Complaint:
My issue is with Household Bank Credit Card. I received a card unsolicited,
but, kept it anyway before using it one day 3 months later.
The bill payment policies for this company are deliberately deceitful and
designed to exact late payments from card users.
The payment for example is due on the 16th of the month. If you make the
payment "on" the 16th your payment is considered late and a $35 late charge
is sucked out of your account. They claim it takes 2 days to "post" which is
not unusual in the industry. However, you are not "credted" with making the
payment on time.
Its the semantics they use to deceive. "Post" means the payment you make
will not "reflect" the payment for accounting purposes so that you can
visually see your payment result for 2 days or whatever. That is common on
all my banking accounts and other credit card companies where I have
accounts. You ARE however CREDITED with the on time payment when the payment
is paid on the due date it is paid.
They tell you the payment is due on the 16th. Thats a bold face lie. It is
due on the 14th or they consider it late. If they need the money on the 16th
why deceive their customers by telling them its due on the 16th when they
know it will be considered late? Tell them the payment is due on the 14th.
This policy puts the consumer responsible for their internal accounting
procedures.
SUMMARY
It is the general trend in financial institutions that are steadily stealing
away rights of consumers, which now is approaching outright deceit and
obvious policies "designed" to cause consumers to pay late fees through
misunderstanding.
Its commonly known these credit card companies make the vast majority of
their profits on late fees and interest payments. They have a natural
incentive to further profits by policies that increase late fees and
interest payments. This scurolous practice by Household is transparent and
netting them millions by this deception.
Does it bother anybody that these blood suckers actually charge a fee for
the privelege of paying them money you owe by paying over the phone?
Who protects the public by letting these people get away with deceptive
policies like this?

Complaint:
My wife and I had a BestBuy Credit card years ago. We paid off the balance,
and they didn't apply the payment to the account for two weeks after they
received it. Why? The person was on vacaton that handled it. RIGHT!!!
Well, this was supposedly taken care of back then, but a year later, we were
contacted about "our delinquent account". We paid the balance in full.
These calls kept up for months when we finally agreed to half of what the
computer showed we owed them. We ended up "settling" more than one time.
After the third time, I told them that I was not going to pay any money to
them. The account was paid off!!! I wasn't about to give them more money.
Well, they left me alone for about a year and a half. At that time, they
turned us to a collection agency. I faxed all the info to that agency, and
they must have turned the account back to Household Bank telling them they
were in the wrong. Since then, every 9 months to a year, we get a new
collection agency calling us. For 5 years now, I have been fighting and
arguing this account with them. I even have a check stub proving the
account was paid with a consolidation loan we did to take care of it.
I no longer purchase anything from Best Buy. |

stating I owe them over $103. They are calling at work and at home. I will

I received a bill for an annual fee from Household Bank for a credit card
I've never received. I called them and said that I don't have any such
credit card and want this account terminated immediately. Two weeks later I
received a letter saying this account has been closed. Then, another two
weeks later, I received a bill for the original plus a late fees.
I called them up and it went straight to their collections dept. who hung up
on me twice. The third time they said "Oh, only one thing wasn't done in
cancelling your card." And when I asked to speak to a supervisor, they hung
up on me again.
God knows what they've reported to some credit agency.

Have you had any complaints about a collections agency called Corporate
Receivables, who does collections for Household Bank? They made a
settlement offer with me back in Jan. 2004 for 70% of my balance (this
was oral over the phone). I agreed, sent the check for the agreed upon
amount by certified mail, as was requested. It was credited to my
account, but not as payment in full. Mike Saunders, who made this
agreement with me, kept promising a letter showing that this was payment
in full. He never followed through, even though I would call him every
month when I received my statement. Each time he would assure me that
this account was paid in full, he would get the letter out to me. And
each time, nothing would happen. In June, my account was sent back to
Household and sold to another collections agency. At that point,
Corporate Receivables would not talk to me and I have not been able to
anywhere since. I have contacted an attorney today.
I am curious to see if there are any other cases out there like mine.
Thank you,
Janet Palmer

Complaint_against: Household Bank Gold Mastercard
Complaint: I acquired a small balance credit card for my teenage son. When
the card reached its credit limit ($300.00) I started to recieve statements
that reflected a minimum payment that turned out to be insufficient to bring
the balance-owed below the credit limit, even with no other charge
activity. The reason turned out to be a mid-billing cycle assessment of a
overlimit charge assessment. Thus, the minimum payment would change in the
middle of the billing cycle by this mid-cycle addition of an overlimit
charge assessment. The billing cycle for the overlimit charge assessment
was different than the statement's regular billing cycle. This had the
effect that when I timely mailed the current payent due, an overlimit fee
would invariably be charged on the account each month. Operating that way,
the account appeared to be designed to remain at the credit limit forever.
In two months, I paid $70.00 in overlimit fees alone. When you calculate
the "effective rate of i!
nterest" produced by these monthly fees, the card's real rate of interest
jumps to in excess of 120% per annum. I wish federal authorities would
enact a statute that limits the relative percentage of earnings that a card
issuer can earn on a given account not to exceed 40% per annum. Over limit
fees and late charges would then be limited to no more than around $5 to $10
per month for an account that has a total credit limit of $300.00. I paid
the account off and closed it. |

my consent. Household Bank sent out $5 checks, and if they are cashed you
are enrolled in the club. I never cashed these checks, but was enrolled

