BEWARE OF AMERICAN EXPRESS CARD
When you use American express for balance transfer DO NOT USE THIS FOR ANY
PUECHASE AFTER YOU MADE A BALANCE TRANSFER.
Whatever amount you pay ( even if you two different checks one for balance
transfer and another for towards your purchase } American express will
credit the paid amount towards your balance transfer since the interest rate
will be low for balance transfer and will start charging high interest rate
for your purchases. You cannot escape until all the balance is paid off.
Best way to beat American express do not purchase after the balance
transfer. |

Complaint: Previous comment is a true statement. American Express is
shooting themselves in the foot. I have a $25,000 balance at 3.9% until
paid-off. If they applied repayments proportionately, I would use the card
for purchases, but I don't, so they are the losers. |

Complaint:
I am writing to warn everyone out there about the worst credit card company
out there... American Express. I have, or had, a Blue card, and was sent
this mailing with transfer checks that had a 5.99% fixed rate and no
transaction fees, supposedly. Well, just make sure you don't write these to
yourself, otherwise the jackasses at AMEX will stick you with cash advance
fees as well as nearly a 20% interest rate.
I put the check in my bank account becuse I pay my other credit card online,
and that is how I make my payments.
When I called AMEX to complain, the flat out didn't give a crap, and did
absolutely nothing for me. Hell, they didn't even care that I wanted to
cancel my card(which I did).
I get offers like this from all my credit card companies, and none of the
others care what I use the checks for. After all, it is the same in the
end, that they are loaning me money.
I urge anyone never to get an AMEX card, and to be careful of the b.s. that
they have going on. Plus, they really don't give a crap about you. They
have made some good money off me, but don't even care about losing a 6 year
customer over a stupid advance fee. Well, the good news is that they will
never get another cent from me, ever. |

Complaint:
I had a Blue Card and a Green Card from AMEX. About 2 years ago I was
mugged, and I lost both cards. I called AMEX immed. to cancel them. They
said they did, but they didnt. When the false charges began rolling in, the
forced me to pay them, or suffer "legal action". This was with them
acknowledging my cards were stolen, and the charges not mine. I paid the
cards and after months of fighting got them to close the accounts.
However, later AMEX reopened the charge card themselves. There added 2k of
charges on the card, and I disputed. They hung up on me, after refusing to
listen to my disputes( I had been calling for months) and sent me to
collections to steal the money from me. I paid it and closed the account-
but they keep reopening it and adding more charges.
I called to ask about the status of my card and was told I "overpaid" the
account, and that all my balances were ZERO. One rep offered me a check
refund. I reported them to the FIC, and then received a letter in the mail
saying no check will be sent because my account is no longer overpaid, but
infact 120 days past due, with a debt of $1726.
They sent the "updated" info to the credit bureaus, who i had ivestigate the
senario.
PLEASE NEVER GET ANYTHING WITH AMEX..... Truly evil |

Complaint:
How is this for the latest scam on credit card holders, and by no less than
American Express.
On April 7 I received an email from American Express notifying me that
payment for my March statement "is due on 4/14/2005," only seven days
later. I pay my bills using a computer banking program which requires at
least five days to send out a payment. Incensed at this unreasonably short
due date, I called American Express to complain.
The person with whom I spoke said that I really have 30 days from the
closing date on the statement, but the company puts the earlier date on
notices "to keep people from waiting until the last minute and being late."
When I spoke to a supervisor, he verified this. He was emphatic, but not
apologetic, that no matter what the statement or email says, my card
agreement controls and I have 30 days from the closing date. According to
him the computer does not know the date my payment is due. It just puts in
a uniform date for everyone.
Is this incompetence on the part of the company? Every other credit card
company has figured out how to program a computer to put in the true due
date. Why can't AmEx?
Or is it an effort to increase profits by misleading their card holders and
spurring them to pay in half the agreed upon time? The notice which I
received was certainly deceptive, since it erroneously said that the payment
was due two full weeks before the actual date. |

