaint: HSBC sucks, I have or should I say had a Platinum Master Card with them up until 4/10/08.I had this account for approx 8 years never late and over the past year (up until Oct 07) had been making almost double the minimum payments. I called to get a lower rate and they say they could lower 1% in the next three month and then I could ask again. So I paid off the balance and yesterday I received a letter stating they closed the account due to inactivity. In truth I hadn't used this card three times in the past 3years and not at all in the last year. So much for trying to keep a card around for emergencies. Now I know if I had left a decent balance on this carad they would have never closed this account. So I called and spoke to several people and they all basicaly said all you can do is re-apply but the account would not stay open in I didn't use it. I know this sounds like a bunch of whining but to just close it without contacting me first is 1st class BS, their cus!

Complaint: It is very funny to read all of your responses. It sounds to me like none of you are very saavy with credit cards or credit. HSBC does not "hold" your payments. Have you heard of "snail mail?" Who trusts the US Post Office to get anything there on time?! Also, banks are subject to change your terms when your payment is late, something negative is reporte to credit bureau etc. Plus all banks are different on posting times and online payments have to be made at least 2-3 days in advance and if you read your terms when you enrolled online you would know that. Why don't you take some responsibility for yourselves? Also, those charges for those travel things where you cash the checks for $5 it specifically states where you sign your name that you are enrolling in the program which is through a different company and that they will charge you. Grow up people and take responsibility!

Complaint_against: Not A Complaint

Complaint: Not a complaint just a BIG THANK YOU! I was a single mother for many years and ran into several financial set backs. As of the last 3-4 years I have worked hard at building my credit back up and have been offered at least 5 different credit cards from banks that are on the up and up. I received an application from the CROOKS a.k.a. Merrick Bank and for some reason (unlike none of the other offers) I felt like I should look them up. I thank God I used that woman intuition thing and look them up. I will make sure that I let everyone I know about this company and do all I can to make sure as many people as possible stay away from Merrick. If you are looking to rebuild your credit try looking into Tribute, Bank of America or HCBC/Orchard Bank. These are ones that have been very good and have served me well.

Complaint: Always pay in full and on time. My account closes the 6th each month and I just received bill on the 5/19. Payment due 5/26 (Memorial Day and a mail holiday). Complained that one week is just a scam for cc company to charge late fees ($35). Was told I could pay by phone ($15 fee for this privilege). How nice! I had been scheduled to be out of town 5/19-5/21 so I got lucky. I was looking for the bill no later than 5/16. They are just trying to trap people anyway they can. Told me the billing goes out the 6th but the postal system is the problem. BS deluxe. I will mail my payment the 5/20 and I predict my check will clear 5/23. The postal system is good handling my mailings but evidently not so good getting my cc bill to me. Can't think of any reputable business (electric, gas, phone, etc) that has trouble getting my bill to me in a timely manner which allows me a couple of weeks to pay. What a scam!

Complaint_against: HSBC/ Orchard Bank Credit Card

Complaint: Dear HSBC/ Orchard Bank Credit Card, I am trying to rebuild my credit after some mistakes I made when I was 18. I want to buy a home and be approved for a mortgage when I find my dream home, this is why I accepted your "pre-screened credit card offer". I have been loyally using your card for almost a year, I charge things then I make every effort to pay them off. I guess paying off credit card balances before they incur finance charges makes me a BAD customer, no money in your pocket huh? Back in February I made an online payment via your electronic payment system. All my account information was saved in "your system" so I just clicked "submit payment" and that was it! It was so easy and convenient till I found out you never collected payment from my bank account. You said the payment was declined! I checked with my bank to see why the payment wasn't processed, turns out you didn't submit my full account number when collecting payment. My full account number is saved in "your system" and has worked every other time I have made a payment so what is the issue? I write to billing disputes and question this error, no response from you! Good thing I sent my query via certified mail now I have proof you are a jerk! I also call and email your company but am told the insufficient funds fee on my account will not be removed. You made an error with my account number, I didn't- it's not my error it is yours! Next I contact consumer action and they recommend I write someone more important so I send another certified letter disputing my insufficient funds fee that nobody answers... Oh, look! I just got hit with a late fee on that account for not paying the amount I have been disputing for the last 4 months! How lovely, it just shows how you will stop at nothing to screw your bill paying customers. If we are not racking up charges we cannot afford to pay you are just going to play games with our payments to ensure you are making money huh? Guess it doesn't matter if you are a responsible consumer or not, ultimately the credit card companies just want to screw you! I'll just have to warn everyone I know and perhaps file a complaint with the BBB... You suck!

Complaint: A new debit card wow! Why me? Why am I so lucky. My wife puts 400 in my savings so that I may use the debit card. For all those who don't have one of these cards, The idea is when you use it you must give the merchant a pin number to complete the tansaction. The advantage according to my wife is that these transactions are usually small and don't clutter up a bank statement. Also should you need some petty cash, you can ask for the cash and get it using the debit card depending on how much cash there is in the account. Sounds good? Now here's the catch. You must maintain a minimum balance which my wife told me was $100. I don't know if there is interest on it, but ok. Now, say you need gas, which is no longer a small item, and your balance is $150 and say your car was pritty low and the cost comes to 60. You just went below your balance! and the penalty is $35DOLLORS! But but, how could I have known? Gee Wiz I had a hundred and fifty dollors when I put the card into the gas pump, now I'm out $60 for the gas PLUS another $35 for the penalty, not to mention, how it may effect my credit down the line. Here's another.. Say you're buying something in a retail store and the merchant takes the card and you aren't sure how much you have in your account. Since the card can convert into a credit card, they will accept it no matter how much is in your account. They get paid anyway. So How can you control this? you put in your pin and Bang! another 35DOLLORS! Why don't they stop you when you are about to draw into your balance? Well, they don't. It simply, quietly, kicks into credit-card mode. Very confusing.