Household would not assist me in removing these charges and insisted I deal
directly with the merchants. It has been a couple of months and countless
phone calls have been places. Still I have not been able to have all the
money credited back to my account. Obviously Household has some
arrangements with these companies, which is why they were unwilling to
remove the fraudulent charges. I strongly advise against doing any business
with Household Bank. I closed my account at once when it became apparent
that Household does not care for helping their customers. |

Complaint: This has to be the biggest pack of crooks and thieves I have ever
dealt with. When I was laid off in December last year I contacted the
company and they agreed to put me on a lower interest/lower payment program
for 6 months to help me through my unemployment. This sounded like a great
deal but beware: A stipulation in the agreement was for me to agree to allow
them to automatically withdraw payment from my checking account at an agreed
date. I did agree to have payments automatically withdrawn. Well, they
didn't withdraw the required amount for 3 straight months and when I
discovered what was going on they had charged me 35.00 late fees and upped
my interest rate to the maximum rate allowed. This eventually put me over my
limit costing me overage fees as well. When I tried to contact them to
dispute this disparity they denied ever agreeing to automatically withdraw
the amount. What we have here in this country is a pack of legal loan sharks

Complaint:
Curious how Household Bank continue to operate. I got an account that I
never even asked for, and have been trying to pay it off for two years, but
each month I end up with some excuse that it could not be posted on time.
Each time I got a $70.00 fee for late and over draft. Even though I paid
the card down, they took the money and turned me into a company called
Universal Recovery Systems. This company sends a statement and so does
Household Bank, both with completely different due dates for payments. When
they were questioned they refer back to the org. agreement for the card,
which does not stiuplate that you must pay 10 days before you cycle date or
you get the fees. It should be noted that Universay Recovery Systems has
been taken to court by several folks including the United States for
discrimination and unlawful practices. Also Household Bank has also faced
charges. At this time I urge everyone to file a complaint against this
credit card company and Universa!
l Recovery Systems with the FCC and the Federal Reserve Bank as well as the
BBS and your local State Attorney Generals Office. If we all do that we
stand a chance to stop them before someone else is hurt. It is too late for
my credit which they have distroyed, but we can help others.
Also FYI ACCORDING TO BOTH HOUSEHOLD BANK AND UNIVERSAL RECOVERY SYSTEMS
YOU MUST MAKE YOUR PAYMENTS 10 DAYS BEFORE YOUR CYCLE DATE OR YOU WILL GET
ADDITIONAL FEES.
FEDERAL LAW REQUIRES ANY CREDIT CARD COMPANY WHO TAKES A PAYMENT OVER THE
PHONE FROM YOU CHECKING ACCOUNT TO CREDIT THAT PAYMENT THE SAME DAY.
So again I say fight them, the more who complain the more we stand a chance
to stop them. |

I called Household Bank (HSBC) and asked them to lower my interest rate. I

Household Bank made the decision to jack up my interest rate despite three
years of consistent on time payments and credit increases. They made this
decision based on an Equifax report riddled with errors (including addresses
I've never lived at and they also had my employer incorrect).
Household didn't allow me the time to dispute the information nor did they
allow enough time to change the information before instituting the change in
rate. They also were rude in discussion (although I will admit I got a
little touchy when they started getting argumentative with me).
Any credit card company should allow long time customers sufficient time to
dispute a charge before changing interest rates. This is unethical and it is
predatory in nature. If there is incorrect information out there on a credit
report it is the obligation of a credit card company to allow the customer
the change to respond and correct it before jerking them around. It seems to
me that Household uses this as an opportunity to get you further in debt and
then jacks up the interest rates to increase their profitability. |

Complaint:
Bought some TV's on the "same as cash" deal that Best Buy does from time to
time. I get the bills and make a payment much higher than the minimum. Works
great for a few months and then HSBC decides to "hold" their mail until
after the due date, thus $35 late charges are posted. June bill was sent
June 12th and posted June 21st, 2 days after late date. July bill was sent
July 10th and as of today, July 20th, it has not been posted. Late charge
has!
I tried to get them to re-direct earlier payments to the minimum payment,
thus taking their options to hold mail to trigger a late charge out of the
equation, but Artie( a real winner of a customer service rep) said they
can't do that over billing periods.
I think I'll send in separate payments for a week and ask that they hold
them until due for the next 5 billing periods........:):):)