I am writing to complain about American Express and the Gold Card. Ii
received this card through a telephone solicitation with the promise of
double points. Although I have held the green card for 15 years, the gold
card could not be placed on extended payment because apparently, the
extended payment on my green card was not available. I continue to pay on
the extended payment plan on the green card. American Express now has a
hold on both of my cards because according to their policy I must pay the
full amount on my gold card. They refuse to work out a payment plan and now
threaten to turn me over to the credit bureau even though I have faithfully
made monly payments to american Express. This company works a scam. A
promise of extra miles if you use their gold card but they tie it to the
green card and then refuse to extend credit payments regardless of how
faithfully you make payments. I have always used American Express. I was
caught in this bind because of telephone
solicitation. Be forewarned and be careful when these scam artists
telephone you with their offers! In addition, American Express outsources
their public relations. Good luck if you ever hope to be understood by a
representative who cannot depart from the few words of English that they
have been taught. This is no longer an American company. |

Complaint:
First off, I am no sure if I am posting this in the right place, but AMEX is
involved. I admit, I am someone who had some credit problems in the past
due to unfortunate circumstances in which I will not get into. Here is my
problem. For two years I have been faithful to all my credit card payments
including AMEX. I was working through a debt consolidation company to help
me. Last month I decided my debt consolidation company wasn't doing as good
as a job as they could have been so I decided to take it back in my own
hands. After speaking the Amex's CCS, Consumer Credit Servies I believe,
they said that as long as I make my payment by April 30th, I would be fine
and would be able to continue making the payments I was making with the debt
company. April 1st I sent my check, April 20th it came back in the mail
saying insuffiecient address. I called them up to confirm the address and
was informed that my account left there offices and was sent to
collections. I spoke t!
o someone at CCS who said the info I received about when to make payment was
wrong and there is nothing they can do for me. Not what I wanted to hear.
I then called RMA which is the collections agency. The woman I am dealing
with is a sweetheart and I can hear that she actually would love to help
me. She said she spoke to her manager about my situation and I need to make
a payment I can not afford by the 28th or my file will be sent to a law firm
for litigation. Keep in mind, that I was told that I could make a payment
to CCS up until the end of the month. Within a week and a half they want
payment of alot more than I can afford or Legal action will be taken. To
top it off, I asked to speak to the supervisor at RMA, Mr. Roy Clevinger. I
was telling him my problem when he cut me off and said he appreciated my
story but her expects payment by the 28th. As he was telling me this he
started to raise his voice in a nasty tone to which I polietly asked him to
stop getting nasty. He then threatened me and said he would have my file in
a lawyers office in five seconds and told me to calm myself.
Now I understand that AMEX wants their money, and as I stated, they have
received money every month for the past two years. While my payments were
not huge, they weren't exactly small either. I paid off two of my cards
last month in which I believe my credit rating went up a bit only to be shot
back down by having my account in collections.
I was told I can sue because of the business practice of Roy Clevinger of
RMA, but I am not like that. I am going to pay off what I owe to AMEX.
All I ask is that AMEX look into there partnership with RMA and keep an eye
on Roy Clevinger and his threats to customers.
Of course I can not find a way to contact AMEX to complain so I had to use
this site.
Anyone have a similar experience? Email me. |

Complaint: I would like to point out a very unfair practice of this credit
card company of basing the finance charges on the average daily balance of
the whole cycle instead of what is left unpaid. I have faithfully paid my
bills in full every month except for last month. The bill was for $2787.41
due on 5/18. I arranged for it to be paid online at the due date for the
amount of $2000 and made another payment online on 5/26 for $500. So,you
would think I only owe them $287.41 and finance charges would be based on
this amount. I was charged $22.36 based on the average daily balance of
$2623.57 and APR of 10.72. Now the average daily balance was calculated on
that month's cycle not on this month's billing cycle of which I owe $1228. I
do not begrudge them any finance charge but only that which is fair. I do
not think it is fair to be charged interest on the amount I have already
paid. I called their number to ask why the finance charge was based on the
average daily amount and!
was first given the answer that the amount was based on the average daily
balance multiplied by the average daily percentage rate which I could see
from my statement but I still couldn't understand why this is so. Got
transferred to a lady named Myrna who was at the get go sounded annoyed and
made it clear from her voice that I was stupid for not understanding where
the $22.36 is coming from even though I tried to tell her, despite numerous
times of being interrupted, that I actually know how the amount was arrived
at. Finally, tersely and pointedly, I told her that I do know HOW the amount
was arrived but want to know WHY the amount was based on the average daily
balance and not the balance unpaid. I was cut off mid sentence and told to
wait. I was getting steamed up but agreed politely. On hold for 10 minutes
and was told that this was per card agreement. Then I asked that this
agreement be sent to my address so that I can review it again. I do not know
how it could be fa!
ir that interest charges are made on average daily balances and not on the
amount unpaid. Imagine if I just paid the minumum amount of that month of
$26 the finance would have been the same since it is not based on the amount
owed but on the average daily balance. All in all this practice is very
unfair and the customer service is rude and unhelpful. |