Complaint: Do not use the mastercard used by Orchard Bank or HSBC Services. They do not stand behind bad charges. Do not use the card in Mexico. They will not remove any bad charges from out of the country. I have been trying to remove a bad charge since May 1st. and they tell me my account has been closed and will not remove any charges after my account was closed. The kicker is that I never closed my account. The late charges just rack up and they won't do anything about a charge that wasn't mine from mexico. I am fighting this tooth and nail. Also, If you go to Mexico and want transfers, do not use the company Olympus Tours. T! hey will not refund any paid transfers even with 2 months notice. They pretend they speak no english. Two BAD companies who steal and do bad business. Stay away from both of them.

Complaint: I had an orchard bank card managed by HSBC. I have tried to cancel the card after learning I could no longer waive my yearly fee (they did once). Since that initial call, it has taken four other calls, the last being to 'account supervisors' who ensured me the account was zeroed out and closed, and that any negative credit reports would be cleared. Today when I checked on my balance, it still had a balance and the card is still active.

Complaint_against: HSBC - Orchard Bank

Complaint: I have a card issued through Orchard Bank, HSBC is the parent bank. They offered me a low interest rate on their original offer. Approximately 3 months ago I received a notice that they would be raising my interest rate because they evaluated my account again. Please note, I have not been late on a payment. They gave me the option to opt out of and close my account. I called their customer service line, talked to a representative to close my account. I explained why I was closing my account and asked if the current interest rate would remain in effec! t. She told me yes, the interest rate would not be increased, I asked if I had to notify them in writing as the mailing had stated or if this phone call to the bank would suffice. I was told yes this would be fine, the account would be closed and the interest rate would remain the same. What a surprise when this month's bill included the interest rate increase. I called HSBC, talked to a customer service rep who informs me that I will have to talk to an account manager. The account manager tells me that the customer service rep provided wrong information to me, that I needed to inform the bank in writing. She did apologize for the "incorrect information, they made no attempt to correct the mistake the customer service rep had made. By this time I was very unhappy with what had taken place. The account manager told me that her manager would call me back in 2 hours. I have been waiting over 10 hours for this phone call. What can be done with predatory banks who suck consumers in with offers of low interest? Are businesses bound by any kind of code of conduct or laws to honor what their customer service representatives do?

Complaint: I just want to say..Report this company to the BBB. They've (Household)done just about everything to me as I have read done to others. They need to be shut down and raped of every penny they have stolen from their customers. I hate this company with a passion. They call me day and night and are constantly adding on fees after fees after fees. I have had contact with them numerous times and they are of no assistance. There has got to be something done to stop this kind of theft!

Complaint: Well according to them I am dead. I might as well be, They have ruined my life. What right did they have to report that I died, especially without a death certificate. I am on limited income and now I have a mess to deal with trying to get myself alive again. What are they doing? Nothing, only harrassing me for the balance I owe them. I told them if I get an attorney, they are going to owe me!

Complaint: Cramming of unauthorized charges for worthless membership programs offered by Trilegiant. Travelers Advantage, PassporttoFun and Complete Home are 3 that I know of that I have been hit with. They send you a check that clearly states that if you cash the check you sign up for the program. Well you even when you DO NOT cash the check you get signed up for it anyway. I know because I always shred those checks and I did not want or need these membership programs. HSBC has already provided your account information to these people and when no one cashes those checks - they just sign you up. Internet retailers are also pushing these programs - fill out a survey for money off you current order - or miss that tiny print with a prechecked check box and you have signed up. There are laws against this - but they continue to it anyway

Complaint_against: Your Screwed! (HSBC Financial Credit Cards)(Best Buy)