Whatever you do, DON'T OPEN A CREDIT CARD ACCOUNT WITH ORCHARD BANK. I
opened a small credit line about a year and half ago. It was only $200 and
was secured. I wanted a few small lines of credit as I was trying to raise
my credit score. Anyway, after a year and a half of perfectly on-time
overpayments, I decided to close my account. At the time I had a $36
balance, and I was told that that amount would be deducted from the $200 and
I would be refunded the difference. I thought that was the end. Oh no. Ten
days after I closed the account, I received a statement saying that I was
late and I owed $66 (this included the addition of a $30 late charge). I
thought for sure it was a mistake. How can they charge a late fee on a
closed account; after it was closed??? That makes no sense. This was a
secured account? They have MY money? Also, the interest rate on my statement
now showed 67.198%. I called them and was told that although I had closed
the account, I would still be charge!
d fees until the closing had been complete (apparently a 30-day period). Of
course this was never explained to me. Perhaps it was written somewhere in
the size 6 font. Anyway, I was furious to say the least. I was told that if
I didn't pay the money, I would be over 30 days past due and would be
reported to the credit bureaus. I knew how long it could take to dispute the
issues with the credit bureaus, so I felt I had no choice but to pay. I felt
blackmailed truly. Who is protecting the consumer against these credit card
companies? We are being greatly taken advantage of. 67% interest? That's

Ten Things Bill Collectors Don't Want You to Know
by John Barnes

9. They May Not Know a Thing

11. Side Bar--How They Find You
For many people, the cold call from the bill collector is an intimidating
and even humiliating experience. They are unprepared to deal with
collectors, who are trained to handle every type of response. Relentlessly
assertive, collectors focus on "the close" -- your commitment to pay.
The less knowledgeable you are about your rights, the more confident a
collector becomes; the more worried you are, the less concerned the
collector becomes. Collectors know that it's easier to manipulate a
conscientious debtor into a payment plan that benefits the collector, not
the debtor. You'll be in a better position to resist collectors'
pressures, and negotiate a sensible repayment plan, if you're prepared for
the tactics they're likely to use.
Here, then, are ten of the best-kept collection secrets.
1. The More You Pay, the More They Earn
Collectors get commissions -- usually 30 to 50% -- on money they bring in,
which often double or triple their salaries. This means they have a strong
incentive to press for a big "down payment" from you, even if this deepens
the cycle of debt.
Collectors hoping for a big commission may claim that the boss insists on a
big down payment. In fact, blaming it on a mythical manager is designed to
deflect your anger away from the collector.
2. Payment Deadlines Are Phony
Payment deadlines set by collectors are meaningless. Collectors simply want
to create a sense of urgency, because the longer it takes to get you to pay,
the less chance there is of collecting the debt.
3. They Don't Need a 'Financial Statement'
Collectors often claim they need a "financial statement" from you, so they
can work out a realistic repayment plan. You'll notice, though, that the
information they ask for -- bank account numbers, references, place of
employment -- is far more than they need for that purpose. They're fishing
for information that will help them find you if you move or sue you if you
don't repay the debt.
4. The Threats Are Inflated
Collectors always graphically detail the disastrous consequences of failing
to pay a debt. "Your credit rating will be ruined," they warn. (Not
mentioning that it's probably already not so good, since a collection
company is after you.) "Your personal possessions, including your car, could
be seized and sold at a public auction!" (Never mind that this virtually
never happens; it's illegal in some states and impractical because of the
expense.) Probably 95% of the time, collectors go after only bank accounts
and wages.
5. You Can Stop Their Calls
You have the right, under federal law, to tell a collection agency to stop
contacting you. Just do it in writing, and contacts must stop, unless
they're to tell you that collection efforts have ended or the agency is
going to take a specific action (like filing a lawsuit) against you.
6. They Can Find Out How Much You Have in the Bank
A collector who has your bank account and social security numbers can
probably easily find out the balance of the account. Because big banks now
have automated account inquiry systems, the collector doesn't even have to
speak to a human being; all it takes is a phone call to the automated
voice-mail service. When the account number and social security numbers are
punched in, the computer promptly supplies an up-to-the-minute account
balance.
7. If You're Out of State, They're Out of Luck
Collection agencies routinely call out-of-state debtors to demand payment.
But if a creditor has sued you and won, you are probably safe from
enforcement action if you bank and work outside the state where the lawsuit
was filed. That's because to collect, the collection agency must transfer
the judgment to your state, which is prohibitively time-consuming and
expensive.
8. They Can't Take It All
Certain income, such as social security, pensions and 75% of your take-home
pay, is exempt from enforcement action. You can file a claim of exemption
from a garnishment of the other 25% of your wages if it would cause you or
your family severe hardship.
9. They May Not Know a Thing
Sometimes a collection agency lawyer, trying to collect a judgment debt,
sends questions on a court form asking about your income and assets. (These
are called "post-judgment interrogatories" or "information subpoenas.") This
is good news for you -- it means that the agency has no information and is
hoping you will be intimidated enough by this legal questionnaire to
complete it. Many people do, because the forms list sanctions, such as
fines, for not doing so. But normally, it is too expensive and
time-consuming for an agency to go to court and force compliance.
10. You Can Pay Student Loans in Installments
If you are behind on student loans, you can apply for what every collection
agency hates: "reasonable and affordable payments" under the 1992 Higher
Education Act. If you can document financial hardship, a collection agency
must accept as little as $10 per month for at least six months. As long as
you make the payments, you are eligible for Title IV Student Aid, and you
can continue the payments unless your circumstances change.
Thanks and take care... |