Complaint:
Recently amex sent me an alert of unusual activity. I checked it and found
that it was indeed a fradulent charge. I informed amex within hours. Next
day I disputed it as soon as I saw it in my statement. After 30 days, amex
closed investigation and billed me for fradulent charge without removing it
from my account at all. I called up again and they mentioned that they are
unable to contact merchant and that's why they closed investigation. They
would not remove amount from my statement and simply wanted me to dispute
again. It would mean that they will again take 30 days and on top of that I
may have to pay late fee or charges in case they close investigation again
without any result. I ended up paying the amount for the time being and will
close account tommorrow as soon as payment is posted.
I was a member of amex since 2000. All claims of fraud protection are false.
They would not remove $68.04 fraud charges. Wasted hours over the phone.
Therefore please be careful dealing with Amex. Customer service horrible.
They would not let you know the real story. It happened twice with
me(misinformation). No more !! That's enough. |

Complaint:
I must confess I've had mostly good service from Amex.
I would recommend them over most others (see my BoA complaint).
My main issue with them is once when I changed companies
and got a new corp card they credited the wrong card
when I made payments.
It was their fault (I even wrote the account number on the checks)
yet they kept crediting the wrong account.
I took me 2 payment cycles to catch this.
When I called they said they had to credit the account
that was due first.
The problem is by this time my mis-directed payments to the old account
exceeded the amount owed and getting them to credit the overpayment to the
new account was like pulling teeth.Multiple calls, phone run-around.
It finally got straightened out but it took a little while.
If you have multiple cards, pay close attention to the details. |

Complaint_against: Disgruntled AMEX Card Members
Complaint:
I used to work for American Express. I was a Customer Service Rep. and
handled hundreds of calls per day. I heard every story imaginable and saw
how the company treated its card members on various and difficult
circumstances.
The bottom line is that AMEX is not only fair with their card members, but
often they will go out of their way to please and satisfy those card
members.
Most of the complaints I dealt with were from people who never bothered to
read their card member agreements and were irresponsible in managing their
accounts. You can't imagine how many people are unable to read and
understand their own monthly statements, or even perform simple math to
balance their accounts.
American Express will setup a dispute for any questionable charge on you
account quickly and over the phone. Try that with any other credit card
company.
At the same time, the great majority of AMEX card members are very loyal and
successfully manage their accounts, many of them over decades.
Yes, we were trained to inform callers of new products and services, many of
which are beneficial to the card members and also make more money for AMEX.
But you will never be signed up for anything without first being read a full
disclosure statement and without giving your explicit consent.
Don't get me wrong. Nothing is perfect and sometimes an employee will act
inappropriately or AMEX will make a mistake. But this is very rare indeed.
AMEX records all telephone calls and strictly evaluates employees on their
behavior.
I respect everyone's opinion and understand that every one has a different
experience and perspective.
Remember that it is usually the unhappy people that make the most noise and
complain. For every one of those unhappy ones, there are thousands of happy
and satisfied customers.
I have since moved on to bigger and better things in my life. I am now a
card member myself (I was not at the time), so now I get to experience the
other end of the world class service that American Express is known for. |

Complaint:
I have been an American Express customer for many years. Our company
excepts the card as well. Recently a harmless mistake was made when an
employee of the company swipe our card in our machine. I had left our card
to pay for a delievery on the desk. The customer had handed their card to
pay for their bill and it fell from the counter onto the desk. The employee
pick up the wrong card and swiped it. The card was declined and he told the
customer who was very upset. When the card was given back to the customer
he said that it wasn't his card. The very imbarrased employee told him he
was sorry. The customer laughed and said he would just pay with his check
instead. The issue seemed fixed.
Well that wasn't the case. I later got another call from an employee who
said his card was declined. The cards are all American Express. I knew the
bills were paid and in good standing, so I gave them a call. They said that
my card was swipped in my own company machine. I didn't know that when I
called, so I had ask what had happened. I was told what happened and
explained to the person who represented American Express. They treated me
like thief. There was no concern as to what happend but only it had
happened and was against the rules. All of my American Express cards were
to be canceled and all balances were to be paid in 90 days. This was one of
the worst things to happen to anyone who has a small business and carries
balances on there cards. I am not exactly sure how I am going to pay this
large amount of money in such a short time.
So to anyone who has this card, beware!!! This company will turn on you in
an instance with no concern for you at all. I was a Platinum Card holder so
I can just say I know. |