Complaint: Best Buy (HSBC Financial Credit Card Service) (Master Complaint File!) Something needs to be done! We All Need To Take A Stand! I heard calling your Better Business Bureau and creating a petition against this bank may get thru the net enough to make them reform their payment processing techniques! Ok! First Thing, Legally They Can!! Warning about paying on-line for this credit card. Make sure you pay it at least a week in advance, because their payments on line don't get processed for 4 days. I was also told that they don't process any payments over the weekends! The problem is that I just received the statement 3 days before the due date! So much for instant bill pay. Stay away from this card!!....lousy customer service and they try to get you with the late fee (39.00!) any time they can..... I cancelled my card!--use your own regular charge card, don't get theirs! They are thieves! Ever heard of credit card sharks? Next Comment! Yes, I've encountered the same issue. Lousy customer service from their department and no resolution. I had a late charge on my bill but paid the entire promotional online and the payment was processed a few days later. The payment was received 5/1/08 and my billing cycle ended 4/27/2008 if it was two days late they could revert the late charges but it was four days. I told the customer service I was told the charges would be dropped and that I had another $7.94 promotional charge due by 5/20/2008 plus paying minimum payment. I sent in $25.00 and was still charged the late fee because it did not cover the minimum payment. The next month resulted in additional late charges. Apparently, the late charges accumulate finance charges even though I was on a deferred promotional no interest plan. The late fees were added to the minimum payment thus causing more late fees because I did not pay that minimum payment which included minimum payment for the promotional purchase and the late fee. UPDATE: Best Buy EECB Scores A Direct Hit Reader Jason just finished paying off his 0% Best Buy/HSBC credit card, or so he thought, because this devilish card just sucker-punched him with a load of hidden fees. He did some research and found out he was entered into a program that makes him pay for "debt cancellation," something Best Buy never discussed with him. He also discovered that there are many other people who feel tricked into joining this strange program. To make matters worse, HSBC, the card issuing bank, is giving Jason the runaround about reversing the fees. Jason's letter, inside... I’ve been a reader of the site for a quite a while and have come across an issue I’ve been attempting to resolve completely, with five different levels of call center supervisors without success. I applied for a Best Buy credit card with the normal 12 months, 0% Interest deal that they offer consumers on large items and purchased an HDTV in December 2005 in San Antonio, TX. As of yesterday my account is closed and paid off, much longer than I had expected it to be open for, though reviewing the last two months statements I came across monthly miscellaneous charges that I wrote off as being fees associated with deferred interest due to its unspecific, generic Transaction name of “Debt Cancellation-TX”. The “Debt Cancellation” charges varied monthly, but it ranged from $1.96 to to $2.93 to $5.57. Billed monthly, sometimes twice a month. The name of the service that they signed me up for without my consent I have discovered is “Account Shield” or “Account Secure”. A 100% profit charge that the credit card provider stuffs into their pockets, especially considering they’re signing up their customers for it without approval or notification. Yesterday on the 20th, I called over 10 toll-free numbers. 1-800’s, 1-888’s. I tried Executive Customer Relations for HSBC (Got their number from Consumerist) but they don’t handle Retail Services accounts. Any outsourced (overseas) CS calls I placed resulted in dead ends. They’d only let me talk to their supervisor whom kept repeating the same scripted response over and over— about how apparently I must have elected to subscribe to the “Account Shield” service as that’s the only way it could’ve been added to my account. Nevermind the pages and pages of people at this site whom experienced the same thing, signup for this scam of a service without their consent, signature, approval – whatever you’d like to call it. MSNBC details another person whom has gone through the exact same thing I did. Dead ends, no one would admit that they even had the CAPABILITY to refund the charges. Finally, I spoke with Yvonne Thomas, Badge Number “Y1T”, at the Wood Dale, IL call center for HSBC. I had spoken with 3 levels of supervisors / escalations (she represented herself as a supervisor) before getting to her. After going through the same process of explaining what happened, how I did not sign up for this, she would not understand where I was coming from, that I had not signed up for this service, it had been added to my account without my consent and as it has a generic name, I wrote it off as a financial charge that was required. I asked to speak to her manager and she obliged, unfortunately it resulted in only a voicemail being left at “Renee Teresina”’s mailbox. I pleaded my case quickly to make sure the entire message was recorded and hung up. Not two minutes later, Yvonne Thomas called me back and said that her manager was in meetings all day but she agreed to reverse “half” of the fees that they can see a history of. Apparently they only see back one year into my history which means $62.87 in charges. She’d be willing to reverse $32 of that $62. I said that would work for the time being until I could speak with Renee directly and she said she’d go ahead and reverse that portion of the charges. I called the overseas “Debt Cancellation” department back and somehow they were able to see the entire account history of the Debt Cancellation charges on my account that total $172.37. To me, $32 being refunded is not enough as this is a service that I didn’t agree to and wasn’t warranted. I’d like to see if my story can be heard and looked into, hopefully getting more if not all of the $172 refunded. Some quick research uncovered that there are many that feel they have been tricked into this program. The most common scenario is that a Best Buy employee offers you 0% interest on a credit card for 12 or 18 months. The employee tells you to sign here and here, but what you have done is unwittingly signed up for "debt cancellation." Some customers say they never signed up for such a program and virtually all of them say that they were never told about it by Best Buy. Some employees may have even told customers that this program is required to be approved for 0% interest, but it simply isn't true. What is debt cancellation? MSNBC says, What happened to [the victim] is that he was signed up for something called debt cancellation, which is very similar to credit insurance — once commonly offered by credit card issuers. Consumers pay a few dollars a month, based on an outstanding balance of the loan, and if they die or are incapacitated, the loan is forgiven. But debt cancellation is a relatively new development, slightly different but much preferred by retailers. Debt cancellation doesn’t involve a third-party insurance company, so the retailer and its credit partner keep all the revenue. Also, it's been deemed a non-insurance product by federal regulators. That’s important, because many state insurance regulators now limit the price of credit insurance, and mandate clear disclosures. Debt cancellation, on the other hand, is hardly regulated at all. Debt cancellation really insures the store, not the consumer, who is generally dead at the rare times the policy is invoked. The store gets paid, even when the consumer is no longer in a position to care. As with credit insurance, consumers should always decline the product, says consumer advocate Birny Birnbaum, from the Center for Economic Justice. "This does nothing for consumers," says Birnbaum, who is the former chief economist of the Texas Department of Insurance. “It's 99 percent profit for the companies. Just say no, no, no, no." Jacksonville, FL: Best Buy is coming under fire for a number of unfair consumer practices. One of the Best Buy complaints that LawyersandSettlements hears about most often is that the company applies payments to credit cards late, even if the customer has paid well ahead of time. This is the complaint that Tony (not his real name) has about Best Buy since he purchased a digital camera from the company. "It still gets me mad every time I think about it even though it was in 2003," Tony says. "I just want to be a consumer advocate and maybe someone else will be alerted to it and not fall into Best Buy's trap. Best Buy Card"I made a purchase there and they had advertised that on purchases of $299 or more, you could get 18 months of no interest if you opened a Best Buy card and made the purchase on your card. I made my payments dutifully, sending them in 10 days before they were due. "After my first payment I realized that I was being charged a late payment. I called and spoke with a Best Buy representative and the late charge was removed. But the exact same thing happened next month. There was a late charge and the interest rate had defaulted from zero percent up to something astronomical, above 18 percent. After that I just paid the card off so as not to deal with them and I'll never go back to Best Buy. And I'll take any opportunity I can to tell people about it. "I put my payments in the mail 10 days early, which should have been plenty of time to get to their offices. It wasn't around the holiday season—it was in February, March and April—so there was no reason why they couldn't credit my account on time. I've had no dealings with Best Buy since then. I still have such a bad taste in my mouth because I was so careful to keep a good credit rating. Four years later I'm still mad. "People who want a Best Buy credit card should be careful and read the fine print. I would be leery of Best Buy. I have heard stories about Best Buy and their shenanigans. It just seems like they're taking cheap shots when if they ran the business with concern for the consumer they would be fine." Best Buy: "Watch Out if You're Using Credit" December 19, 2007. By Heidi Turner Middletown, NY: Wayne Markle just wanted to purchase an HP Compaq Presario from Best Buy. What he did not realize at the time was that the computer purchase would become a huge headache for him; one that would eventually damage his credit rating and result in him receiving dunning letters from a collections agency. Best Buy deferred credit card payment is deceptive. Markle had a Best Buy credit card issued by HSBC bank. He was told by a Best Buy employee that he could make his payments at an HSBC bank, which he decided to do after initially paying online and then mailing his checks. Sometimes Markle made the payments himself but because he is disabled this was not always possible, so his roommate also made some payments at the bank. Markle says that in every case they were at the bank well before the payment deadline date. Best Buy Credit"On two or three occasions when I made payments at the HSBC bank, the teller would ask me how the payment was working out," Markle says. "On one occasion, I said that they seemed to be okay and the teller said to me, 'Well, some of our customers are saying that they're getting late payment notices and it's not that we're sending the payments in late, it's that Best Buy is crediting the payments late.'" One day, Markle received an invoice from Best Buy stating that he was behind on his payments. In fact, Best Buy claimed that Markle was three months behind on his payments and added interest and penalties to his charges. So, Markle phoned Best Buy to try to figure his situation out. When he got through to a Best Buy representative, he was told that his account had been sent to collections that day. Markle could not go on to the Best Buy website to verify his payment history with the company because he was locked out of the website. Compounding the situation was that even though his account had been sent to collections, Markle continued receiving bills from Best Buy. "I sent letters to the collection agency and to Best Buy asking who I should pay to sort this out," Markle says. "The collection agency letter was returned unopened and the bills from Best Buy continued with no answer to my letter. I don't