Complaint:
I was with Orchard Bank for almost two years with a $2,000 credit limit,
18.40% APR, no annual fee. I received a change of terms notification that
they were raising my rate to 27.9%. When I inquired about the reason, they
told me it was based on information in my credit report. My credit score
was higher than when I opened my account with them and, by their own
admissions, I was an excellent customer with perfect history with them. I
complained about this and asked that they not change the terms. They not
only refused to not raise my rate, they would NOT review my credit and
credit history to give me further justification for the rediculous rate
increase.
Suffice to say, they scammed a perfect customer and I am now paying a
rediculous APR on the card. Rest assured, I am paying more than the minimum
and will pay the card off when I get my annual bonus in March of 2007....and
will cancel the card and NEVER do business with them again.
BTW: Even though they would not budge on the APR issue, they were courteous
enough during our discussions. |

I have never had a card with these people. About two weeks ago, I began to
get dozens of phone calls from HSBC asking for a particular person, whom I
had no knowedgle of. Apparently, he gave them my cell number fraudulently.
The calls came frequently. Twice, I asked them to remove my cell phone
number from the list. But they did not do it. I kept receiving calls.
I was only able to learn who was calling me by looking at caller ID, which
listed 800-684-8429 as the caller's number, and calling the number back.
My advice is: don't do business with HSBC. Their data systems are so messed
up that they can't seem to delete a phone number from their system. If they
can't do that, you don't want to work with them. |

BEWARE stay away from HOUSEHOLD BANK, HSBC, ORCHARD BANK and DIRECT
MERCHANTS. They are thieves and that is why they have to have so many
aliases. These are the same people just different names on the credit cards

Household Bank has made a habit of holding payments to ensure they are "past
due" so they can charge an additional fee. Three months in a row, I paid
well in advance of the due date, only to see on my next statement that they
were ALL applied to the account one day past due. I have been making my
payments electronically through my bank which is a Credit Union. I have
proof from my bank that the payments were made well in advance of the due
date. I have contacted Household and asked them to refund the late fees. I
got the standard we didn't receive it before it was due please see the terms
and conditions....BLAH BLAH BLAH generic programmed answer from someone

Complaint: I send my payment well in advance to HSBC at their City of
Industry, California office. I then check the account on the internet to
see if it has posted. It usually takes ten days or more. We send mail to
North Hills, California all the time and it only takes three days for it to
arrive. Often, an email is sent to get them to post my payment. I will
transfer my balance to another company and close this account as soon as
possible. Section 609 a and b of the Fair Credit Reporting Act states they
must post your payment promptly. If it weren't for constant checking on the
internet, they would probably get me for a late fee charge by holding up my
payment until it was past due. I would recommend this technique for those
who have the internet available to them. |

Complaint:
It is interesting to see so many credit card complaints with Orchard Bank
(AKA HSBC Credit Services). This company is clever--no doubt about it. I,
too, am in the process of rebuilding my credit and mailed an offer by HSBC
Card Services through Orchard Bank to receive an unsecured credit card. I
received the card and was not charged an annual fee--I have paid the card in
full each month (for the last 5 month). I recently received a notice from
Orchard Bank indicating that my fixed APR interest rate is going from 14.90%
(which was bad) to a variable APR of 29.99%. I have never been late and have
never exceeded my generous $300 line of credit, et cetera. Yes,
SallySue (who sounds like a PR person working for HSBC Card Services), I
read the user agreement. But tell me where it says the service agreement
states that there are 10 to 14 day holds on CASHIER'S CHECKS (with notes on
them indicating the same). The user agreement also doesn't let you know
that their CSR's are inept--I mean, this company should be on a Saturday
Night Live skit. Whoever runs their Call Centers should be fired. I am
also canning my account. Buyer beware--you need to really watch this credit
card company if you agree to one of their credit cards. I agree with
several of the other people who have written in--go to your local credit
union or bank and dump HSBC Card Services, Orchard Bank, or whoever they
call themselves this week. Happy Hunting

days). A $39 fee was charged and the interest rate was increased to a
default interest rate of 17.49%. When I called customer service to ask why
they held the payment for so long they denied it despite the facts. I
promptly transferred the balance to another credit card offering better