I have been an American Express card memeber for many years. I had both corp

my Amex accounts both for businees travel for myself and employees on
business trips but also for personal travel. American Express shut down all
of my accounts both business and personal, with out giving me the
opportunity to defend myself, they accused me of using my personal card to
dump money into my company. When I submitted copies of invoice and purchased
merchandice, totalling the exact ammounts, they refused give me a person
handling my account, refused an appeal and would not allow me to dispute. I
lost tens of thousands of dollars in revenues and sales, that were already
in process that they declined and shut all 5 accounts both personal and
corprate down. When I submitted letters, tried to speak to a person in
charge of my account, they did !
not respond to any of my request. All cards were paid in full except one,
that I refused to pay due to the damages they caused and lack of getting a
response. They immediatly started reporting negativly on my personal credit
in regards to a corp card.
Not until I let the account run 90 days past due would anyone from American
Express speak to me. At that point they stressed it was too late to do
anything and they would not appeal or review. Nor would they retract what
they reported on my credit even if I agreed to pay the agreed balance in
full. I spent 10 years supporting American Express in full wit 2 business
as a merchant, as a personal card holder and as a corprate card holder. I
utilizes all aspects of their business services to run my company and then
they with out any opportunity to defend their alligation, had all business
service shut dow and personal credit damaged. I still at no time have been
given an opportunity to speak to any one at American express that has
control of these processes. |

Complaint: I have been an AMEX customer for 28 years. They recently called

When I tried to use the replacement card they refused to honor it due to
"suspicious activity!!!! I am a long time perfect payment history

address the matter, telling me that the card would "most likely" be usable
without delay at checkout after the next billing cycle once they ensured I
was the person who rec'd the replacement card "due to fraud on the

"why am I arguing about using a product from a company that does't care
about their customers?" I am transferring my earned AmEx miles to Delta and
cutting my Platinum Card into little pieces! Mine is not a huge account to

over $400k to the card. Based on other postings to this site it appears
AmEx is losing a lot of customers, as they should until someone recognizes
the value of treating customers with respect. They will never get another
penny of my money directly or indirectly through charging their exhorbitant
fees to merchants. Indeed, most merchants with which I have dealt in Europe
won't even accept AmEx due to the obscene charges! Interestingly, I came

.I had an account with American Express in good standing since 1988
.In May 2006, I requested a Debt Management Plan from American Express. It
was subsequently denied, although after numerous conversations with American

.During the period in which this denial was being processed, I paid Consumer

.American Express subsequently raised my interest rate to 20% from 9.99%. I

to try to remedy the interest rate situation with American Express, I
refused to make payments on 20% interest rates.
.Therefore, my interest rate went up to 30% on the next bill. Lucky me. I
spent many hours on the phone with American Express representatives, and
expressed my willingness to catch the bill up when and if the interest rate
was lowered to my previous rate. I had no luck.
.American Express subsequently sent the account to collections to an agency
in Texas. They helped me to refinance my home, so I could pay off the
principal amount that I owed American Express, prior to the 20 & 30%
interest rates.
.I paid the full amount of principal owed to American Express, in the amount
of $17,000 in October 2006.
*Since then I have been sent to a collections agency for the balance, to
which $100 is added in interest and late charges. The total amount now
hovers at $2900 of 30% interest charges, upon interest charges and late
fees. I am still refusing to pay these outrageous charges.
Is anyone interested in joining together to investigate a class action law
suit that challenges the Bankrupcy Law passed in 2005 by Washington that is
making this possible? |

I was very much unhappy with their service. About a month ago, I was
shopping in a local telecom service center for a mobile phone, but my
American Express card got error all the time. I didn't owe them a penny and
was wondering what's wrong with it. After calling to American Express, and
after 15 minutes stand-still in the shop with a dozen eyes on me, I got a
reply that it's just their system error.
Now, I got their statement to charge me for the annual fee which I do not
think they worth it, I told them just to cancel my card as I seldom use it.
They do not apologize nor try to convince me to use it, try their service
again, the customer service officer only said that should I cancel it now or
in month end?
Could we call this service? |