want my credit ruined. I wanted and would still like this to be settled. "I've received dunning letters and bills from Best Buy and no answers about who I should pay. Now, I'm so far behind and I don't know how. They've damaged my credit through this practice. I find it hard to believe it's a mistake, especially when customers say their payments are getting to Best Buy late. The HSBC bank stopped taking payments for Best Buy, which is fascinating because the Best Buy credit card was an HSBC card. "I kept up with my payments for at least a year. I tried paying online, but because of the Best Buy website I kept having to change the security settings on my computer in order to make payments, so I switched to mail and then went to the bank. But I don't know why the payments were late. Were they not being credited by Best Buy on time? I had the payment to the bank in time, so what happened? "Best Buy makes its name as being consumer friendly and helpful, but behind the scenes, when it comes down to it, there's no real people to talk to. If you try to contact someone at Best Buy you get someone you can talk to about your bill, if you're on time. They might be all right if you go in with cash, but watch out if you're using credit. If you can't afford to pay cash for a big ticket item, don't go for it." In the next Best Buy article, LawyersandSettlements.com speaks with another customer who says Best Buy repeatedly applied payments to his credit card late, even though he made the payments on time. When Paid in Full Is Not Enough News December 17, 2007. By Anita Black Knoxville, TN: When Jamie E. walked into his local Best Buy store with $3,800 in his pocket, he had no idea his purchase would continue to cost him money month after month after month. But after putting the remaining few hundred dollars of his total purchase price on Best Buy's deferred payment, no interest credit card, Jamie has been getting a bill every single month. It was spring of this year when Jamie decided to purchase two computers at Best Buy. He wanted one desk top model for his family to use, and one laptop for himself. He traveled a lot with work and wanted a way to be able to work while on the road and still stay in touch with family at home. "I had $3,800 on me and the two computers, with all the accessories, came to $4,000. I was a couple of hundred dollars short and the guy said 'get a Best Buy credit card with deferred interest and 0% for 90 days. It had a limit of $500,'" he said. Best Buy ComputerHe completed the transaction at the till, not paying too much attention as he was so focused on his computers and accessories and making sure he had everything he needed for his family. "I got all my stuff," he said. "It was about 30 boxes in total—the router—I got everything. I intended to have a complete set-up with all the accessories." He packed up his vehicle and brought his purchases home. In all, he said, he put $500 on the credit card and managed to keep a few hundred of the cash he had. His kids love the home computer. They even have a camera set up so they can talk to Grandma. He uses his work computer extensively as he is usually gone from home for a few weeks at a time. Jamie knew he had to make a monthly payment on the card for the first two months and dutifully sent the $20 minimum required. In the third month—the end of the 90 day 0% interest period—his wife called Best Buy for the pay-out balance. "It was $461.74. It made sense so she paid it off by check in the mail," he said. But that wasn't the end of the story. Three weeks later, Jamie got a Best Buy bill in the mail. It was for about $90! Apparently, without his knowledge, Best Buy claimed he had agreed to pay for insurance on the balance carried on his credit card. "In case we couldn't make the payment," he said. "Logically, it didn't make sense as we paid $3,500 cash. I called them and argued then said fine, you got me. I paid the $90 to be done with them. I had no time. I travel a lot and my time is valuable." Thinking he was, again, done with Best Buy, life carried on. But Best Buy wasn't done with Jamie. 'The next month there was another bill," he said. "It was a late fee to pay off the insurance fee as that wasn't paid in the 90 day period. They tacked on for back due interest for the entire 90 days for another $90." He called, spent half an hour on hold, spoke to a few customer service representatives and a couple of supervisors and told them at first that he would not pay. "I was mad," he said. "I was inconvenienced. I don't need to be spending my time doing this. We should be done with this, so I paid it." Basically, Jamie was now out $180 for the privilege of using Best Buy's $500 for three months. "I paid two late fees because I paid the second one off late," he said. "Apparently you can't stop it. They send the bill and it's already late when I get it. I travel in business and my wife is home with the kids. If there's an issue with a bill, I call, so here we go again." With the second bill paid, he thought he was done with the whole mess. But yesterday, Jamie received another bill for a $35 late fee. "I'm torqued. Seriously, what's the best thing? Sue? They know they've got you as it's not enough money to get all up in arms about." Finally, Jamie had had enough and went to his Best Buy computer to search the Internet to see if anyone else has been having the same problem. He found many people suffering the same kind of predicament. More than that, he is certain that Best Buy knows there is a problem. "I am ticked off to have the computers," said Jamie. "I will never go back there again. I would love to take the computers back and get my money back and buy them somewhere else." LawyersandSettlements would like to hear from people on the west coast who have had a problem with Best Buy similar to the one Jamie E. experienced. Several people in California have already filed complaints with LawyersandSettlements against Best Buy regarding their deferred credit card payment. One disgruntled customer is Jordan H. of San Francisco, California (not his real name pending a lawsuit). He says he was charged late fees on Best Buy credit card when payments were mailed 10 days before due date. Even though his payments were sent with plenty of time for processing prior to due date, they were not applied to his balance This resulted in late fees and a higher default rate (not the 0% rate for six months as promoted). "I have paid off the card's balance, destroyed it and closed my account and I will never again purchase anything from this retailer." check This Out! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxpbDbAVEyI Complaint: Do not apply for HomeBank Credit cards (issued from Best Buy). They charge ridiculous fees for no reason and do not go by the standard post mark date. So although I mailed my payment in advance of 5 days, they claim it was late by 3 days and charged me $35 plus $2 plus $3.80 in late fee charges, on a bill that was only $50. They customer service is no help. It's their word verses mine in regards to if the payment was late or not, even though the check is dated a week prior to the due date. Needless to say I canceled my card ASAP, but unfortunately I had to pay ~$40 in ficticious charges. (Plus they never deliver the free $25 gift card incentive that is promised when you sign up for the card) I write this, not to get my money back or anything, but just hopefully to warn others of this thievery. Jayson Florida Complaint: HouseHold They signed me up for a master card that i did not give them authorization to do so, along with that they signed me up for there insurance without my signature. i have 5 different numbers to get rid of 2 charges. recieved a letter from one of there departments stating that they were reporting that i missed bill payments when i did not. the department that sent me the letter has no phone number and can only be contacted by phone. no one department appears to know things from the other department. i am getting the run around. if this could be done over again i would have never used it to purchase a computer at best buy. it is the best buy credit card. worst thing that you could have. i did not recieve statements for 2 months because they had my wrong address yet, my best buy rewards card and best buy sent me mail with the correct address and it was all from one form L. michaels Complaint: My exwife got a household bank credit card (best buy). P Perkins Complaint_against: HCSB - Best Buy Credit Card Complaint: I purchased a microwave from Best Buy and received a 90 day interest free period. The second payment I made was online on the day it was due and I was charged a $29 late fee on my next statement. When I called to complain, I was told that it took 2 days for online payments to be posted--but they did waive the $29 fee. I called on the day the final payment was due and was told if I wanted to avoid another $29 late fee, I had to pay by phone that day...of course there was a $15 "Direct Check Fee". Opting to pay the $15 vs the $29 I paid the entire balance due. The following month, I received my statement with a $15 balance; however, I noticed that the $15 was listed as part of a "promotional payoff amount." and that it had to be paid 19 days after the statement date and a full 6 days before the regular payment due date. When I called to question why, I was told that the $15 "Direct Check Fee" was actually taken out of my full payment, which left $15 on my prom! otional purchases. Had they not done this, I would be charged daily interest on the $15 Direct Check Fee since it was not a promotional purchase. Does this make sense to ANYONE? How can a fee accrue interest? Johnny Oklahoma Complaint_against: Best Buy (HSBC Financial) Complaint: Best Buy- you know the big electronics guys that openly advertise 12months no payments and not interest. A little piece of advice from me to you, if you don't pay bills VERY consistently and timely you'll definetly want to stay away from this company. Late Fees $29, interest charge on each late fee $13 dollars, the price of keeping your credit good PRICELESS. 6 Bernz Complaint_against: Best Buy Credit Cards Complaint: I do not like how Best Buy and Retail services handle the payments. I paid my payment three days earlier, but those morons consider it late because i didn't pay before 4 pm. Hey, i pay my other credit online the same way. They credit my account the next day. Last time ,I checked Friday is business day. Also, Whatis with a sunday Statement date.? I should've charge a late fee because my payemt came to them next day! Let this be a cautionary tale about all fine print on credit cards. This story about a Best Buy rewards card shows that what you see on the surface and what you see buried in the fine print are totally different things. A Best Buy credit cardholder was charged over $300 on a $700 purchase because the card company claimed that he didn’t get his bill paid on time. Their explanation? That the bill needed to be paid five days before the due date posted on the bill, as stipulated by the fine print. Basically, that due date meant next to nothing. This is core to why so many people are up in arms about the fine print. Credit card companies can argue about it and say, “Look, it’s right there in writing,” but the above practice is pretty devious. There is no good reason for the bill to be due five days before the due date on the bill. It seems explicitly designed to make people default. This is core to why there is legislation on the docket to make fine print terms more obvious: what you see is what you get. And don’t think that just because you don’t have a Best Buy card that this is not going to happen to you. While Best Buy has been particularly guilty of these types of practices, the same complaints are leveled at other credit card companies as well. This why I implore people to look at their credit card bill every month – even if they spent no money the previous month. There may be new finance charges on a program that you didn’t sign up for, or a sudden change in your APR. Even if you are not able to reduce that APR immediately to what it was before the change, you might change your spending habits and attack that balance head on. Dr.X! PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THESE BEST BUY SCAMS EVERYONE! BEST BUY WILL FALTER SOON BECAUSE OF THEIR TACTICS! STOP BUYING FROM BEST BUY! THIS STORE SUCKS! SAY NO TO BEST BUY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Complaint_against: HSBC credit card