I have an account with Orchard Bank and will be closing my account ASAP. We
had a death in the family and had to pay final funeral expenses for a 21

payment. So for the one phone call to make payment arrangements three
months ago I was charged $12.50 per month for them to automatically take
money out of my checking account for the last three months. $12.50 x 3 =
$37.50 + over the limit fees for three months. I tried to talk to them
about taking the check by phone fees off and was told once they have been
posted to my account they can not take them off my account. WHAT A RIP-OFF

was taking to someone over on the other side of the world as they could not
even understand me and I could not understand them either!! Most answers
sounded like canned responses. WHAT A JOKE ! ! !

service manager said she would reopen it and if I paid it for 2 straight
months They'd drop the rate. I did. They sent me a note saying - sorry. They
couldn't reopen a closed account! What kind of crap is this? Now I'm going
to have to sue!
them in court - which I will because their customer service is so poor-
automated with exactly the same responses - but from a different (never

call you. You have to call them and then they have no rec ord of your
problem and you have to start from the beginning - after they place you on
hold for 20-30 minutes. If I don't pay - other credit cards will see it and
all raise my rates- This is Racketeering isn't it? Anyone else had

Complaint: I have the card, but will never use it again. I had a balance of
$278.00, just under my $300. credit limit all of a sudden change to $302.00

I made my payment from the statement another over the limit charge, plus
late fee of $30.00. Before I knew it I had over a $422.00 balance. Turtles
move faster than this company. They make most of their money off poor slobs,
who are trying to re-establish credit and they know they can rip us off.
Another rip off example is their taking three days to process a online
payment. All my other online bill payments are done in less then twenty four
hours. Another way for them to make money. Hold off long enough so you
payment is late, even though you made it 3 or 4 days early and voila, a
thirty dollar late charge and hopefully you didn't make a large enough
payment, so over the limit charge again. I'm really not sure how they get

Complaint: I had 2 accounts with household bank. One a Gold Mastercard and
one a Visa Priveledge. I called because I made a payment to the wrong card.
The Associate advised me that I can conver my accounts into One Card to
avoid any future mistakes. Before this , I confirmed I made an error and
asked that the amount of 500.00 to be transferred to the Privledge card
because of the overpayment to my gold account. So before any conversion
began , I asked the associate to make sure the transfer was cancelled. She
comfirmed nothing showing on the system . So we were at a go, I was advised
that the Privledge would be cancelled and to stop using it for 11-14 days .
So at that time I simply cut it up. She then advised the good history I had
on my gold account and transferred me to an accoouont manager for a limit
increase. At this moment , I could not ask for a better card. This was on
Feb 7, 2007. Feb 16 , I log on to my accounts , my gold card is overdrawn
900.00 . OMG! Why would!
they allow my account to overdraw . Simply because that transfer request
was never cancelled. So what now. .. I was told.. this is an attempt to
collect a debt.... Now I am treated like this? So i get this account manager
, her name is Sherry , after explaining the whole situation to her , she
says " So Exactly how can I help you"? Whats done is done??? WOW , So much
for being a great customer. Then as my heart rate is incresing by the minute
on this horrible call. I am then told the request the customer service
associcate did on the 7th of Feb, was not approved.... I never knew there
was an approval. I was dumb founded on how great I was to how horrible I was
in a week. So now im fed up . My credit rating is decent , I dont need these
cards. So i call to close them out. In the mean time my Privledge card now
had an Overpayment because of the 500.00 transfer that took place to my
account. Would you believe the agent advised me that she cannot tranfer that
money back to my !
household gold card , there is no way it can be done , and it was confirmed
by a manager who is going to mail me this 250.00 check that was overpayed so
I can cash it to only pay them back to the gold account. Well if this was a
policy , how did they allow a 500.00 transfer to take effect to the
Privledge card , when the check clearly stated it was payable to my master
card gold account... shady dont you think. So now im just exhausted. I
called household to close my account s, I didnt even care about the cash
back rewards, i didnt care about lower rates , I was just fed up. The
attutides changed so much in a week , its like a bi-polar facility. So where
is this great customer appreciation. Still I am stuck with an overdraft fee
that never happens on any of my accounts, and i am stuck with household
reporting a high balance on my credit report, I 700.00 max credit limit is
now close to 1,0000 that was not even supposed to happen. Funny thing is ,
there are notations becuase !
I told the banker to note them. I had this company for 4 years. I would
advise anyone interested in a house hold account to be careful of who they
talk to , and who advises you for something this is not even true. Dont let
this happen to you. Thanks for reading . |