Complaint:
Like several other complaints on this site, I to had an American Express
card for years, eventually having a gold card, an Optima Account and a blue
card for my wife. After 30 years of good credit, my wife and I became over
extended on credit cards and decided to enter a debt management plan.
American Express refused to particpate and asked us for payment in full,
which was $30,000. They first sent the account to a collection agency but
then, after se sent a cease and desist to the collection company, they
retrieved the file and we worked out a repayment plan. I am now paying $800
a month to Amex to try and pay this off. However, the kicker is that they
are charging me 30.24% interest and a late fee every month. As a result
since mid-2006, I have paid Amex over $7000 and the principal has only been
reduced by $400!! I figured out that I continue with this, it will take me
over 40 years and $384,000 to pay off this debt.
I just sent a letter to Sen. Caril Levin and Sen. Chris Dodd as they are
investigating credit card companies abusive practices. I encourage anyone
in a similar situation to write these senators as well as the media to stop
these predatory practices. |

Complaint: I had more problems with American Express than any credit card
I've ever had. Every month, I paid off the balance so there was no problem
with that. However, there were always little extra charges that made no
sense and twice I had charges on the card made by someone else. I decided
to close the account and they absolutely would not do it. I wrote them and
I called them, month after month after month, but they refused to close the
account and on every statement, I was charged a $10 fee. I finally
threatened to go to the Attorney General and voila, the account was closed.
The process took almost a year. It was outrageous. |

I had an Amex blue card for awhile. Carrying about a $1300 balance. Recently
went on vacation and forget to pay my $27 minimum payment. Paid as soon as I
got home electronically. Was five days late. Next bill came. I was charged a
$38 dollar late fee and my rate was raised to 30.21% Yes that's correct. My
FICO score is like 800. Called Amex and all I got was someone in the
Philipines who couldn't speak english. Went to the Amex website and there is
a code of conduct letter signed by the CEO:
When I read it I almost puked. This guy Chenault either has no clue what is
going on in his company or he is the most unethical crook the world has ever
seen. I paid off my card in two days and will never use an Amex product for
the rest of my life. Chenault and company can stick things where the sun
never shines. Senator Dodd and Senator Levin had better do something about
these crooks. Anyplace else and this stuff would be considered
larceny.Federal Government are you lsitening to these complaints????? |

Complaint:
Lets start off by saying that my credit score is 800 plus, I have had
American Express for years, (30,000.00 limit on blue)I was offered a 3.9
interest rate for 1 year and I wrote a check for 13,500.00 for
software and another to Dell for a server for 3,900.00.
everyhing went well until about 2 months before everything was paid in
full. I had sent in the required payments, usually made 2
payments per month just to make sure they couldn't play games with
me. The last few months I went to one since there was little chance of
getting srewed by them, well I was wrong! Two payments were posted in
the same month so of course they didn't recieve a payment for the next
month. It arrived one day before the closing date! They cut my credit line
from 30k to 3,900.00
Which was what I owed! I called and went over everything with them. They
said yes you are correct, you did make your payments. Nothing we can about
it. So I sent a payment in full and canceled both cards I also
restricted acceptance of american express at our company! Not accepted for
anything over $300.00! They are real winners at American Express!
Keep up your good work and winning over customers they way you have been!
I will never have another one in my wallet! |

Complaint: Do not transfer your balances to American Express. They engage
in the old "Bait and Switch". I transferred a few balances because of the
enticing 3.99%. I made my first payment and the next thing I know I'm
getting phone calls from American Express. I assumed the phone calls were
the typical "buy the protection plan" so I did not return the telephone
calls. I then received a letter in the mail from American Express that
there was a problem with my account. Now I'm paying attention because I'm
concerned they have not received my first payment and they want to know were
it is. So I call and they tell me there concerned about all the charges
I've put on my card. I had to inform the mis-informed that I had only
transferred balances and had made no charges. I can't understand this but
this seemed to upset who ever I was talking -- that I hadn't charged
anything and they had erroneous information. So the next thing I hear is
that they want me to provide more i!
nformation to prove that I can afford to pay off the amount transferred. I
told them they had more than enough time to perform "due dilgence" prior to
allowing the balance transfer to go through. And today I received a notice
from them demanding payment in full. This is a reprehensible, predatory
corporation that is completely irresposible and will soon be answering to
the media, The Better Business Bureau, State of Florida, The Federal
Reserve, The Attorney General State of California, Consumer Fraud Division
and last but not least the Banking Commission. I'm as tenacious as they are
fraudulent, persistent as they are corupt, focused as they are
reprehensible. I'll keep you posted on my efforts with local media and the
barely known personalities they pimp for their advertising. I have an
outstanding credit scorce, have had numerous credit cards for over 20 years
and have never experienced anything even close to dealing with this kind of
repugnant scum. |