Complaint: a few years ago i had a credit card through HSBC. We were in the process of moving and i forgot to give them my new phone number and address. upon moving a friend of mine asked if she could take over my old phone number as a second line into her house. i said sure. some time had passed then my husband and i were starting to look into buying a home. our realtor did a credit check on us and i came up deceased. quite upset about this i had called my friend to tell her this. come to find out HSBC was calling my old number, my friends new number, she became tired of the phone call! s that came in about 10 times a day. instead of her giving them my new phone number she told them i died.. about 2 day's later HSBC called her back for the date of my death and she gave them a date of january 21st. instead of HSBC getting any documentation on this, like they are suppose to they immediatly through me in the credit bureau as deceased. i had called HSBC and they told me i needed to notorize a copy of my drivers license and fax it to the deceased department then it would be taking care of... they took care of nothing..... i called back a few months ago same thing notorized copy of drivers license. i asked the lady if she had a notorized copy of my death certificate and of course she said no.... the point of my story is my girlfriend can just say i'm dead without proof but i can't call and tell them i'm alive..i'm unable to obtain a job because employers do a soft check on your credit plus i cannot apply for a car, home or anything else you need credit for....it! 's really pretty scary when you think about it... and one more thing, there was no documentation what so ever to prove i was deceased...

Complaint: You talk about arrogant people, and a place that wants to rape their customers for money.... If you have HSBC - beware - and if you can, trash them! That is what I have done - they are gone, fired and I will let everyone I can know NOT to do business with them!