Complaint_against: HSBC Bank-credit card
Complaint:
I recently cancelled a card in December 2006. This request was mailed, in
writing, with the final payment on the account. As a result of not being
able to cancel auto payments through online accounts, a credit balance was
formed. I called the company, again requesting a cancellation on the card
and a refund of the credit balance, and to cancel the online payments. The
next month, there was another automatic online payment, resulting in
additional credit balance. I again called the company to verify cancellation
and request refund of credit balances.
Eventually, I received the refund, but received another bill for the exact
refund amount. I disputed the charge through the online link and called
customer service again. I was told that the company made an error in
refunding "too much" and we were to return the amount. Since when is a
customer responsible for the company's mistakes? Now, I see that there is a
$35 late charge on the account and it is showing delinquent, affected my
credit status. The only balance is the disputed amount and I am not supposed
to get charged for that amount, which I also confirmed with customer
representatives. In fact, the account balance should be $0 and I should not
be responsible for company errors.
Each time my wife called to handle these issues, I have had to give
permission to add her name as a contact so she can take care of issues in my
absence. Is there no documentation done with each customer service contact?
The site specifically states to add an authorized user. "In order to process
your request, please contact us to speak a Customer Care representative".
I cannot tell you names of representatives. They have been very difficult to
understand due to them not speaking appropriate English. Are they not an
American company? Automated phone message indicates to "press #1" for
Spanish, but they don't have anyone speaking English. This terrible service
does not support the company mission."That's why we look at all our
customers individually and strive to provide them with personalized service
and credit products that fit their specific needs."
We have not been able to get adequate service on this issue, the account is
closed, and I should not be responsible for any balances resulting from your
company errors. I have been an excellent customer with this company, and I
have been getting nothing but irreprehensible service, just to cancel an
account, no less. |

Complaint:
Saw a complaint here against HSBC / Direct Merchants Bank regarding Saturday
due dates. The same thing happened to me, they are thieves. I filed
complaints with the Better Business Bureau and the Comptroller of the
Currency (Treasury Dept) HSBC's primary regulator.
HSBC Bank Nevada N.A. is fraudulently misrepresenting payment due dates.
They will bill a customer stating the due date is a Saturday. When the
customer pays on Saturday he is charged a late fee of $39.00. HSBC's
response for the late fee is that they do not post payments on Saturdays.

Complaint:
I applied for a 0% balance transfer 3 months ago with HSBC. First problem,
they did not transfer what I requested. They transfered a much smaller
amount. No good for me. Now I just have yet another payment to make.
Seondly, got my first bill well after it was due. I called, got the late
fess reversed and then went through a lentghy discussion on when the payment
swill be due. Next month, I paid in plenty of time even though again, I
didn't have my bill yet. They took at least ten days to process my last
payment and still weren't showing my second payment. They were not charging
me fees this time. I called them several more times discussing at length
when the payments would be due, how soon I would them mailed (automaticall)
so that they would consistently get my payments on time. And also how the
devil long it takes them to "process". This went on three months. I still
had 0% interest, but I did not want to go through worrying about their
questionably practices!
of "processing anymore. I researched them online and found a lot of folks
with problems. So I called them, told them to cancel my account. I wanted
to know the exact dollar amount I owed and sent the payment right away with
a letter reiterating I closed my account. Now I get a bill still showing I
owe, but my 0% interest is now 19.99. No record of late payments and I was
supposed to have 0% for several more months. I call. i now have an extra
$30.71 in interest to pay. I call and after a lengthy discussion and sent
to the "cancellation" department. What this really is..is the you can't
cancel and let us ignore your pleas. I spoke with that representative who
told me a) no notes on me canceling, b) they don't accept letters, c) they
can waive me $30.71 if I keep my account open and will REDUCE my interest to
13. something interest. Reduce? It was ZERO! I insisted they close my
account and get rid of the bogus interest. I was told they can raise my
interest. I!
next talked to a supervisor who again refused to close my account. Denied
they don't accept letters and refused to waive my interest fee saying it was
impossible. I said, well, if I keep my account open, and the previous lady
waived the interest, then I have a zero balance. Then close my account. He
said no, I would have terms that would require my account open. Fine, for
how long? I just won't use it? Never got an answer. So I once again
insisted he close the account. I literally had to start screaming "CLOSE MY
ACCOUNT" about 7 or 8 times before he would agree. At this writing I still
have an interest fee. Now it is clear they did get my notice to close my
account, why else would they suddenly decide to charge me interest? Yet
they denied getting proper notice. One last thing. They said between March
10th and April 4th, they recieved three payments from me. And because I had
paid in full, not by the end of the month, they can charge me interest.
WHAT??? Then I got the corporate address. Said they couldn't give me a
number to call, that corporate only communicated by fax. sigh.
Unbelievable. I am now going to report them to every government agency I
can find. |

Complaint: I called the above creditor with a complaint that the APR had
gone up too much - to 18.9 percent. They stated that they could not do
anything - and was quite rude in telling me, which influenced me in closing
my account - with a small balance - Wouldn't you know it, they raised my APR
to 39.9, yes 39.9 no typo here, for the remaining balance of 1k. I suggest
that everyone watch out for this creditor so you won't get screwed. |