Complaint:
I've been a loyal customer of AE for over 10 years, I have a Hilton Honors
card which I use on almost everything to get points, I used this card half
the year (2007) but I stopped using it because I had accumulated enough
points (over 100k). I am also an auditor and I spend a lot of my time on
the road and work long hours. I don't have time to check all my bills
online, hence I have never signed up for e-bills. I rely on the paper bills
for me to pay the balance if any. Since I had stopped using this card I had
kind lost track of its transactions due to an error on their part.
Let me explain, one day I received a call at work from AE telling me that I
had not paid my card and that they would take payment over the phone. I
told her to hold on and I checked online, and indeed there was a payment
due. I told the lady I had no idea I was late and she asked me for my
address. I said you have that on file, she said that if "lane, Atlanta GA
30XXX" was right, I said NO you are missing the street number and name so I
gave it to her. While she was updating my file, I checked my statements
online and notice that the copy of my billing statements was missing the
complete address.
This is when I connected the dots, I was late because I had not received the
statements, USPS couldn't deliver those statements. So I told the lady that
someone or something deleted my address and now I had to pay the late fees.
She agreed and credited one late fee and accepted my payment over the phone.
After I hung up I went back online and checked the prior 6 months. Guess
what, my address has been screwed up for the last 6 months and I had never
received a call and I am being charged late fess for 4 months now. I call
back AE to find out what happened and why. The first lady was very rude, I
think she (Olinda?) was working overseas but I didn't ask and don't really
care. Bad service is bad service. She wouldn't listen and wouldn't give me
her full name so I asked to speak with her supervisor.
The supervisor was more professional but he just didn't care. He told me I
was responsible because I should've checked my credit card online and
should've called. I told him that I don't rely on their website to check my
balance that I get a lot of bills, and that I wasn't disputed what I owe but
the late fees. Also, I wanted to know for how long this has been going on
and why AE hadn't caught this error. I could've been a victim of identity
fraud, I guess poor oversight or controls on their part. I didn't hack into
their system and deleted that portion of the mailing address. He couldn't
answer my questions.
He (first name Rob ??) was unapologetic, he said it was my fault for not
notifying them and was a little sarcastic at times. I believe sarcasm is
not professional nor appreciated. He accepted no responsibility, it's all
my fault. In sum I told him that I would pay and close the account, but he
just didn't care. I guess that closing accounts is not his department nor
customers closing accounts affects his performance...
In sum I got the Citicard Visa with Hilton program and no fees, Capital One
has one for Delta with no annual fee. I paid off my balance online and I
will close all my accounts including my wife's (Delta miles). I figured
they will loose a lot more than $38 x 3= $114 because I will never do
business with AE ever!!!
If anyone from AE management is reading this post and cares about not
loosing customers I hope you provide more training to your employees. It
doesn't take long to look up the customer's history or profitability index.
I don't think it's worth to loose profitable customers for such small
amount. In the long run you would've made that money back and a lot more -
bad move. It all adds up and like Home Depot found out a little too late,
poor customer service affects the bottom line... |