I AM GOING TO GO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU,,,LAST TIME THAT I KNEW..CREDIT CARDS GO OFF OF YOUR SOCIAL..NOT JUST YOUR NAME...SO WITH ANYONE WITH A FAIRLY NEW LAST NAME..DO NOT GO WITH THIS COMPANY...I ALREADY LOST MY IDENTITY,,AND NOW TO THINK THEY HAVE TELEMARKETERS..WHO JUST PULL UP PUBLIC RECORDS BY NAME,,,AND NOT THEIR SOCIAL..WOW??? HOW SAFE IS THIS..I THINK,,I WILL JUST FIND ANOTHER WAY TO REBUILD MY CREDIT..AND TO THINK I JUST BOUGHT TWO BRAND NEW CARS AND PAID CASH...SHOULD OF PAID FOR MOST OF IT..AND THE REST MADE PAYMENTS ...THAT WOULD OF BEEN A GREAT WAY TO RESTABLISH MY "CREDIT!" SO TO ANYONE LOOKING @ THIS CREDIT CARD...THINK TWICE..IF YOUR NAME HAS CHANGED.. HAVE A NICE DAY!

Complaint: Recieved an annual charge of $59.00 on Sept 21st statement. called the company 10/6. They told me they could waive 1/2 the annual charge or to have the whole charge removed I would need to close the account. I closed the account. I had made a purchase on the account 9/28. They did not tell me this amount would be due a week before I would recieve my closing statement on 10/26. Recieved my bill and low and behold the annual fee was still on it along with a late charge of $29 for the annual charge not being paid. called the company they said they would wave the late charge or the annual fe! e but not both. The late fee was assessed because of the annual fee. I feel that I was duped. I was told that I needed to follow the account information on the back of the bill. No where on the bill does it state that you need to pay the final bill a week before you recieve it.

Complaint_against: Direct Merchants Bank (HSBC)

Complaint: My Direct Merchants Bank credit card was my first credit account. I have it for over thirteen years. It has served me well over the years. (Even if has always held one of the highest APR’s) I guess it was recently bought out by HSBC. I recently received a “NOTICE OF CHANGE IN TERMS.” My already high APR is going to be raised higher by the first of the year 2009. If i do not agree with the changes I need to writhe them with in 30 days. and get this, "When we receive your notification, your account will be closed"... Blah , blah I did not accept the change. They closed my account! It is frustrating, that “the rules” can change while the game is already in play. It saddens me that my non-acceptance of the change in terms has to terminate our relationship, with no questions asked. I have had other cards request a letter of non acceptance, but they did NOT terminate my account! My balance is $500.00+ I have only been using the card here and there... They loved me when I had thousands in debt with them... I just realized I have another HSBC card that carries a $9.95 monthly fee for a credit reporting feature. Otherwise I don't use the card. I think I may close that account. Thanks for the memories.

Complaint_against: HSBC Master Card

Complaint: HSBC will not work with card holders to pay off their card balance. They offer you a reduced pay off amount but will be recorded negatively on your credit report for up to 10 years. If you have missed a payment, the interest rate jumps to a rediculously astronomical rate of almost 30%! They will NEVER renegotiate or discuss a reduction in the interest rate on your balance unless there are timely minumum payments for 6 consecutive months. The problem is if you want to try to pay off the balance BEFORE 6 consecutive months. HSBC WILL NOT help reduce the interest rate. Regardless of how long you have been a card member or how much you have paid in fees and interest, HSBC will not negotiate a win-win situtation with their card holders. They are the only BIG winners with their almost criminal interest rates.

Complaint_against: Bonton Stores, HSBC

Complaint: HSBC does credit cards for Bonton stores. The terms of the account include a 23-day grace period, but what is not disclosed is that the bills are not mailed for a week or so after the date. This seems intended to give exactly the legal minimum time to pay without getting late charges. A call to the company only provided the option to close the account. Any challenges have to be in writing to the credit processor.

Complaint: These two companies are owned by the same place. After my bankruptcy they offered me at least 2 credit cards for $300 each credit line. I took it as I was barely living paycheck to paycheck, and yes, I realize how stupid that was now. What they do then is ALLOW charges to go through that make you go over the limit. Then they charge you an overlimit fee that is actually MORE than your minimum payment, so that you have to pay twice as much to get it below the limit so that you're not charged again. THEN if you try to get them to talk to you, their CSRs agree to help you over the phone but it never transpires. ! And dont bother trying to communicate with them in writing - they refuse to write you back. They send you form letter after form letter, but never a response to your inquiry or request for anything. They also wont hesitate to sue you - even though these are UNSECURED credit cards, and intimidate you into signing judgements against your credit. Do NOT apply for or accept from either of these companies. It will be more trouble than it is worth to have the card.

Complaint: I am tired to contacting HSBC about the wrong finance charges being applied to my account since May 2008.There was a promotional period between march and april 2008 where any purchases made with in this qualifies for 0% APR for six month. I made the purchases exactly with in this time but guess what? Instead of 0% I started to receive finanence charges from 29% and I am still battling. I have contacted with HSBC customer service several times and each time I am being told issue is resolved. Now not only issue is not resolved I am being penalized with late charges of wrong finance charges. Horrabl! e service, bad APR and don't know what to do with this card anymore.

Complaint: Today's date - 1/15/09. My payment is due 1/19/09. I want to make a payment now on their website. The earliest posting date is 1/20/09. That is 5 days to post. I must pay $15 to make a rush payment so it will post in time. I could drive to the payment location in California or Illinois faster than their online payment service. This is not reasonable service.