Complaint: I got a statement from HSBC saying I should pay $45 becuase my
annual fee was coming around in the next month. I mailed them a check for
$65 so I could cover the fee and my usual payment. My balance was $225. I
start getting calls about 3 weeks later saying my balance was $505 and
asking how I wished to pay down my balance. I politley asked who they
thought they were pulling a fast one on. He said they hadn't received
payment. My annual fee had posted amd put me over my credit limit. (I refuse
credit limit increases when I get them because I KNOW I overspend and the
low limit makes me use cash instead) BUT at this time they added the 29
dollar late fee, and a 35 dollar over the limit fee, as well as the 45
dollar annual....then added another over the limit fee and lots of other
trash. I told the girl I'd pay the $200 payment if she'd kick the fees...I
DID send the check and have ALWAYS paid on time for over 2 years now, have
no other deliquencies on any other card! ...or loans. They knew they
were wrong. After 2 hours of arguing, she took off all the fees but $15 and
I did make the payment over the phone but was charged $14 for that also. I
am not dealing with them and the account is paid down to $12 and will be
cancelled when I close on my house with my husband next month. The payment
that I sent posted to my checking account in the amount of $65 less than 2
days later...(they had the payment but chose to hold it to see if they could
pull a fast one on me) I REFUSE to deal with companies like that and don't
suggest it for anyone else. |

Complaint: I have had a Best Buy credit card for several years- I purchased
a flat screen tv High Def in 2006. Best Buy automatically put me on a
deferred finance plan. I paid off the deferred finance charges of over
$1,600 in series of payments ( all made in one statement period) in April
2007 by the deadline. They charged me all of the finances charges anyway. I
called customer service and spend an hour on the phone with a representative
and his manager. They apologied and removed the charges. May 11th the
charges were reapplied to my account- without any explaination or
notification. This is the most unethical and predatory company out there.
I was just ripped off by $1,600- paying a lot more for my TV. I will never
patronize Best Buy again. |

Complaint_against: Household Bank (Credit Card)
Complaint:
If you get an offer from Household run, don't stop until you see the name
Household well out of your sight.
Received a credit card offer with 0% interest, $750.00 credit limit. Made
payment online, Household accepted payment online, did not post any "late
fees/overlimit fees" when payment was made to and accepted by Household.
The next day, after payment had been accepted Household adds a $35.00 late
fee and $35.00 overlimit fee. That's right, after payment was accepted
online. Make note that there was no notice or postings that payment was
"LATE" or OVERLIMIT" when payment was made and payment was accepted by
Household. They came up with some lame excuse that they could add these
fees "at their discretion." That's an additional $70.00 added to an account
"AFTER" payment was accepted and when there was no mention of payment being
late. Household SUCKS big time.
Additionally, less than a year after my 0% interest card was received, my
interest rate jumped to 29.74%. When I questioned Household Bank about this
sudden jump in interest, with no notice, they stated that it was based on my
credit report. So I go and pull up my credit report and of course Household
"NEVER" inquired on my credit during the time in question. It's one excuse
after the other with them.
Household needs to be put out of business big time and sanctioned and fined
for each and every consumer they have "RIPPED OFF." It does no need to
complain because to Household they are always in the right.
Household does not comply with the FCRA and it's sad because we, the
consumers, must suffer for all the unscrupulous acts that Household is able
to get away with.
It's time for the government regulators to do something about the sneaky
tactics Household gets away with. |

I have two acc.'s with Household Bank and Orchard Bank which are owned by
HSBS. Send both payments to same address. Payments for both card were $15
each. I sent a Check for $100 ($50 for each acc.) With check I put in a note
the acc. #'s and that $50 was to go to each a acc. Two weeks later a
get a phone call from some where overseas by a person that could not really
understand, so I called right back to find out the problem. The
problem was that they took the check and put it all in one acc. So on one
acc. of $278 with a %9 interest rate and a payment of $15 I was charged $35
late charge. The late charge put me over the limit, so I was charged another
$35. In the end I'm paying $75 on a $15 payment that I sent in and HSBC put
in another acc. Their come back was was sent in one check and payment at a
time. Who do they have working for them monkeys. I'm trying to correct my
credit, but I won't be able these people or should I say rip-off artist. I
also find that you never talk to the same person and that you also get a

Complaint: It is unreal what this company does to its customers. I have been
charge so many late fees that I can't count them and everyone has been from
fees they have applied to my account. You make your payment before your due
date and it does you no good at all. They will come up with some fee to rip
you off. I have both cards and I have to say the Orchard Bank is by far the
worst. I even spoke to a supervisor who looked at my account and admited all
the over the limit fees I had been charged was do to their tricky charges.
Dealing with them is a no win situation! I cut my card up and will struggle
for a long time to get rid of them and try to save my credit. Anyone who is
thinking of dealing with them better listen to all the warnings here. They
are all true and hopefully will protect you from being a vicitim of theirs. |

