Complaint: Warning to all AOL subscribers about their AOL credit card that
you are constantly beign offered via popups. Their advertised rates are a
scam> I signed up for one 3 years ago. Yes that's a long time but I very
rarely used it. They sent me unsolicited "convenience" checks which very
clearly stated that these checks would give me a 3.99% rate "for the life of
the loan. Turns out the convenience is theirs. First I never got my bill.
That's because if you are late on a payment your default rate per your
credit card agreement goes to 23%. I went on line and made a payment just in
time. This was NOT the first time that I stopped getting statements only
after my balance went over $1000. When I DID receive a statement it came
complete w/ $123.00 in FESS making the stated 3.99% rate actually 38.42% APR
and yes they proudly posted that outrageous interest rate on their card. I
transferred my balance to another card, cancelled their and filed a
complaint with the FTC. BEWAR!E. |

Complaint:
To: AOL Credit Card
From: John XXXXXX
ACCT: XXXXXXXXXXXXXX
COMPLAINT:
To Whom It May Concern:
It came to my attention in April of this year that you guys hiked my
interest rate to 29.49% because of some statistic relating to my income you
seemed to get form the credit bureau. I had just transferred balances to
you, so that was quite a disappointment that you would do such a thing. You
were taking my income statistics back in 1998.
I spoke with Margie Malloy via Jeff Jones in the credit department and
corrected the income error. They informed me that they would correct this
problem all the way back to where the interest began in February.
It has been 6 months and the interest has NOT been corrected. I have
called 3 times and every time I have been assured that it would be corrected
and it HASN'T.
I am filing a complaint against whoever the lazy person is in your credit
department .. Margie Malloy , Jeff Jones or whoever else was responsible
for this failure to take care of this matter.
Also, I was just informed that you would only credit me the interest back
from the time I requested which was April according to the records. I was
informed when I originally called that I would be credited all the way back
to the beginning of the interest hike which was February.
I cannot tell you how upset I am that first of all, the problem isn't
resolved and no one can seem to rush it through even though it is clearly
your error.
I am also letting you know that I will pay this card off, cancel the account
and NEVER do business with you again!
Stephanie Steele at 1-800-XXXXXXXX informed me that you would not credit me
the $500 interest for the first 2 months of the ridiculously exorbitant
rate. The $500 of erroneous interest will cost you a customer and your
reputation as I'll be certain to inform others through the internet blogs of
this rip off scam you have going as I am certain this complaint will
probably not even be read let alone corrected.
Sincerely,
John XXXXX - Previous Platinum Customer |

Complaint_against: AOL - DBL Billing & Trouble Canceling
Complaint: I was with AOL for 2 years and was having them pull a monthly
payment from my debit card. A while back I was unemployed and unable to
continue making payments. AOL was unable to charge my card since the funds
were not in my account. I was unable to get online to speak to them about
the matter since they had terminated my service. You would think since they
had terminated my service and I was unable to use AOL in order to get online
that they would consider that a cancellation. So for 3 months I went without
AOL. A family member had said they would help me out and pay for the monthly
AOL bill of $23.99. When I tried going back onto my old account it stated
that I no longer had AOL service, but it could be restored with a payment of
$24.87 and that would include unlimited use. My family member let me use her
credit card information. I was up and running in a minute. They sure have no
problem with that! Anyway, about 2 weeks later I received an email from them
statin!
g that I was going to be billed $47.80 (bouble payment). I called and
complained, but all they were able to tell me was that they were charging me
for the previous month I had neglected to pay and they were unable to pull
from my original account. I was a bit irate and asked why i should be
charged for service when I had none. How can they backcharge me when they
had terminated me. The Rep said she was sorry and that I wouldn't be double
charged again and that she would give me 2 months free of service and my
next payment would nt be until Aug 22, 2005. The other day I received a call
from my family member who was very angry with me. She said that AOL had
charged her in June for $47.80 (double payment) and the same thing in July.
I called AOL and the rep who was a foreign could barely understand me and
vice versa. He basically said there was nothing they could do and said that
my family member was mistaken and that AOL was never able to collect the
original charge of $47.80 !
from her bank account, yet she has stae\tement that show otherwise. So he
basically accused us of lying. I told him I wanted to cancel my account with
aOL and he said that who ever was the account holder needed to close the
account. My family member called AOL and a rep told her that I was the one
who needed to close the account. Nothing like the run around! Finally we
both placed another call to AOL and we were able to finally get them to
agree to close the account and we got a cancellation confirmation # from
them. We shall see if it truly does get cancelled and she doesn't get
charged next month. My family member called them yesterday to discuss the
double charges and they did a three way with her bank rep so she could
verify that funds had been pulled from her account and paid to AOL. They in
turn said that they double charged her because I owed them money from 3
months I had not paid them for my service eventhough they had terminated me.
So they cancel my service, yet s!
till want me to pay for it and also take it from another person's account
who had not authorized that. AOL has become one of the worst ISP's. I would
never again in my life suggest someone else getting an account with AOL.

Complaint: I signed up for AOL under their promotion of trying it for 90
days and if not satisfied, I'd receive a full refund. I signed up in the
middle of May. Lost my job the first week of June and cancelled at the end
of June, as I was moving out of the state. I contacted them the first of
July and they said I'd receive a credit of $77. Month after month I kept
getting excuses as to why I hadn't received the credit. I contacted my bank
and have to write them and send documentation to attempt to reverse the
charges. The last time I spoke to anyone, they said that I had gone beyond
the 90 days before cancelling. I told them that it was impossible because I
had cancelled in June and gotten a confirmation number. Then they said that
it would have to be investigated. I'll be taking further action on this
one, too. |