Complaint: When I was Christmas shopping in December I went to K-mart in Acton MA. The girl at the service desk "pressured" me to apply for a card. I explained that I wouldn't get approved and wasn't interested, and she kept saying, just give it a try, there are no payments until June. Long story short, I got approved, and I used the card. Then the other day I got a bill in the mail, even though she told me that there would be no payments until June (6 months) I tried to get the card company to help me, and they wouldn't, and then they charged me a late fee and wont waive it just one time.

Complaint: I have had an HSBC account for about a year and a half and I have an excellent payment history. I charged $350.00 on Monday Feb 16 for car repairs and on Thursday Feb 19 I got an email from HSBC account central stating that I was over my limit. Impossible, I thought, and I looked at my statement that said I had over $800 available. When I called HSBC on Fri morning they told me that they had lowered millions of customers credit limits (on Tues Feb 17) without any advance notice. They told me that it was a business decision to protect the company from losses. So I asked them about my balance because it was not over the limit when I ma! de the charge. They told me that I would have 30 days to pay my account down to its new limit and then if I didn't I'd be charged an over limit fee. Now I ask you how much money is HSBC going to cheat its customers out of with this scam. HSBC IS BAD!!!!!!!

Complaint_against: HSBC Rewards Zone Master Card

Complaint: I am dealing with my credit card company and their 3rd-party 'Account Shield' for months that has not only caused raised my interest rate by almost double, but has caused numbers of fees tacked on to my account. When I signed up for the plan through HSBC (Best Buy Rewards Master Card), they said they would cover life events such as moves that cover your minimum due for 4 months. I moved and claimed the event in November. I have two cards with them, so they sent two forms that were identically. Once rows said list account(s). So I listed one, and a week later got a confirmation that it was active. So not worried about it, turns out they only activated one card. I called about this, and they said I needed to fill out the same form twice regardless of if it said account numbers. I informed them it wasn't my job to know their processing process, since I am a consumer and just do what the forms tell me. If something illogical is in the process, then they need to tell the customer. So, I called Account Shield, they admitted error and made retroactive. Well, this is a different department than Customer Service, who is in charge of adjusting the fees on the account and doing the math to get the interest and payments back to where they were since the activation. I have called multiple times starting in the begining of December, and they are 'working on it'" but in the meantime I have been technically late for a couple months and my minimum due went from $44 to $141 and my interest rate to 30%. Great protection, huh? I get harassing phone calls from there collection department, which is another department, with no insight to what is going on. The last note I received today was that I needed to call Account Sheild... which doesn't do the adjustments on the account. I have been given the run around and I want all of you out there to know Account Shield is a SCAM and HSBC is doing nothing to take responsibilty for the additional prodcts they pitch you every time you call.

Complaint_against: Household, HSBC Union Card

Complaint: Husband has been an AFSCME Union Card holder for many, many years. We did not use this card regularly, ever, and had no problems until in 07 we used it on a trip to the East Coast and when the bill came, it had the credit insurance charges on it. I called them and they told me we had signed up for it. WE DID NOT, EVER sign up for the insurance. We paid the card in full approximately July or Aug. of 2007 and never used the card after that. We got a letter from them in Nov. 08 that they had closed the account from our not using it and for purposes of fraud protection. No contact from ! them prior to that alerting us that if we didn't use the card we'd be canceled. We would have used it and paid it off, to keep it active and keep my husbands credit score up. I've not had the heart to check his credit score as he says he's not borrowing any more money anywhere (he doesn't understand about credit scoring affecting EVERYTHING). So, I was pretty upset they canceled this card but in reading all the above posts, I think I am glad. We had another card with about the same credit line and for as long as we had this one, so I'm hoping his credit score wouldn't be hit that bad.

Complaint_against: HSBC - Lost Rewards/Closed Acct

Complaint: I went into my acct. to cash in my Rewards and was unable to access them. Then, saw where my acct. had been closed. When I called, I was told they closed it due to inactivity (6 mos.) but could call the Rewards Center direct. However, they were unable to do anything because of the closed acct. I ended back up with Card Services - who told me nothing could be done; but, I should be getting a letter notifying me of the closure. After demanding to escalate my concern, I talked to two other people (supposedly managers). Finally, the last one said he could request a payout for cash-back ONLY. I did not! have the option of an airline tkt (which I could have gotten 1 full tkt up to $400). Now, he 'hoped' I would accept the cash-back since it was my only option. He could not tell me how much it would be; but, I knew it would not be enough to equal the airline tkt voucher! THEY decide how often you must use your card & if they want to just drop you, they can...losing all Rewards credits. If you only use your card for travel/vacations, you might get a big surprise when you go to use it & it has been closed. This is not the only time we had trouble - also had incorrect charges against the card. And, once they called me at home to get me to give them my checking acct info to make a payment so it would not be late & be charged service fees. Have they not heard the news about fraud & not giving info to anyone calling you?!?! I gladly accept them closing my acct and will NEVER use them again!

Complaint_against: Orchard Bank

Complaint: DO NOT EVER APPLY FOR THIS CARD!!!! HSBC- Orchard Bank mailed me a card right out of bankruptcy four years ago. Since that date, my credict score is in the high 700's. They only increased my limit three times in four years, and the interest was over 21%. In 2008, I cancelled the card while speaking to someone in the retention department, adn they told me that as long as the card was paid off before 11/09, there would be no interest at all. However, I was advised that if I was late, or did not pay off the card by 11/09, that compound interest of 28.99 would incur. I have faithfully made my payments, but was naive and have not really checked the account. I called them b/c the interest has remained and at 28.99%!!! They said that there was no lower rate to offer, and said that no one else could assist me with the issue.