Complaint:
My creditcard number was stolen and tried to used fradulently. company
warned me and told me that they are cancelling my account against fraulent
activity. Probably due to mastercard blunder that cost 4 million credit card
numbers.
Because due date was coming I tried to pay my bill. I always used internet
beacuse I do not believe that I have to pay $12 for a check payment, which I
believe is a clear definition of highway robbery.
I could not use my online account to pay my bill. I called customer service,
tried to tell the situation but rep tried to tell me that only option is to
pay $12, just to be able to make a payment.(this is not the payment, this is
the fee to be able to make a payment, otherwise $35). I asked for a
supervisor. She helped me alot!! and made a discount, %50!.I have to still
pay for the payment. Which I could be able to do it free, days before. Now
because they cancelled my account, without informing me that I would not be
able to post my payments, I am thinking that this is a scam to rip more
money out of our pockets.
I told them to charge me $35, and will cancel my card. Orchardbank is a
lousy, pickpocket company be advised. If anybody knows that they cannot do
this, i do not care about the costs of legal action or whatsoever, please
letme know. I already decided to pay full and close the account and took the
$35 late fee charge. |

Complaint: I started receiving emails from Orchard Bank several months ago
telling my my payment was due, then late, then Thanking me for my payment.
The problem was I have never HEARD of Orchard Bank and never done business
with them or any of their affiliates. I called them and they wanted my SS#
to verify my account (which I don't have). They wouldn't give me any info
they had regarding me, but wanted me to give them all my info. Every time I
received emails from them in the future I would reply that they had the
wrong person. I finally got ugly in my replys, but they just kept sending
me statement info, with no account# info. I finally got them for
HARRASSMENT because coincidentally everytime I responded to them I would be
bombarded with Lotto winning notifications. They refused to do ANYTHING to
solve this problem without my SS# or my home address and personal info! I
DON"T THINK SO!! Then I finally read these SCAM REPORTS and their name is a

Complaint:
I too have been a victim of Orchard Bank. I had my account paid off and
tried to close the account because of the high interest rate. They talked
me into keeping it and gave me a lower rate. The only problem with that is,
my card expired and I never received a new one. I called and they said it
was in the mail. It has been in the mail since July of 2005. Everytime I
call they tell me it has been sent. The excuses vary every time I call.
Once it was there was a problem in their mail room. The last time I was
told they ran out of plastic but the situation has been corrected. That was
a month ago. In the meantime they have charged me another annual fee. I
tried to close the account but they told me I couldn't do that because my
account does exist. I can't use it because I have no card. Talking to a
supervisor doesn't help. They just keep repeating the same thing without an
result. I have just written my last check to them. I just received further
email correspo!
ndence from them telling me I can call and make my payment for the annual
fee over the phone with an additional charge of $12.50. As soon as my check
clears I am going to contact the State Attorney Generals in all the states
that they have addresses in and file a formal complaint. These people have
been so difficult to deal with. I think they are committing the biggest
fraud going. They are charging customers for absolutely no service
whatsoever. Annual fees are paid in advance. So far I have not had the use
of a card since July. |

Complaint_against: Complainers of ORCHARD BANK
Complaint: Honestly, does anyone read what's called the "terms and
agreement"? Credit card companies do not send these out to just be thrown
away. They are to be read, you want to know what you're agreeing to.
Annual Membership fees on the credit cards are supposed to be charged in
advance. ALL of the Mastercard companies did have a delay with plastics--
that is the truth. Where the credit card companies purchase there plastics
from ran out because of the holiday rush-- not the credit card companies
fault. The check by phone fee should be waived when a customer is having a
problem paying a payment over the internet due to their account number being
changed (unless it's the customer's error). The 12.95 check by phone fee
is in place because it's a convenience option-- you're going to pay more for
a cooked pizza, then a frozen one from the local supermarket. Plus, for all
the calls customer service receives to process a check by phone, that
customer service represent!
ative needs to have a paycheck as well. When you wait to pay your bill at
the last minute, it's going to cost you extra. There's plenty of other
payment options that cost either .39 for a stamp or online for no cost, plus
now you can pay at any branch. No one can say they don't have a local
library nearby to go online. The internet is everywhere. Also, not a one
of the customer service representatives would refuse to close an account.
They have to, it's plain and simple. If you state you wanted to close your
account, they might ask why to try and save your business-- but they will
close it. |

I have an account with Orchard Bank and I was aware of thje annual fee up
front, so that was no surprise to me however they also told me they "ran out
of plastic" what was suppose to take my card 3 days to get to me ended up
taking 5 weeks.... They did credit me back the express shipping charge but
wouldnt budge on anything else.
The MAIN thing that makes me want to leave this company is: I made a payment
by money order in the amount of $350 to pay my balance in full.
They recieved my payment on the 7th, today is the 12th and it's showing as
posted to my account however the money will not be available to me for 14
days !!!!!
It's bull**** If i make a payment on my credit card, as soon as they get the
$$$ it should be available to me, I do understand if it were a personla
check they were waiting to clear, but they also do the same thing with
checks, it will clear your bank account in 2 days but you must wait 2 weeks
for it to become available to you.
I already paid my $80 annual fee, so i will stick it out the rest of the
year but after that I'm definately leaving this company.
If i'm doing the right thing by making my payments on time as well as paying
the balance off why should i have to be penalized for the ? |