Complaint_against: AMX
Complaint:
Watch your credit limit. AMX will change your limit. If you are carring a
balance and make a big payment. AMX may drop your limit without
notification. It happened to me I have had the card for 6 years never missed
a payment and alway paid the entire balance or very close every year. I did
the same this year and they droped my limit from $4500 to $800.00. Which got
my attention. So I immedatly ordered my credit report from Experian they
very same company they use to check this out to see if this was Identity
theft and I verified this is the same information that everyone sees when
they review a credit report. I my score was 769 and I found no discrepancys
or public records. So I called AMX and it took 8 hours and 15 calls no one
would give me any straight anwsers. Heres is what they told me. 1. You have
a high debit to credit ratio or I descrepacy and public record with experian
and that is why we lowered your credit. Which is Bullshit. Keep in mind I
have the same report t!
hey have in front of me, so I asked what is the public record. They said
they don't know and call Experian. I called Experian and they said my credit
is fine and the do not have anything on public record. The CS rep at
experian was very cool she told me that AMX is lowering credit limits on
people who carry a balance , because they are afraid that you won't pay the
balance and screw them out of their money. Amx is making bogus excuses to
the card holders to cover there losses from bad investments junk bonds, and
bad mortgages that defaulted. So they are shoreing up credit on the
cardholdser, so the outstanding debt does not look so bad on there records.
The funny part was I canceled the card paid in full and went to visa and had
them reviewed my credit and also asked them about any issues or public
records. They said your records and credit is almost perfect and they were
using the same report AMX has. AMX lied to me and will lie to you. VISA gave
me a $15,000 limit. AMX is !
having finacials issue of there own and are punishing the good and loyal
cardholders for their Mistakes. Beware if you carry a balance. I will never
have another AMX card as long as I live. |

Complaint: USER BEWARE! My husband has had an Amex card for
over 10 years. He has a large credit line, but pays well and we both
have high FICO scores. Recently he was told he could not use his
card anymore because he cannot buy products from one of the other
companies we own (using a private card would segregate the expenses
and businesses. Amex said we attempted fraud. The funny thing is the
original charge never was completed. We learned about this thirty
eight days later. No one ever called us from American Express. MY
SOLUTION IS TO PAY IT OFF...PERHAPS PAY IT OFF WITH A NEW CREDIT
CARD WHO WOULD APPRECIATE MY BUSINESS AND NOT DICTATE AND MANIPULATE
TO THEIR BENIFIT. |

Complaint_against: American Express
Complaint: I cancelled my all of my American Express cards more than
a year ago. What I realized about this company is that their website
is very liberal when it comes to being approved for new cards. I
applied for and was accepted for the clear card, Hilton Honors, the
blue card, and a couple of others. I applied for credit limit
increases on these cards (using the website) and was approved for
limit increases on almost all these cards. Again, using the website,
I took advantage of the amazing balance transfer rates that were
offered. I transferred several thousand dollars to some of these
cards. I also made use of the card that has the attached high
interest savings account. I transferred $20,000 into that account.
At this point, there wasn’t a problem because I had $20,000 in
savings compared to roughly $7,000 on the cards. (As a side note –
if you’re already an AE member, don’t take advantage of this savings
account. My money was immovable for multiple weeks because they were
having web server problems. Don’t let your money get tied up in this
account unless you’re cool with waiting several weeks to get it out
again.) When I went to transfer the $20,000 in to an outside
brokerage account, I got a letter from American Express that said my
accounts would be cancelled in 30 days because my credit is bad (my
FICO score has stayed in the range of 690 to 710 for the past
several years.) I don’t have the best credit score, but all the
approvals still went through when AE checked with Experian. When I
compared the negative information in the AE letter with my actual
report from Experian, I realized that AE had made my information
more negative in order to justify closing my accounts. Luckily, this
is only their internal credit report and has no bearing on the
actual Experian report. I complained to an AE representative that
their information about my credit was not right. They didn’t care. I
transferred my balances to other cards. Then I cancelled the AE
cards myself (looks better on Experian report that I cancelled.)
American Express is a mess internally. The credit approval division
doesn’t know what the fraud division doesn’t know what the credit
check division is doing. I realized this when they had to alter my
credit standing within their internal records so that the liberal
approval division didn’t keep approving me for new cards, limit
increases, and balance transfers. Also, their fraud division is
hyperactive. Don’t be surprised if you have to call in several times
a month to confirm the purchases you’ve made (they shut down your
card until you validate these purchases.) Some might like this extra
security, but not me. I’ve never had another credit card company
that was so suspicious of normal credit card activity. I realized
that American Express really only wants card holders who have
perfect credit, who have already been with them for many years, and
who don’t carry balances on their cards (even though AE’s more
recent, new cards are meant for carrying balances from month to
month.) I know there’s this kind of prestige connected to owning an
American Express card. But please think twice before applying. Learn
from my experience and don’t waste your time with this company.