Complaint_against: HSBC credit card

Complaint: I had applied for a HSBC credit card in the month of June, which was received on 28 th July 2008. I had made a purchase of about 3800.00 RS on 15 th August . I received a call from HSBC on 3 sep 2008 stating that my outstanding balance was 5300.00, for which no bill was posted to me .I had consulted HSBC Customer care centre for a clarification for this during which I learnt that I have been charged with a Late fee of 400.00 plus there were two premium paid for a TATA AIG policy each Rs 500.I had asked the Cust Care exe. To immediately cancel this policy as I had not applied for it. During which I was intimated that I would have to pay the first premium on RS 500 as I had not cancelled this policy within 20 days. They also offered me certain bonus points if I paid this amount.I repaid my actual outstanding balance for which I had made a purchase of Rs. 3800 immediately, but I did not pay the 500 RS which was premium for the policy. In the following month I intimated HSBC that I have crushed/lost their card and no longer wish to use it. I also visited HSBC office at SB Road Pune, which asked me call Customer Care directly as they don’t deal with Credit card queries. I made several requests through email to info@hsbc.co.in after which I was emailed this scanned copy of the document I had signed .My complaint no. was Reference Number: 290224567. Email Subject as per HSBC I wish to let you know that I this document was signed in complete ignorance ,that I was signing the documents for the application of the credit card I promised by the agent.I also did not receive ant TATA AIG policy with this credit card so that I could cancel it within 20 days. Now I have been getting threatening calls from HSBC recovery department stating that my outstanding balance is around 3500.00 ( 500 .00+ interest). They are asking me to pay atleast 1000.00 Rs to settle this matter. I feel completely cheated ans misguided all the way. Please help me out of this.

Complaint: CREDIT CARD DETAILS RECIEVED FROM CIBIL: Account type: CREDIT CARD Account Status: WRITTEN OFF Amount Overdue: 26,797 Reported by: HSBC Account Information: Date Reported:31-10-2008 Due to personal reason (Lost the job for couple of months), I made the settlement for HSBC credit card on 25 of June,2007 as per the settlement document received from HSBC bank. But the executive collected the cheques from me had mentioned 26 of June, 2007 (i.e. 1 day late) on the payment reciepts as he said that it is not possible for him to deposite the money on 25 of June, 2007 as bank were closed in the evening. I too missed to check the settlement date in the settlement letter but I verbally confirmed number of times that I have nothing pending now against my credit card. Now after 2 years when I applied for loan, I got refusal as the HSBC bank has updated the status on CIBIL stating Rs.26,797 outstanding against my credit card account. On enquiring to HSBC bank they state that as I made the payment a day late then the date mentioned in settlement letter so accordingly your settlement stands null and void. After requesting HSBC bank n-number of times stating the fact th! at it is not my fault as I made the payment on 25 of June, 2007 but your executive had put the date 26 on the receipts, there is no hearing. I had mailed atleast 10 times to HSBC bank but they are not responsding. Everytime they are giving excuses like my phone is not reachable or they will call me with in 4-6 working days. But still there is no staisfactory response from their end. Please help. FYI I have settlement letter as well as the receipts with me as well. Thanks & Regards, Nitin Sindhwani

Complaint_against: HSBC

Complaint: In February of this year, I had an HSBC credit card with a $5000 credit limit. The account was in good standing, and I have never had a missed or late payment anywhere in my credit history. When I received my tax refund this year, I paid my $4000 balance in full on this credit card. HSBC immediately lowered my credit limit from $5000 to $1740. Less than two months later, they closed my account outright "due to inactivity". It has only been a month since I used the card, and in 8 weeks I went from a $5000 credit limit to a closed account! This is my reward for responsible spending? At this point, I am greatly concerned that my other creditors will see a greater percentage of my credit being used and do the same thing. Something is seriously wrong when I pay off debt responsibly and in turn have my credit score lowered. My husband has been serving in the army for 5 years, and our plan has been to start a dental practice next year. We are now concerned that our credit rating will be in the toilet simply because we paid down our debt, and that we will not be able to secure the loan we will need to start his business. Help!

Complaint: I moved from my previous residents aug of 2008. My phone company did not have a forwarding service and I thought all of my mail was forwarded to my new address. I changed all of my bills to my new address however HSBC sent there statement to a pittsbugh address(I have lived in NY my whole life)Due to all of the mergers with banks I didnt think twice about getting in touch with HSBC because I didnt use there credit card for a long time and didnt realize I still owed them 1500 which I would have gladly paid. I just starting shopping for a new car and on my credit report it stated my account was deliquent. I found out they ! sent this account to a collection agency and HSBC never got in touch with me because they sent my statement to Pittsburgh. Does anyone know how I can clear this up.

Complaint: I have been a costumer with this credit card company for 2 years. I have paid my payments on time and always the amount or more that is due. I recently called for an account balance and was told that I had more credit avaliable than I actually did. With this information that I was told by a customer service rep I believed that I had a sufficent amount to use on my card. After one purchase that was under the amount that I was told I had avaliable..my account suddenly became overlimit..which I was then charged and overlimit fee and my APR was DOUBLED. This i! s the problem with credit card companies..they miss inform you of information that you ask for help on to rip you off and make more money for their companies that already are million dollar companies. How is the economy going to get any better when you cant even trust your personal credit anymore?? This should be against the law and im some way Im pretty sure it is..these companies should be the ones held responsible for these kind of decieving antics..not the credit holder. People wonder why it is so hard to get out of debt..its because not matter how much you are on point and do what your supposed too, these companies doctor different ways to take advantage of you.

Complaint: I'm filing a complaint against the afformentioned credit card companies. I had been paying my bills every month and on time, on a rare occasion a bill or two was sent late. Since December my hours were cut to 20hrs a week permanantely. I have been unsucessful finding a full time job due to a struggling economy. With my rent, food, and other utilities...I have been unable to pay my credit card bills. These 3 companies ( HSBC, Citibank, and Capital One ) call me numerous times throughout the day, Citibank and HSBC will call me 4 times an hour. I explained my situation to them but it falls o! n deaf ears, their late fees and interest rates are so high. This seems wrong in every sense of the word. The phone calls alone are harassing, and I want it to stop.Once every hour to four times an hour is harassment. I want this stop and I want it to stop now.
